We’re looking for an IT professional to join our Board and provide thought-leadership on our digital and IT strategy, including guiding us through Cyber Essentials accreditation. If you can help us use technology to improve our local advice service, we would love to hear from you.
As our digital and IT expert, you will work alongside the Chair, Chief Executive and the external IT support company we use to:
- Ensure our IT operating systems and equipment are fit for purpose
- Guide the charity through the work needed to obtain Cyber Essentials accreditation

- Translate the risks and opportunities of IT for other trustees

We need someone who either lives, works or studies in Elmbridge (or the surrounding area) and who has:
- Demonstrable experience of delivering IT and business change management
- Experience of IT strategy planning and execution
- A good understanding of cyber security including obtaining Cyber Security Accreditation
- A good understanding of Microsoft 365 multi-factor authentication
- Experience of business continuity and disaster recover planning
- A good understanding of risk management

Time commitment
Our trustees are expected to attend six board meetings each year. These normally take place on a Monday evening, at our office in Esher. Reading preparation for each board meeting will take around one-two hours. All Citizens Advice trustees are required to complete a small number of e-learning courses each year.
In addition, as the IT lead, you will need to have time to participate in various IT discussions with our management team and with the IT support company we use. This work may average around 1-2 hours a week.

About the role
We are looking for a Trustee with recent and relevant finance expertise to join our Board of Trustees.
Trustees of Save the Children UK (SCUK) play a unique role in delivery of our mission. They are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining targets, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Executives.
As a Trustee, you'll be required to attend all Board meetings (four Board meetings and one or more Board calls per year). You may also be asked to participate in Board strategy days, telephone conferences, or travel on behalf of SCUK.
As a Trustee of SCUK, you will:
- Act in SCUK's best interests, ensuring the charity complies with its governance responsibilities, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation or regulations, and ensure the effective management of resources and of risk.
- Provide support and constructive challenge to the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team to ensure the delivery of SCUK's mission and implementation of its strategic plan.
- Bring personal experience and professional expertise to the Board; contribute to key strategic debates within the organisation and to specific departmental and cross-team initiatives; and help to strengthen Board governance.
- Help ensure that SCUK continues to maintain the highest safeguarding standards in line with legislation, statutory guidance and best practice, and organisation policy and procedure.
- Ensure that safeguarding remains embedded in the culture of SCUK encouraging a safer environment for those we serve, our staff and volunteers.
- Attend quarterly Board meetings at SCUK's Head Office in Farringdon, London as well as any ad hoc Board meetings that arise.

As a Trustee with finance expertise, you will:
- Become a Member of the Finance Committee, which provides oversight of SCUK's financial resources, fundraising and marketing, and attend quarterly meetings.
- Become a member of the Investment & Pensions Committee (IPC), a sub-committee of the Finance Committee, which provides oversight of the investment of SCUK's reserves and the pension arrangements for staff and attend quarterly meetings.
About you
We are seeking to recruit a Trustee who:
- Is engaged with, and excited by, SCUK's vision, mission and values.
- Will work to guarantee the highest standards of integrity and governance and help ensure statutory requirements are met.
- Has Board-level or equivalent experience of financial management of large and complex organisations.
- Has knowledge of charity finance, accounting and governance.
- Understands the financial risks facing major international development charities, and the financial strategies available to address them.
- Will ensure that key financial issues are clearly communicated to and understood by the Board.
- Is able and willing to devote the necessary time to the role. BRANCH TRUSTEE – INCOME GENERATION

Overview of the Branch Trustee opportunity
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with a background in income generation or fundraising, who could devote their time to volunteer as a trustee for our Branch and support us in maximising the revenue brought into the Branch to support our animal centre and welfare work.
Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a bi-monthly committee meeting lasting around 2 to 3 hours (virtual meetings are an option). However, the commitment may vary depending on your availability, and if you decide to take on additional duties.
Trustee do not need to live within the branch boundaries but occasional travel to Branch sites may be required from time to time.

About the RSPCA Preston & District Branch
Over 80% of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local Branches which are run by staff and volunteers, supported by the RSPCA National Society.
Preston & District Branch has been affiliated with the National RSPCA for 150 years!
A separately registered charity looking after animals in the local area and engaging with the local community.
Our mission is to seek out safe homes for abandoned, neglected or abused animals who are nursed back to health, rehabilitated and found forever loving homes.
Preston & District Branch is part of a network of 140 branches, and 1 of only 8 in the North of England with an animal centre.
The rehoming centre is within the Preston area (close to JCN 31 of the M6).
RSPCA Preston & District Branch is a well established Branch with approximately 20 members of staff and 75 volunteers across 4 locations and raises all its funds locally through supporters and other income streams.
To continue helping animals in need the Branch also operates 3 charity shops in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham (within our specified branch area) which bring in a regular income to keep our animal centre open.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Income Generation
- Explore ways to generate income for the Branch and work closely with the Branch Manager to put these ideas into action.
- You would aim to identify potential sources of funding which could be explored so we can continue this important work.
- You would organise and coordinate events that bring together those also determined to improve the welfare of animals to raise the funds we need to come to the aid of animals who are in need. Work with the trustees to produce a fundraising plan and budget.
- Identify fundraising roles and help recruit volunteers to fill them.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
Ideally you would have some level of knowledge in the following areas- finance, legal, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation. Staff and Volunteers offer regular support, including providing emotional and practical help to families in the families’ own homes and connecting families with specialist services within the community.
We are looking to recruit a new Chair of Trustees and additional Trustees; who will increase the range of skills and experience on the Board. This is essential for us to make the best decisions for HSEEB and our families. For the Chair role, you will need leadership skills and a good understanding of governance. For the Trustee roles, there is no requirement for you to have been a trustee before, however, you do need to be passionate about improving the lives of children and the families we support.
You will be good at working with others, ready to speak up and ask questions, be thoughtful and open to learning and able to stand back to see the bigger picture. You must take the responsibilities of a Trustee seriously.

Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association seeks new Trustees.
About the organisation
Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association is looking for new Trustees for our charity and is keen to hear from you if you have the skills and experience that would help support our work.
We are a small organisation staffed entirely by volunteers and we maintain & run an historic canal narrowboat on the Regent’s Canal for the benefit of the community. Day-to-day running of the Association is organised through a volunteers committee, who meet monthly. We are affiliated to the National Community Boat Association and all our skippers have attained the Certificate of Community Boat Management.
We take groups of up to 12 people on canal trips lasting from a few hours to all day or several days at a time. Private groups such as celebration trips, vacation groups, or team building events subsidise community trips for the organisation such as: mental health, children’s charities, or the elderly. These can sometimes be free if groups with appropriate aims (groups that benefit people in need without discrimination) lack access to other funding.
Who we’re looking for
Our Trustees do not need any special knowledge of canals or boating however an interest in these areas would be helpful and an understanding of the workings of small organisations, run by volunteers would be an advantage. Previous experience as a Trustee would be useful but is not a prerequisite, as full support and training in the duties and responsibilities of Trustees will be given.

The Gardens Trust is the only UK national charity dedicated to conserving historic parks and gardens for everyone to enjoy today and in future.
