Following the decisions of the 2023 Conference, the Methodist Church seeks to appoint additional members for its Nominations Committee.
The purpose, role and remit of the Nominations Committee are set out in the report on Oversight and Trusteeship to the 2023 Conference. The Committee exists to ensure that the nominations which are made to the Conference or the Methodist Council (from 2024, the Connexional Council) for appointment to the Connexional Council, the Missions Committee, the Ministries Committee, the Resourcing Committee and any other bodies the Conference or Council refers to it are brought as a result of processes which conform to the requirements for the body concerned and in accordance with the church’s principles for Justice, Dignity and Solidarity.
Members of the Committee are appointed annually by the Conference and would usually serve for a period of four years.
The Nomination Committee has four main responsibilities:
- To scrutinise and to sign off the (volunteer) role descriptors for a member of the Connexional Council or one of the committees in order that a seat could be advertised.
- To agree that the process of recruitment for a particular role has been followed correctly and in line with HR recruitment policies and the JDS strategy.
- To work with the chairs of the bodies concerned on a periodic review of those appointed to such bodies to ensure that the committees continue to function appropriately. The Nomination Committee will also advise the Connexional Council on matters concerned with training of those appointed to such bodies.
- To bring nominations with reasoned statements to the Conference or Connexional Council as required in each case.
Expectations
- Attendance at monthly meetings. The committee meets online and usually for no longer than an hour each month
- Willingness able to read and comment on draft paperwork for recruitment processes.
- Willingness to respond promptly to e-mail communications to sign off paperwork between meetings as necessary.
- Willingness to share particular expertise and experience in the fields of recruiting, discernment and EDI.
- Willingness to serve on interview panels or participate in other ways in a discernment process.
The Committee requires a range of experience and expertise, including the knowledge of HR, recruitment and discernment processes; experience of serving on connexional committees in the Methodist Church; understanding of protected characteristics and the diverse gifts that potential candidates for roles might offer.

Key Responsibilities:
1. 2. Secretariat Functions: Act as the primary point of contact for trustees and advisors, managing communications, preparing meeting agendas, and ensuring the accurate recording of actions and decisions. 3. Performance Reporting: Lead the development and implementation of a robust performance reporting framework. Hope Against Suicide is a non-profit organisation committed to providing crucial listening, signposting, and advocacy support to anyone grappling with mental health issues. We aim to be a lifeline for those at risk of taking devastating actions. Our three key aims are to get the community talking again, improve mental health, and prevent suicide. We are launching a new Listening Hub in Bristol’s busy shopping centre. This walk-in service will support individuals with mental health issues, their families, and local workers. It complements our Mental Health Responders, enhancing outreach and community support. To run this program, we are looking for a new team of dedicated volunteers that want to support the cause of suicide prevention and raising mental health awareness.
Key Responsibilities
In a Listening Hub setting, the Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer plays a crucial role in providing compassionate and professional support to individuals seeking assistance with mental health challenges. During your shifts, your tasks will be a combination of the following:
- Providing support to those facing mental health challenges
- Allowing any visitors to share their personal experiences and feel supported / listened to
- Lead conversations with an emphasis on active listening and empathy
- Supporting an open, non-judgmental space open to all
- Optional: Facilitating regular community sessions that provide a relaxed and open space for meeting new people and sharing personal experiences. These can be based on any activity (e.g. crafts, sports).
- You will be expected to donate around 3 hours of your time either per week or fortnightly and to attend a Mental Health First Aid and Suicide First Aid training. Your shifts will be arranged to fit around your other commitments.

Are you a proactive fundraiser and looking to support a small charity? We're looking for 2 energetic and enthusiastic fundraiser volunteers to increase the fundraising opportunities for the charity as well as developing corporate partnerships, legacy giving, individual giving and major donors. This role may also include:
- Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events
- Project manage fundraising events, from inception all the way through to evaluation
- Recruit and promote supporters and volunteers for challenge and national events.
- Assisting with researching and approaching corporate entities for event sponsorships, partnerships, Charity of the Year partnerships, and donations from corporate foundations
- Assisting with writing and delivering grant proposals for funding to trusts, foundations and other institutes
- Writing emails and speaking with potential partners about the work of Burning Nights CRPS Support with the aim of securing funds for the organisation
- Helping to maintain the fundraising database, ensuring accuracy and consistency of all records;
- Development in fundraising opportunities
- Keeping in contact with current & past donors and assisting in finding new donors
- Communicating with past fundraisers and encourage them to consider fundraising in the future
- Assist in marketing our events
- Development / Improvement of fundraising support (e.g fundraising packs and materials)
- Create marketing posts for social media & email marketing
Key & Desirable Skills:
- Fully computer literate and fully able with the main Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint as well as the internet and email
- Knowledge of using CRM systems or ability to learn
- Outgoing, friendly and proactive character
- Good initiative and ability to work with little direct supervision but will ask when help is needed
- Be comfortable volunteering within a small team or by yourself
- Good communication skills - Ability to communicate effectively at a number of different levels
- Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, written correspondence and in person
- Experience of writing funding proposals and working in fundraising would be an advantage
- Strong organisational skills
- Knowledge of corporate fundraising techniques including Charity of the Year, sponsorship, donations, marketing would be an advantage
- An ability to present and engage potential partners/sponsors in a compelling way
- Maintaining strict confidentiality
Practical Considerations:
- Age over 18 only
- Expenses will be given in line with the charity’s expenses policy
- It is an indoor role at one site – your home, but occasionally meetings are held in other offices and in the office of the charity or online
- This role is suitable for people wanting to learn new skills as well as improve previously learnt skills

About the Charity: Burning Nights CRPS Support is a UK wide charity that works to improve life for those living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), their families, loved ones, carers and friends. As a charity we raise awareness about the condition amongst the public, health and legal professionals by providing CRPS awareness sessions so that patients can be diagnosed quicker to enable treatment to start more rapidly.

You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to create a world without barriers. This face to face opportunity will see you providing information about RNIB services and activities to help people with sight loss live the lives they want, enabling them to hear about the support that is available, and how they can help others. What you’ll be doing • Creating a welcoming and interesting display stand. • Speaking directly to people affected by sight loss. • Being a friendly face of RNIB locally - engaging with a diverse range of people. • Providing information and demonstrations of basic independent living aids for the general public and professionals.
