About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans, working in partnership with Crawley Borough Council Sustainability Team as a Project Officer, delivering active travel initiatives in schools across Crawley. 

As the Project Officer, you will communicate confidently about walking, cycling and wheeling within school and communities in Crawley. You will be working closely with schools, enabling the pupils and families in the schools' surrounding area to leave their cars at home for the school journey.

You will engage with schools and communities across Crawley; developing and delivering activities and events in schools which promote and enable all forms of active travel to school, through practical skills, incentive programmes and classroom sessions. 

Contributing to the objectives of Sustrans and Crawley Borough Council, you will promote the benefits of active travel.

You’ll work as part of a small, specialist team to provide expert information and support to people with Parkinson’s and their families across the UK on complex care needs and social care issues by phone, email and post.

You’ll support Local Parkinson’s Advisers, Helpline Advisers and the wider organisation on care issues, and help to ensure knowledge and resources in this area are up to date and relevant. 

What you’ll do:

• Provide expert information and support on complex care needs and issues directly to people affected by Parkinson’s across the UK, signposting to appropriate internal and external resources as necessary

• Ensure accurate and up to date information and support is given on all aspects relating to care, including hospital discharge and residential care

• Work as part of a specialist team to keep abreast of trends and developments in the field, helping to disseminate this information as appropriate

• Engage with and provide information, support and training to the Helpline, Regional Teams and wider charity 

• Ensure that the responses made to enquiries and referrals are delivered within agreed protocols, timelines and procedures and provide a professional service at all times, including maintaining accurate and timely records in line with service procedures

What you’ll bring:

• Proven experience of working in an information and advisory capacity, working with people on all aspects relating to care, and supporting them to resolve issues 

• Excellent knowledge of current social care issues and proposed reforms, preferably across all four nations 

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information to a wide range of people 

• Ability to deliver training around care such as hospital discharge, residential care and continuing health care 

• Ability to cope with challenging or emotional enquiries and clients and to work in an empathetic way with a strong customer-orientated approach 

• Strong working knowledge of Scottish adult social care legislation is desirable but not essential

 Key responsibilities include:

• Managing all administrative tasks and provide comprehensive support for international projects, events, and bid processes, ensuring seamless execution and coordination across global initiatives.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to drive business development efforts, identifying and pursuing new opportunities for the international portfolio. Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of business growth initiatives.
• Assist in the preparation of proposals and pitches by editing, formatting, and enhancing documents and presentations with visually compelling charts and graphics, using tools like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark and drive forward a developing income stream with great potential.

The role will help to build, shape and deliver our In Memory Giving programme over the 12 months of this maternity cover role. Through engaging communications and campaigns the role will grow both income and the pipeline of new donors. The role will help to innovate and improve existing systems to support its delivery, and also provide excellent supporter care and stewardship.

The role is within the Legacy and In Memory team, and will work in close collaboration with Legacy Marketing colleagues.

About you

You will have experience in fundraising and/or marketing, and have a broad range of skills to successfully deliver on the potential of this role. We are looking for someone to develop engaging campaigns and communications that drives income and long-term relationships, and who has the communication and influencing skills to liaise across internal teams and stakeholders and external agencies/suppliers.

As well as having a head for CRM systems, planning and problem solving, you will have the interpersonal skills needed to communicate sensitively with supporters, including the bereaved.
