ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of Volunteering Manager will work to review and expand Concordia’s Volunteering programmes to ensure a variety of attractive opportunities both in the UK and abroad. They will ensure effective management and administration of all opportunities, initiate new partnerships with UK charities and hosts, and represent Concordia at international events and network meetings.
This role requires an individual with highly effective organisational and administrative skills, as well a strong aptitude to identify and act on new opportunities.
We are looking for a creative individual who possesses high standards, and a commitment to quality volunteering placements. The right candidate will communicate with passion and enthusiasm and have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
ROLE OBJECTIVES
- To maintain, review and develop current Concordia volunteering programmes and partnerships
- To actively research & seek out new partnerships for hosting volunteers coming to the UK and UK volunteers travelling overseas
- To ensure the creative promotion of inclusive and appealing volunteering opportunities to a wide audience
- Responsible for the recruitment, training and management of voluntary coordinators for delivery at our UK and overseas volunteering projects.
- To establish effective and proportionate user-led processes to ensure the smooth administration and induction of new volunteers
- To ensure effective monitoring and evaluation systems are in place and to ensure regular summary reports of impact and statistics are produced.
- To provide clear information, support and advice for all volunteers travelling abroad/coming to the UK
- To develop and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders, locally and internationally
- To coordinate delivery carefully and within budget
- To work with the senior team to ensure financial sustainability of programmes and responsiveness to new project and funding opportunities
- To deliver or commission volunteer training as required
- To input and manage personal and sensitive data, keeping all individual records up to date
- To work according to all Concordia’s policies, including data protection, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion and safeguarding
- To be available to work evenings, weekends and residentials where necessary

Essential experience:
- Highly organised professional with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.

Essential technical competencies
- An understanding of the data protection requirements in respect of volunteers
- Excellent IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience of web-based platforms for recruiting volunteers and working with CRM databases
- Good knowledge of social media platforms and how they can be used to engage with stakeholders, both existing and potential

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Area Volunteer Manager (Area Branch Development Manager) to join our field operations team. You will join us working 21 hours per week (including some evening and weekends) on a permanent basis and in return you will receive a competitive salary of up to £24,817.80 per annum (pro rata of £41.363), plus car allowance and excellent benefits.
The role will be home-based and the successful candidate must be based in (or willing to relocate to) easy reach of the Northumberland, County Durham & Teesside areas and travel as necessary in the East Yorkshire area region. Our branch network is made up of groups of volunteers, led by a Branch Team Leader and overseen by a branch committee. Usually volunteering from their own homes, our branch volunteers foster cats until they are ready to re-home, raise funds to directly help the cats in their care, spread vital cat welfare messages across to members of the public, carry out trap-neuter-return activity, and much more!
Responsibilities of our Area Branch Development Manager:
As Area Volunteer Manager (Area Branch Development Manager) you will be accountable for the development, growth and local governance of branches within a designated area. Providing a solution-driven approach with the aim of helping more cats through the effective engagement of local volunteers. You will develop and deliver an area plan that captures the importance of volunteer engagement, recruitment, support, enabling and succession planning to ultimately achieve branch growth and sustainability. You will work collaboratively with other CP regional teams where appropriate, identifying where there are opportunities to achieve more by working together.
What we’re looking for in our Area Branch Development Manager:
- Proven experience of leading and managing volunteers
- Proven management experience including drafting operational plans
- Expereince of planning and implementing new processes and systems across a multi-site organisation
- Proficient IT skills, including all aspects of Microsoft Office relevant packages and knowledge of database management
- Personal and professional manner and credibility that generate trust and confidence in others
- Knowledge or interest of the animal welfare sector
- Hold current full clean driving licence

Purpose of the job
Your role is to develop and deliver all aspects of the Evidence Programme – from supervision of the Evidence Team to development and funding of projects and expanding the scope of the Evidence Program in line with Thames21’s 5-year plan.
Projects are centred on all forms of evidence – from technical and specialist (real time probes and development of models) to citizen science (biological, chemical and geomorphological data) – to inform and drive catchment decision making, including installation of nature-based treatment systems to mitigate pollution. Projects vary from local and national scale to international collaborations. Work is based in London, the Thames Basin and occasionally more widely in the UK and internationally.
Additional requirements may include supporting other Thames21 projects and funding applications, as the need arises.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will oversee and manage delivery of diverse Evidence Team projects. You will also develop your team’s scope, strategy and action plan in order to grow the team to deliver 5-year plan targets work closely with expert (e.g. statutory bodies, authorities, NGOs and academics) and non-expert (e.g. community groups and volunteers) stakeholders to develop, fund and deliver projects within the Evidence Programme and oversee their management. You will also work closely with the Assistant Head of Improving Rivers and other members of the Thames21 team to develop funding applications and steer the direction of the Evidence Programme.
Tasks will include:
• Development and delivery of projects through the Evidence Programme on the themes of water quality, quantity, identification of suitable nature-based treatment solutions and their functioning after installation, landscape recovery and climate resilience.
• Managing project and programme budgets
• Management and Development of the Evidence Team – deadlines, appraisals, personal development, recruitment etc
• Working with specialist equipment (sondes, models and software both commercially available and in the research phase), lab samples and citizen science techniques and methods to generate evidence around issues and solutions.
• Working with the Assistant Head of Improving Rivers, other Thames21 teams and external partners to expand and develop the Evidence Programme in line with the 5-year plan through funding applications and networking.
• Work outside in a riverside environment in a variety of weathers – alone, with team members, volunteers and professionals.
