Community Fundraising Volunteer Roles
We are currently seeking to recruit two to three more volunteer Trustees.
Citizens Advice Cornwall is an independent charity and a member of the national Citizens Advice service. We offer free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to individuals across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly on issues such as debt, welfare benefits, employment, housing, and consumer problems. We also research and campaign on a range of social and consumer issues. Our services are delivered by a team of highly-skilled and motivated volunteers and paid staff. As an organisation, we value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination wherever we find it.
The successful candidates will join our Trustee Board, which provides strategic direction and oversight to the charity. We’re looking for ambitious and forward-thinking people to help us deliver on our dual mission of advice and advocacy.
This position would suit someone taking their first steps to develop wider board level experience, and for those who might be new to governance. We welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds, so no matter what experience you have, we will provide full induction, onboarding and regular training for your Trustee role.
At Citizens Advice Cornwall, we embrace and value diversity and we feel passionately that our Board should be representative of the diverse communities we serve. We’re looking for people who understand the reasons why people turn to us for help and support, helping us to continually evolve our work with this in mind. We therefore particularly welcome applications from those who may have lived experience of the issues our clients face, and we encourage people from all ages, communities and backgrounds to join us.
We’re also looking for people who have strategic-level experience in one or more areas where we’re building our capability:
· Fundraising and Marketing,
· Using data and insight to campaign for policy and practice change,
· Digital and Cyber Security Expertise
This is an exciting time for our organisation, providing opportunity to bring in fresh perspectives and skills to our Board. We’ll also be looking to recruit a new Chair of the Board later in 2025, and so this could be an opportunity to build up knowledge and experience of our service, if you are interested in this role.
Interviews will be held in late October (provisionally 24th/25th October 2024).
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Are you passionate about your community? Do you want to unlock the potential of local people and create opportunities for them?
By joining a WEA Local Advisory Panel, you could play a critical role in helping the largest adult education charity in the UK understand local need and do just that.
Many think technical skills and higher education are the solution to their community’s challenges. But approachable, friendly education in core employability and community engagement skills could just unlock the confidence, team-working, talent and interest of local adults and are just as important.
The WEA’s mission is to bring adult education in reach of everyone who needs it, fighting inequality and promoting social justice.
We believe in creating opportunities. You could help us understand and respond to the areas of greatest need local to you.
What is in it for you?
-
Influence and impact: Your ideas and recommendations will directly shape our strategies and initiatives and unlock the potential of local people, service-users, future and current employees. You can help us do our life-changing work even better!
-
Networking: Connect and collaborate with like-minded experts, forming valuable relationships that can open doors to new opportunities.
-
Professional growth: Develop your knowledge of the education sector and fine tune your ability to advise, negotiate, collaborate with and consult multiple stakeholders.
-
Recognition: Your valuable contribution will be acknowledged and celebrated. You will also receive access to the WEA’s award-winning lecture series, with a 12-month membership of the WEA.
What we are looking for:
-
Passionate individuals: We seek individuals who are deeply passionate about the success of their local community or business and the importance of education to achieve this.
-
Diverse perspectives: We believe that the power of collective wisdom lies in embracing diversity. We welcome individuals from various industries, backgrounds, and cultures.
-
Expertise: We particularly value prior experience of WEA learning, but this is not essential. Experience in the following would be hugely valuable too: Work in the education, voluntary or public sector, business or commercial, fundraising or marketing, finance or law, HR or learning & development.
-
Collaborative Spirit: We are keen to recruit those able to work effectively within a team, listen actively, and constructively contribute to discussions.
-
Active advocacy: We are looking for people with an interest in forging meaningful and productive connections with community organisations, employers and local leaders to advance the WEA’s mission to bring education in reach.
Join one of our Local Advisory Panels as a volunteer and shape the future of adult education near you. Together, we will create a better tomorrow for the communities we serve.

Amplify Barawak’s mission and enhance our public presence through strategic marketing and powerful advocacy. As the Marketing Outreach and Advocacy Vertical Lead, you’ll craft compelling narratives that engage and mobilize our community.
Understanding the Verticals at Barawak
Imagine Barawak as a living, thriving tree. Our verticals are like the main branches—each one strong and important, reaching out in its own direction but all connected to the same trunk, our community's mission. These four powerhouse teams each have a special job:
• The Fundraising and Financial Management vertical covers fundraising and money matters: This team is all about finding resources—like getting donations and grants—to keep our programmes strong and healthy. They will spend their time writing fantastic letters, sponsorship proposals and funding requests on behalf of Barawak as a whole, but also (supporting programme leads) to specific organisations for Barawak service lines.
• The Partnership Development and Collaboration vertical covers building bridges: They're the connectors, making friends with other groups, businesses, and everyone who can help us grow.
• The Volunteer Engagement vertical covers welcoming our helpers: This bunch is in charge of gathering our most valuable resource—people like you who want to volunteer and make a difference.
• The Marketing Outreach and Advocacy vertical covers spreading the word: They tell our story far and wide, making sure everyone knows what we're up to and how they can join in.
Each vertical team works in two distinct ways: the first way is for Barawak as a whole, and the second way is in support of each Barawak service, feeding our programmes, like roots bringing water and nutrients to the branches. Whether it's Poverty Relief, Education, Employment Support, Community Engagement or Sports and Wellness, these verticals give the support each programme needs to blossom and bear fruit. Working together, they make sure we're all pushing in the same direction—towards a future where our community stands tall and proud.
Introduction to the Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy vertical Lead role:

This strategic role involves developing and implementing marketing and outreach initiatives to amplify Barawak's mission and to advocate for the Afro-Hebrew community. • Build relationships with media outlets and influencers to enhance Barawak’s visibility and impact.
3. Support to Trustees:
• Provide the Board of Trustees with strategic marketing insights and advocacy support, enabling informed decision-making.
• Ensure trustees are kept informed of marketing and advocacy efforts and outcomes, aligning with Barawak’s governance and strategic plans.
4. Programme-Specific Outreach:
• Tailor marketing and advocacy efforts to support the unique goals of each Barawak programme, from Poverty Relief to Sports and Wellness.
• Collaborate with programme leads to highlight success stories, key initiatives, and opportunities for community involvement.
5. Brand Management:
• Oversee Barawak’s brand identity and messaging across all platforms, ensuring consistency and alignment with organizational values.
• Develop marketing materials and campaigns that resonate with the community and stakeholders.
6. Performance Analysis:
• Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing and advocacy initiatives, using data-driven insights to refine strategies.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Experience in marketing, public relations, or advocacy within the nonprofit sector.
• Strong creative and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop compelling narratives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency across various media platforms.
• A collaborative spirit, adept at working with diverse teams and community groups.
In the role of Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy Lead, you will be the storyteller and voice of Barawak, shaping the way the world sees and understands our mission and the community we serve.
