Rising Capacities for Children Africa (RICCA)
Rising Capacities for Children Africa (RICCA) tackles child poverty in rural Kenya, especially in Kirinyaga County, by creating inclusive, child-friendly learning environments. Through the Ricca Afterschool Center, children aged 6–17 access personalized support, mentorship, and engaging programs in arts, sports, agriculture, and digital literacy. These activities foster academic success, creativity, social skills, and life competencies while making learning fun and accessible. RICCA also works with schools to improve teacher quality, infrastructure, and resources, and engages parents in the process. By bridging rural–urban gaps and promoting intercultural dialogue, RICCA empowers communities, protects children’s rights, and breaks cycles of poverty through education.
Financial Accountant
Start Period: January (Immediate / Q1)
Role Overview
This role will support the founder to design and operationalize Excel and/or QuickBooks accounting system in line with our Finance Policy. The accountant will support RICCA’s financial setup and accountability processes by:
· Preparing monthly payslips and reconciling timesheets · Processing staff and facilitator payments
· Supporting procurement and ensuring compliance with donor and internal procedures
· Preparing monthly reconciliations and maintaining proper financial documentation
· Progressively establishing RICCA’s foundational accounting system, including Excel ,QuickBooks, petty cash management and funder-preferred reporting layouts
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on financial SOPs, internal controls, and compliance with donor and statutory requirements
- Support the development of payment vouchers, approval workflows, and cheque/cash management systems
- Contribute to the design of a payroll and part time/volunteer staff payments system
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting based on project budgets already developed
- Train and guide RICCA leadership on the use of the accounting and finance systems
- Work collaboratively with the Board Treasurer and participate in Board discussions where needed.
Skills and Experience
- A portfolio of similar assignment done preferably within Non Profit sector needed.
- Proven experience setting up finance or accounting systems , preferably in startup NGOs or donor-funded projects
- Familiarity with accounting software such as Excel or QuickBooks
- Strong interpersonal skills: collaborative, approachable, and able to explain finance concepts clearly to non-finance teams

4-6 hours per week
