The Access Foundation is focused on making a real difference to people’s lives by awarding grants to charities which make a valuable and measurable positive impact.  Our grant giving objectives fall into three categories: 

1. to mitigate the digital divide by making computing facilities, support and learning available to disadvantaged and vulnerable people

1. to advance the charitable causes of the registered charities which are chosen as the "Access Group Company Charities of the Year" 

1. to advance the charitable causes of charities for whom there is a strong emotional connection with a member of staff (e.g. through support they or a close relative have received from the charity) 

The Foundation aims to achieve this via a fund from which it awards grants to other charitable organisations aligned with the principles above. You will be a key member or the team that works towards our target to award grants to a total value of about £2 million each year.  Together, we want to fund projects and activities which make a real difference to people’s lives in 9 countries (and counting). 

To achieve our objectives, we are looking to appoint an Admin and Grants Assistant to help run and improve our administrative processes.

Job objectives 

• Maintain and update our records using Excel and bespoke IT systems. For example, input invoices into our Finance system.  

• Provide a first point of contact for grant applicants and help them through the process of applying for a grant.  

• Ensure meeting minutes kept up to date and action points are communicated and distributed. 

• Manage the central inbox and website as a first point of call for many queries and grant applications. 

• Collaborate and work with the team to anticipate and meet the admin needs and use your initiative to make improvements. 

• Collating all necessary information for our impact report. 

Duties and responsibilities will include 

• Managing the grant application system. 

• Ensuring that all grant data including applications, decisions and monitoring & evaluation data is recorded in the system.  

• Liaising with small charities, trustees, volunteers and staff to ensure the smooth receipt of information required for grant submissions, including follow up and chasing financial data. 

• Organising meetings, visits and other activities for the Trustees and the Operations Manager.  

• Providing weekly reports to the trustees of new applications, applications in progress and outcomes. 

Skills and Experience Required 

• Accuracy and attention to detail 

• Organised, efficient and reliable with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously 

• Experience in a similar role 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with trustees, volunteers, staff and grantees.  

• Computer literate with familiarity with MS programs and excellent data entry skills. 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills 

• Ability to travel to London as required (minimum once every 6 weeks) 

• Sympathy for or experience in grassroots charities 

Desirable Qualities 

• Experience of the charity sector  

• Experience with Wordpress  

• Experience of managing third party and/or supplier relationships

Main purpose and scope of the role:

Parentkind is a national charity representing 13,000 Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and has a long term ambition to be the voice of parents in policy making. 

We are looking for someone to support our work in Westminster and Whitehall, improving our relationships across Parliament and inside government as we seek to be the credible voice of parents in UK policy making. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of advocacy and policy research in Westminster, either within Parliament or government. If you have a passion for politics, a background in policy research and an interest in education policy and politics this is the role for you.

The role will involve:

• Conducting research on parents, including polling of parents and their views. We have an ambition to make high quality policy recommendations based on this research. 
• Alongside the research requirements of the role, you will be expected to support our political and broader stakeholder engagement activity to make sure the work we do is seen by the right people. 
• Organise and plan political events to communicate our research, including roundtables, lunches and dinners and launch events in Westminster. 
• Lead on responding to public consultations on behalf of Parentkind to ensure the voice of parents is heard in the public consultations.

You will represent Parentkind at important events and meetings and have the chance to promote our research and policy recommendations. We would particularly welcome candidates who can demonstrate some media experience, including writing press releases and placing stories with national media outlets.

Duties and key responsibilities

Policy research and analysis

• To conduct research under the guidance of the Director of Policy and Research.
• To produce summarise large amounts of information and produce briefing material on education policy for external audiences, often at pace.
• To support the development of parent opinion polling related to our policy work.
• Respond to relevant consultations on behalf of Parentkind. 

Policy development

• To provide rapid briefing material for any relevant future business relating to Parliament and the UK government.
• To provide political monitoring and identify opportunities for political engagement.
• To support the development of policy recommendations and experience of publishing policy related research.

Political engagement

To plan and organise political events, such as roundtable discussions, lunches and dinners and launch events in Westminster.

To identify political stakeholders relevant to our work in Parliament and the UK government, including:

• officials inside government departments,
• elected representatives,
•  think tanks and other relevant research institutions.

To maintain a wide range of political contacts and meet with political stakeholders to promote our research and policy work.

To meet with organisations with an interest in our work and provide effective briefings.

To attend party conferences and other education led events to represent Parentkind. 

Media engagement

To support the Director of Policy and Research in media engagement, including background research for press releases. 

To summarise our policy and research ready for social media platforms.

 

We are currently recruiting an Interim Assistant HR Business Partner for a growing Care organisation based in Berkshire to support on a TUPE transfer for 2 to 3 months, starting at the beginning of August. The role will pay circa £280 per day through an umbrella company and can be either full or part time on a hybrid working arrangement but will require attendance in the office in Wokingham on a regular basis.

Working to the Employee Relations Business Partner, the purpose of this role is to support change processes and provide HR advice and support to managers about a range of topics such as absence management, disciplinary, performance capability, grievance and redeployment, in varying forms of complexity. The role may also involve some training activities and HR projects. The HR team strives to deliver a high quality customer focused service and this role is key to that successful delivery.

Your role will: -

• Lead TUPE processes with advice, planning the consultation and process, ensuring effective consultation and communication with trade unions, employees and the other company involved. Interrogate employee liability information. Seek legal advice where needed. Ensure payroll changes are made on transfer.
• Lead change process and consultations with advice, e.g. on restructures or contract changes. Liaise with trade union representatives, provide advice on consultation and communications, seek legal advice where needed.

• Support managers with a range of informal and formal employment processes, including complex disciplinary, performance and absence management cases.
• Provide advice and support to investigating managers during formal investigations and in preparation for hearings.
• Liaise with trade union representatives who are supporting employees with casework.
• Oversee the referral of employees to our Occupational Health provider and provide advice to managers on interpreting and implementing advice as appropriate. Provide advice about reasonable adjustments and redeployment for employees with disabilities.
• Cover any other generalist HR duties as required.

For this role, there is a preference for candidates with experience of working in Local Government or the wider public sector in a similar role, with demonstrable experience of leading on a TUPE process with guidance. You will lead on consultations which will be held in person on-site in Wokingham and therefore it is essential that you are able to get to Wokingham regularly.

Support Coordinator

EDI Committee Chair

We are looking for an EDI Committee Chair who will ensure that EDI-BIIDE runs through all that we do, in a way that aligns with our strategic objectives and our resources.

Position: EDI Committee Chair

Location: Remote or London based office

Duration: Initially three years with a potential to extend

Remuneration: £5,000 per annum + reasonable expenses.

About the Role

We are looking for an EDI Committee Chair to provide direction to the organisation’s EDI-BIIDE Work and to lead the EDI-BIIDE Committee, ensuring alignment between the organisation’s EDI-BIIDE Action Plan and the organisation’s three-year strategy and resources.

You will ensure EDI-BIIDE is consolidated into all aspects of our work – for our members, our staff and, crucially, for the public with whom we and our members interact professionally. You will embed good governance practices in everything the Committee and its members undertake, abiding by the Nolan principles.

The EDI Committee Chair will lead with confidence and collaborate effectively across the organisation to champion the work of the Committee and be accountable to the Board of Trustees for delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

• In liaison with the EDI-BIIDE Committee, to review the organisation’s EDI-BIIDE work to date, and to devise a revised EDI-BIIDE Action Plan that aligns with the organisation’s three-year strategy and resources.
• Lead the EDI-BIIDE Committee and ensure the Committee’s business is conducted collaboratively and methodically and that the Committee takes decisions within its authorised powers (as delegated by the Board of Trustees).
• Liaise with the organisation’s Board of Trustees, staff, and other committee chairs on the Committee’s work.
• Ensure decisions taken by the Committee are clear and unambiguous, and that responsibility for taking forward action points is properly allocated.
• Attend events and other external events as required, acting as an ambassador for the organisation’s work on EDI-BIIDE.
• Report to the Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis on the Committee’s activities, highlighting achievements, and escalating risks and issues as appropriate.
• Draft briefing notes and communications pieces for internal and external audiences as required.
• In collaboration with staff, recruit and induct members onto the Committee as required.
• Conduct periodic reviews on the effectiveness of the Committee and its members and implement improvements as necessary.

About You

You will need to have the following skills and experience:

• An extensive understanding of legal and social EDI-BIIDE matters (including the contextual, political, climatic and social changing landscapes, to advance equity for stakeholders, the public and UKCP). 
• Well-developed communication skills with attention to language meanings across different populations and audiences that promote equity, further collaboration, and uphold respect and dignity for all.
• Experience in embedding EDI-BIIDE principles and practices in an organisational context, understanding how to align EDI-BIIDE with wider business objectives, and working within resource constraints
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with experience working in an influential role and driving cultural changes for individuals, groups, communities, boards, training and teams.
• Proven success in leading and chairing a committee in similar environments
• Ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy, and empathy, and seek advice, guidance and support when necessary.
• Experience in effectively chairing meetings, and encouraging input from a diverse range of backgrounds
• Sufficient time to fulfil the demands of the role.

Butterfly Conservation is incredibly lucky to have thousands of volunteers who play a critical role in our work, and we want to give them the support they deserve. We are looking for a Volunteer Development Officer to help us improve the support we offer our existing volunteers, whilst also seeking to increase the diversity of our volunteer supporter base. You will be passionate about helping people to take action for the environment, highly organised and comfortable with both managing routine tasks as well as developing new initiatives.

You will assist in achieving Butterfly Conservation’s Volunteering strategic goals, with a specific emphasis on recruiting, training, communicating with, and celebrating volunteers from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, you will aim to inspire and empower more individuals to take action for butterflies and moths.

This is a remote working role, with occasional travel within the UK as required. You will need to be self-motivated, well organised and able to work independently, as part of a virtual team, and under pressure to meet challenging deadlines.

About the role

Advocates support people to express their views, understand their rights and make informed decisions. Much of their work is with some of the most vulnerable in our society who cannot speak up for themselves and have no family members or friends who can do so. Most of what we do operates within the legislative frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Mental Health Act and NHS Health Complaints process.

We are looking to recruit a permanent multi-skilled advocate to join our Berkshire team, working a minimum of 21 hours per week, up to 37 hours considered, starting salary £23,314 per annum, pro rata.

The post is multi-disciplinary and will cover all forms of advocacy. 

What we need from you

Putting people at the heart of what you do, you will work with people from across our communities. How you work will depend on each individual so the ability to communicate in a variety of ways, verbally and non-verbally, with clients and professionals, is key to success.

You may or may not have direct experience of this in your own life, or in another role, or have relevant qualifications but this isn’t a problem as we can offer training. We’re looking for people who are creative, flexible and organised, able to balance direct work with people with important administrative tasks.

As this role is home based with regular travel, mainly but not exclusively in the Berkshire area, you must be based in Berkshire or surrounding counties, you must have access to both a stable home broadband service, good mobile signal, a clean driving licence and your own transport as well as flexibility with working hours.

Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA) is the only UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of economic abuse and transforming responses to it. Our vision is a world in which all women and girls are economically equal and live their lives free of abuse and exploitation.

Economic abuse is a form of coercive and controlling behaviour: 95% of women who experience domestic abuse will experience economic abuse. It limits their choices and ability to access safety. 

We work in partnership to ensure women have access to and control over their own economic resources. We focus on four strategic priorities: public education and awareness-raising; transforming professional responses; ensuring systems do not inadvertently facilitate economic abuse; and influencing policy.

Our work is led by victim-survivors of economic abuse (Experts by Experience). Their lived experience and knowledge shapes everything we do. We are always learning, and we share our expertise via a national working group and an international network of practitioners, researchers and policymakers.

Founded in 2017, we are purposeful and agile in approach. We led the successful call to recognise and define economic abuse within the UK Parliament’s Domestic Abuse Bill. This has created a framework and momentum for change. Our aim now is to ensure that policy and practice recognises economic abuse so that victim-survivors are supported to achieve economic justice and abusers are held accountable for their behaviour.

About the Compass Project

The Compass Project Coordinator will work as part of an exciting new partnership between Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA), Living Without Abuse (LWA) and RISE (Refuge, Information, Support & Education). The Compass Project seeks to develop best practice responses to economic abuse within the coordinated community response by working with local professionals to help them understand and respond to economic abuse.

About the Compass Project Coordinator role

The Compass Project Coordinator will work to:

• Act as a point of contact for stakeholders across the Project areas (Brighton & Hove, Leicester, Rutland and Leicestershire), coordinating stakeholder engagement and access to training and resources. 
• Work closely with the Interim Women’s Sector Manager to coordinate and implement the Compass Project in pilot sites.

The Compass Project Coordinator will:

1. Collaborate with Compass Project Partners to:

• Support the coordination of training and dissemination of resources to professionals across the two pilot sites.
• Identify and engage with local lived experience groups and women with experience of economic abuse, ensuring inclusion of women from minoritised groups, to inform and guide our work.
• Develop and maintain key working relationships and partnerships with various stakeholders and partners across the two local sites including the facilitation of links with money and debt advice services, and local financial services.
• Support the collection of qualitative and quantitative data from the network for the purpose of project and external evaluation.

2. Facilitating access to economic abuse training and resources:

• Develop and deliver tailored training sessions on economic abuse to enable frontline workers to recognise and respond to economic abuse.
• Work with Compass Project Partners to integrate relevant economic abuse content into existing resources.
•  Implement data collection processes to support the evaluation of the project.
• Ensure effective communication with the project group and coordination of activities across the two pilot sites. Promote and facilitate SEA’s established routes to support for survivors and professionals.
• Attend local VAWG/DA Network meetings in a consultative capacity as an expert for economic abuse.
• Work with the communications teams across project partners to effectively promote the project.
• Facilitate referrals for women to the Domestic and Financial Abuse Team at Lloyds Banking Group and other banks/building societies we have direct links into.

3. General Duties and Responsibilities

• As part of the Specialist Team at SEA, manage the info@ email account on a designated day.
•  Represent SEA in training and presentation requests.
• Contribute to evaluation reports and presentations as required for the Compass Project.
• To contribute to the promotion of SEA and its work and uphold its behaviours and values.
• To participate and contribute to team meetings and organisational development.
• To engage in learning and take responsibility for continuous personal development.
• To comply with SEA and MAP’s policies and procedures and legal requirements, such as provisions set out in the GDPR, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Equality Act 2010.

Person specification

We are looking for a domestic abuse and/or frontline community professional with an interest in developing expertise around economic abuse. In order to apply, you should have the following skills and experience:

Essential knowledge/skills/experience

• Knowledge and experience of supporting and working with victim-survivors of domestic abuse. Frontline experience of working with victim-survivors would be an advantage.
• An understanding of the coordinated community response to domestic abuse and commitment to all aspects of partnership working to improve the response.
•  A strong and demonstrable interest in economic abuse.
• Experience of developing and delivering training face to face and online.
• Strong communication and engagement skills.
• Experience of safeguarding and managing risk.
• Experience of working in partnership and managing relationships with voluntary and statutory sector agencies to enable their full participation in the partnership.
• Demonstratable experience of implementing project delivery plans with a range of stakeholders, and reporting on progress and risk management.
• Ability to produce high quality documents and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills including the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

• A commitment to the values and ethos of SEA.
