Main Purpose of the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team at Camden Carers and make a difference to the lives of carers and families in Camden. We are looking for a hardworking, innovative, enthusiastic and flexible team member who is able to adapt to the ever changing and challenging times we find ourselves currently in.​

As a part of the Support & Wellbeing Team, you will be required to identify Young Adult Carers aged 18-30 years from all communities in the London Borough of Camden, who care for a family member, partner or friend with a disability or long-term illness. You will provide relevant and appropriate support, information and advocacy to Young Adult Carers. You will lead on developing and maintaining effective partnerships with other statutory and voluntary services as well as developing a service to support Young Adult Carers who are also NEET (not in education, employment or training).

Carers Trust estimate that there are at least 600,000 Young Adult Carers in the UK.​

A consultation carried out in 2023 showed that over 75% of Young Adult Carers in Camden have poor emotional/mental health and poor physical health. The study also highlighted that high numbers of Young Adult Carers require support with finances, employment, education and managing personal relationships.​

About the role

As the Operations Officer you will provide dedicated support to the Start Funds' portfolio, currently comprising the global Start Fund, Start Fund Bangladesh, Start Fund Nepal and the Ukraine locally-led pooled fund. The role will contribute to ensuring that Start Funds' awards are efficiently and effectively managed, provide support to the financial management of the Start Fund programmes, implement the fund's approach to and management of risk and compliance, and assist with procurement.

In this role, you will: 

Operational and programme management:

• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in maintaining effective award management processes, in close coordination with SCUK as Grant Custodian to the Start Network
• Support in ensuring that Start Funds' programmes are fully compliant with grants and contracts and managed in-line with relevant SCUK and Start Network policies and practices
• In coordination with the Start Network Assurance team, provide inputs for the implementation of the Start Funds' approach to and management of risk and compliance
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in the management of audits
• Administer serious incident reports (specifically those that are fraud-related) concerning Start Funds
• Play a supporting role in the financial management of the Start Fund programmes, liaising closely with budget holders, the Finance Business Partner and the Start Network finance team
• With support from the Start Funds Operations Advisor, provide operational advice to colleagues in relation to day-to-day tasks as well as when challenges arise
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor and relevant colleagues in managing procurement processes, ensuring that relevant policies are upheld. Support with contract management

About you

We are seeking an operational and people focussed Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Executive Team. You will drive development of all financial and operational management, processes and reporting, overseeing the organisation’s day-to-day operations including the leadership of Finance, People, Governance, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications and Digital.

The successful candidate will have held broad finance and operations positions, with a track record of interacting at Board level and presenting clear financial and management information. Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility

Operational Leadership and Governance

• Overall accountability for the operations of the foundation
• Oversee and optimise internal processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity
• Evaluate and improve overall performance by gathering, analysing and interpreting data and metrics
• Oversee robust risk management processes and protocols proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks

Financial Management

• Oversee the development and monitoring of the financial strategy for the organisation, providing recommendations, information and guidance to the Trustees and Executive team to inform decision making
• Maintain and review polices and processes to ensure good financial controls are in place that meet both legal and tax requirements. This includes maintaining appropriate records and controls over restricted funds to ensure that these are used and reported appropriately
• Support the Finance Manager and Executive team in setting FNF’s annual budget, with robust analysis and justification of intended expenditure, financial forecasts, cashflow etc. securing active engagement and ownership from all internal budget holders
• Oversee the financial reports required to review progress against plans and forecasts throughout the year and ensuring these are disseminated and understood across the organisation
• Accountable for regular financial updates to Trustees including the Finance Investment Committee (FIC) and Board meetings along with the preparation of the financial aspects of the annual report and accounts
• Oversee the management and development of VAT reporting for FNF and trading subsidiary
• Oversee the financial aspect of FNF Global delivery to ensure compliance with HMRC

Systems and controls

• Lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of effective procurement systems and procedures, ensuring that FNF achieves best value and drives efficiencies through our external contracts
• Lead on the annual audit in accordance with current practice and the Charity Commissions Standard of Recommended Practice (SORP), liaising and managing the relationship with the auditors
• Oversee the operation of the payroll process and related HMRC contract ensuring that payments are made in an accurate and timely way
• Work with the Finance Committee to manage the investments for FNF, overseeing regular reviews of the investment policy and portfolio, liaising with external partners as necessary

Fundraising, Events, Marketing and Communications

• Provide leadership around income generation, making sure that this is located within the strategic framework and day to day thinking of the Foundation
• Provide leadership and direction for Marketing and Communications, ensuring that overall plans are in support of our strategic objectives
• Ensure all income generation activities from within this team are fully integrated across the Foundation, recognising the importance of inter departmental relationships

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: Young Carers and Young Adult Carers Team Leader

Job aim: Our carers, aged between 5 and 25, provide support to a parent, sibling or other family member due to disability, a long-term illness, poor mental health and/or addiction. You will lead and provide day to day operational management to the Young Carers (YC) and Young Adult Carers (YAC) team so that they can effectively provide support to these young people, whilst also raising awareness of Carers Bucks services across Buckinghamshire.

Location: Hybrid. A minimum of 2 days a week from home with the other days working flexibly from home or in the community, as agreed by your line manager, with attendance at our Aylesbury office as and when required.

Annual Leave: 25 days annual leave (which increase with long service) + bank holidays.

Main Responsibilities:

These include, but are not limited to:

• Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and attend regular training and refesher courses.

• Day to day management of the YC/YAC team- establishing and maintaining a positive and effective working environment and dealing promptly with any interpersonal issues

• Day to day operational responsibility for the effective running of the YC/YAC services.

• Ensure that all new referrals, and all queries from current registered YC/YAC, are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner, and to the highest possible standard.

• Carry a caseload, both individually and alongside your team.

• Ensure that staff have the support and resources they need to run targeted sessions, clubs and activities which effectively meet the needs of YC/YAC.

• Ensure there are enough staff to cover the service at all times and assist with recruitment when required.

• Ensure that staff work in an integrated way with their colleagues in the Adult Carer Team, and at our sister charity Carers MK, in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for carers of all ages across the region.

• Ensure that all data relating to carers is stored correctly using our internal database, Charity Log.

• Create and review reports using Charity Log, for the purposes of monitoring and to help identify gaps in the service.

• Work with the Service Manager to develop services and maintain an in-depth understanding of the needs of the YC/YAC who are accessing our services.

• Actively promote inclusive practice.

• Lead and facilitate team meetings.

• Provide staff with feedback regarding their individual performance via quarterly supervision sessions and annual performance reviews.

• Provide staff with information relating to the organisation’s performance against operational targets during your regular team meetings.

• Work with the team to support and supervise volunteers recruited on behalf of the YC and YAC service.

• Ensure the team have had all the training they require to perform their duties and liaise with the Service Manager to source external training (or deliver internal training) where appropriate.

The purpose of the post is to work with a wide range of partners and volunteers to build active, more connected and resilient communities within the city of Salford. This includes recruiting, training and supporting volunteers and VCSE organisations to engage in civil contingencies and humanitarian responses within the city, and more broadly supporting the development of our volunteering work across multiple services.

The Community Fundraising Assistant is fundamental administrative role that supports the Community Fundraising Team in the successful engagement of new and existing supporters. The role consists of a variety of key tasks including; arranging KSS attendance at community events, overseeing the placement and emptying of collection boxes and assisting the Community Fundraisers with the booking of talks to community organisations, groups and schools across our region. Providing excellent customer service and support is essential, with previous charity fundraising experience desirable.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide day-to-day management of KSS activities relating to talks and presentations as well as event attendance within the local community, acting as a key internal and external point of contact.
- Carry out administration regarding talks, presentations, events and collections attended by the charity, including creating and updating relevant records on the charity database.
- Contribute to the delivery of the Community Teams objectives, with the oversight of key office-based volunteer activity in order to support on projects and weekly administrative tasks.
- Act as a key liaison within the Community Team, ensuring that Community Fundraisers and Community Fundraising Manager are supported as required.
- Explore and propose opportunities for KSS to raise awareness and grow its brand awareness and income, in line with KSS strategy.
- Source volunteers to attend talks, community events and store collections, guiding new volunteers through the process of becoming a speaker for KSS by organising shadowing and ensuring they have all the necessary information and equipment. Liaise with groups and volunteers to ensure that talks and cheque presentations go ahead smoothly.
- Provide excellent stewardship and customer service by responding to all communications in a timely and professional manner, ensuring that the system is updated without delay and that relevant stakeholders are informed as required.
- Understand and keep up to date on all relevant fundraising regulations and best practice guidelines – as set out by KSS’s internal processes, policies and procedures and ensure that these are adhered to in all practices.
- Work closely with colleagues in Marketing and Communications to ensure consistency of the charity’s brand and message within community fundraising activities.
- Oversee the management of our static collection boxes, working alongside our volunteer collection box agents, to ensure this income revenue is maintained and developed.

The Hepatitis C Trust has developed projects nationally whereby peers use their lived experience of injecting drug use and hepatitis C, to provide education and training to service users and staff in drug and alcohol, hostel and homeless services, increasing hepatitis C awareness, access to testing and referral to treatment, for people living with hepatitis C.
