Working arrangements: Full time, 35 hours a week. Standard working hours between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working, with a minimum of 6 days per month in the office. This role requires travel within the UK and internationally and attendance at evening and weekend events.
An exciting opportunity to lead a high-performing fundraising team and help shape our new fundraising campaign to improve patient care and reduce ill health across communities.
As Director of Development, you’ll lead our efforts to bring major donors, trusts/foundations and corporate partners into long term relationships of trust with the Royal College of Physicians. Your core responsibility will be to encourage and motivate the fundraising team, including line management of the Deputy Director for Corporate Partnerships and the Head of Philanthropy. You’ll also cultivate your own individual portfolio of international donors and find opportunities to engage face-to-face with prospective supporters at the major and principal gift level.
You’ll be trusted to work autonomously to develop and implement our fundraising strategy and work with our development board on planning for a new fundraising campaign, following the successful close of our £10 million Giving Health campaign. You will help achieve our strategic aim to increase our income from major gift fundraising and, depending on results, you’ll also have the opportunity to grow the size of the fundraising function.
You’ll report to and work closely with the CEO, Chief of Staff, and have the full support and involvement of the President, College Officers and Trustees.
Purpose and scope
Key responsibilities
- Shape the overall strategic goals of a new multi-year fundraising campaign and ensure that we deliver our ambitious income generation targets on an annual basis
- Work closely with the president, trustees, chief executive officer and other senior colleagues and volunteers to develop and implement the RCP's fundraising strategy
- Enhance our fundraising profile to highlight the contributions of donors and the impact of funded projects at all levels
- Refresh our fundraising comms strategy and produce high quality, in-depth digital and hardcopy materials
- Plan an annual programme of engagement between the President/CEO and international major gift prospects, including from the 20% of our membership based outside of the UK
- Facilitate the work of development committee members in advising on strategy, monitoring progress towards agreed targets, introducing new prospects, and helping with cultivation
- Support the development of fundraising skills among colleagues - both your direct reports, the Deputy Director for Corporate Partnerships and the Head of Philanthropy - and senior colleagues involved in making asks
- Maximise the fundraising potential of the RCP’s heritage collections and grow the fundraising income of our museum, archive, and library
- Ensure due diligence on prospective donors and adherence to internal processes and procedures for fundraising, reporting, financial management and information management
- Oversee the existing awards programme, which is administered by the development administrator
About you
- A proven track record of effective fundraising leadership
- Substantive major gift experience, including securing six figure gifts from either individuals, trusts/foundations or corporate partners
- Influencing and negotiating at the most senior levels externally and within an organisation; able to describe and communicate compelling propositions and to 'ask' for the gift
- Track record of developing a fundraising strategy over time, demonstrating innovation and creativity as well as knowledge and experience of successful programmes from peer organisations
- Highly developed stakeholder management skills with proven ability to create, develop and sustain trusted and effective relationships with major philanthropic partners and potential partners
- Highly developed networking skills to build and sustain a network of supporters for the RCP
- Track record of successful line management that builds and motivates a successful team
- Strong skill set in decision making, understanding complex environments, strategic thinking and an exceptional ability to communicate
- Strong organisational skills to maximise outcomes against multiple competing priorities

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Community Development Worker to work as part of our Oasis Hub on the Isle of Sheppey, to engage and work with the community by helping them to access Hub activities, and the social supermarket project.
Key responsibilities will be:
- To deliver the Sheppey Support Bus project and ensure its day-to-day operational tasks are fulfilled.
- To liaise with our community partners including supermarkets, Fairshare etc to support and provide for Oasis activities, including the Sheppey Support Bus.

The successful post holder must have:
- A relevant professional qualification in Community Work or able to demonstrate qualification by experience.

About the Role
As Principal Consultant in the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) portfolio, you will be critical in expanding and enhancing the portfolio’s work. This will include developing bids for evaluations and other contracts, leading the delivery of evaluation contracts and growing the network and reputation of SDDirect. The Principal Consultant will be expected to apply feminist values and gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) technical expertise to the design and delivery of complex and multi-country evaluations. Summary of role
Reports to: Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Portfolio
Direct reports: Up to 3 reportees.
Location: UK-based candidates must be eligible to work in the UK upon appointment. SDDirect's Head Office is located in Old Street, London. We operate a hybrid working model with flexibility on the frequency of office visits, which can be discussed further during the recruitment process.

Remuneration Package: This role is Band E, with a salary range of £55,000 - £85,000. Salary upon appointment will be commensurate with experience and in line with team members in equivalent roles.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Principal Consultant in the MEL Portfolio, you will focus on providing technical and thought leadership in feminist evaluation. You will lead complex, multi-country and mixed-methods evaluations, which will focus on GEDSI as it relates to one of our SDDirect portfolios. You may also be involved in designing and delivering research across our other portfolios. In addition to delivery, you will also be involved in winning new work, leading evaluation, research or MEL bid development and raising SDDirect’s external profile and reputation.
Technical Design, Delivery & Leadership
· Design and deliver a range of mixed-methods evaluations, often in shifting and unpredictable contexts, including impact, formative, summative or process evaluations with a GEDSI focus. This will include the design of the approach, data collection tools and methodologies (surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, workshops, etc.) and analysis of the data collected.
· Support the development of SDDirect’s body of knowledge and practice on feminist evaluation, staying up to date with current thinking on models, methods, good practice and relevant debates.
· Provide leadership to SDDirect contracts as relevant, including project management responsibilities, client liaison, and support to and technical leadership of consultancy teams.
· To use negotiation and diplomacy skills and to confidently manage challenging conversations.
· To ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, to high-quality standards, and in keeping with SDDirect’s ethics and ethos.
· To provide support to SDDirect’s other portfolios (Equal Education, Safeguarding, Green Economies and Infrastructure, Governance and Inclusive Societies, Gender-Based Violence), as appropriate on MEL or in research design and delivery.
· To provide technical support to other members of the MEL portfolio to support their growth and development. This would include providing actionable and constructive quality assurance and feedback to other team members.
Raising SDDirect’s Profile
· To establish and maintain close relationships and effective networks with our clients, partners and consultants, drawing on their own professional networks.
· To represent SDDirect at meetings, conferences and on social media and ensure that SDDirect’s work on GEDSI and evaluation is disseminated and profiled externally in a clear and accessible way, especially with key fora in the MEL sector.
· To provide internal thought leadership and professional development activities on MEL, raising the capacity of other staff on MEL.
Business Development
To contribute to the growth of SDDirect’s portfolio of work in this technical area, through:
· Identifying areas of growth and new business opportunities through close and direct contact with clients, potential clients, partners, potential partners, in-house staff and external consultants.
· Supporting the Business Development Team in identifying relevant opportunities to expand the portfolio and pipeline.
· Act as technical lead on MEL bids, bringing a rigorous understanding of evaluation design and GEDSI relevant analytical frameworks for relevant bids and proposals to clients.
· Engaging with and influencing emerging opportunities and delivery concepts and ensuring SDDirect’s MEL offering is responsive to market requirements and aligns with SDDirect’s equitable partnership principles.
Growing Younger Team Roles – Mission Enabler (Youth)
The Diocese of Durham is seeking proactive, dynamic and pioneering individuals with a passion for reaching and discipling emerging generations to be part of our new Growing Younger team of Mission Enablers.
The Growing Younger team will work collaboratively and creatively to enable the delivery of the Growing Younger stream of the Diocesan Transformation programme, with a specific focus on building mission and discipleship pathways for 0-25s, growing missional chaplaincy in FE colleges and schools, and raising up new youth and children’s leaders.
The successful candidates will each have a focused area of work (children, youth, young adults) and will work both individually and collectively to support the development and implementation of local mission initiatives, spending a substantial proportion of their time in parishes and deaneries to raise local aspirations, grow local vision and strategy, increase local capacity and pioneer local mission.
