About the role

The Start for Life Programme aims to support families during the “critical first 1001 days”- from pregnancy until the child is two years of age. The Research Fellow will join the team conducting the evaluation of these innovative models of providing early years services. The team is led by Oxford University and is being conducted in collaboration with Anna Freud, University College London, and Ecorys.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Gather available information about a detained person whose case has been referred to Medical Justice

2. Assess the detained person’s needs and the relevant Medical Justice resources available that could assist them

3. Raise any immediate concerns about your client appropriately within Medical Justice and beyond

4. Prioritise referrals (in collaboration with the Casework Manager and the rest of the casework team)

5. Agree a plan of action with the Casework Manager to ensure as many resources as appropriate are marshalled to assist the detained person regarding:

a. Collating of existing medical evidence regarding the detained person and generating new medical evidence, including medico-legal reports (MLRs) and professional letters produced as a result of Medical Justice clinicians’ assessments in detention and/or remotely at your request

b. Challenging any inadequate healthcare provision

c. Facilitating access to good legal representation to challenge detention and to make the best use of the medical evidence we provide, and establish any availability of Legal Aid Agency funding for MLRs and interpreters

d. Facilitating access to appropriate support including accommodation and access to healthcare on release from detention

6. Obtain relevant consent from detained clients

7. Gather further required information needed about a detained client, including medical records, files held by the Home Office, and the detained client’s legal documents

8. Carry out various other actions agreed by the Casework Manager to implement the above plan. This may include:

a. Arranging medical visits to detainees

b. Liaising with healthcare providers in the immigration removal centre (IRC) 

c. Liaising with detained clients

d. Finding appropriate legal representation for a client

e. Signposting or making referrals to other organisations

9. Provide information to the Office Manager for booking medical visits and interpreters

10. Continually update the  case-management system

11. With support from the Casework Manager and Clinical Advisor/clinical reviewers, ensure medical evidence generated is accurate and aligned with instructions from any legal representative and Medical Justice guidance

12. Continually feedback to the staff team any intelligence regarding immigration detention conditions

13. Assist the Casework Manager to provide a monthly report for Trustees on the number of referrals, outcomes and Medical Justice clinicians engaged, noting any areas of concern

14. Collaborate with other staff and partner organisations in activities to secure lasting change including litigation, research, policy work and media work. This could include identification of cases, assisting in getting consent from detained clients, and contributing to briefings and witness statements

15. Where required, attend other meetings and events as agreed with the Casework Manager, including Trustee meetings and events with partner organisations.

16. Assist in other Medical Justice activities, including clinician and interpreter training .

17. Respect and comply with Medical Justice's policies and procedure, including clients’ confidentiality, equality and diversity, health and safety, and vulnerable adults.

General

18. To work flexibly as a member of the team and the organisation and undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities at the request of the Casework Manager.

19. To assist the smooth running of the organisation, working with other Medical Justice staff, and the Trustees to meets its overall objectives, including participation in periodic performance and training reviews, and contribute to organisational development. Also, attending and assisting with relevant events as appropriate.

The Editorial Assistant - EJN will assist the EJN Senior Editor and Content Officer at Internews' Earth Journalism Network (EJN), a global network working with journalists and media outlets in virtually every region of the world to improve the quality of climate and environmental reporting. 

The Editorial Assistant will assist with the production, tracking, and distribution of EJN content, maintaining the EJN website and providing editorial support to EJN program staff across regions. The Role:

As the Student Services and Operations Co-ordinator, you will be the first point of contact for all new enquiries and for queries from enrolled students and parents. You will be the voice of Greenwich Music School, embodying our values of positivity, creativity, quality, and respect. Through smooth communication and efficient scheduling you will create opportunities and solve problems for learners, enabling them to discover and achieve through music. 
 

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service and Enrolment Coordination:

• Act as the first point of contact for new enquiries, enrolled students, parents, and teachers. 
• Ensure all messages are responded to within two working days, consistently providing timely support by maintaining an ‘inbox zero’ approach. 
• Efficiently manage and prioritise a high volume of incoming queries to ensure a consistently smooth and supportive customer experience, from initial contact through to enrolment and ongoing student engagement.
• Liaise with CEO, Principal, teaching team and other specialists as necessary, including for specific streams such as bursary applicants and students with SEND, ensuring they receive the support they need.
• Track contact through our CRM and process data securely.
• For candidates based in or near Greenwich, the role may also include assisting student performers at our concerts and events, printing and packing, opening up teaching rooms for hire, moving and setting up equipment.

Scheduling and Lesson Management:

• Schedule and manage an efficient lesson timetable each term, accommodating individual lessons, group courses, and early years classes.
• Update and adjust schedules as necessary, taking into account multiple variables to ensure optimal use of resources and teacher availability.
• Efficient use of technology including the lesson booking and calendar platform, Slack, Google sheets, Zoho CRM, and other apps and services as required (training provided). 

The role may also include other administrative tasks and assistance within reason, to ensure the smooth running of the charity.

As Head of Politics, working closely with the programme leadership team and other key colleagues, you’ll lead on, oversee and take responsibility for the development of political strategies within and across our campaigns – playing to our organisational strengths including media work, mass engagement, investigations, NVDA and organising.

As a team leader you’ll set team strategy and expectations and provide line management and leadership to your team of political campaigners, whilst nurturing a collaborative, effective and supportive working culture. Beyond Support – Women’s Telephone Support Worker – Southampton

Beyond the Streets is a small charity with a big determination to see routes out for women selling sex in the UK.  Our ‘Direct Work’ is central to the organisation, and due to an increase in service demand we are looking to increase our staff team by recruiting a Women’s Telephone Support Worker.

Working as part of a small team in our office in Southampton, you will be responsible for providing regular telephone support to a caseload of women.  Within this, you will be often the first point of support for women involved in the sex industry, offering a listening ear for them to process some of their feelings and experiences within this space and providing emotional support; as well as providing more practical assistance to overcome the barriers they face in accessing support.  This could be through advocating with external agencies e.g., mental health, housing, problematic substance use, homelessness, poverty, domestic abuse, sexual violence, the criminal justice system; and to make positive steps forward with their lives.

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) exists to protect the natural world and defend our basic human right to a secure environment.

We believe in equity and justice and a need to respect, defend, and empower communities most at risk from habitat loss, biodiversity collapse and global heating.

We campaign for environmental justice and work internationally, presenting investigative findings to high-level decision-makers to shape systemic, durable reform. We expose abuses and support environmental defenders, Indigenous peoples, independent journalists and communities on the frontlines of environmental injustice.

With over 115 staff in 16 countries, our campaigns are outcome-focused, presenting findings from our investigations, research and films to decision-takers and media to secure policy changes and high-impact results for environmental justice. Key campaigns include:

Ocean: Defending precious marine biodiversity and protecting coastal communities whose human rights depend on marine habitats. EJF campaigns to protect the ocean from climate change, destructive and illegal fishing, deep- sea mining and plastic pollution, and to end ‘seafood slavery’.

Climate: Campaigning for legal protection and assistance for climate refugees and those on the frontlines of climate change; and to protect Nature’s carbon stores, including wetlands, forests and ocean biomes.

Environmental Defenders: Providing targeted training and equipment, guidance and support that enables grassroots activists, Indigenous peoples, and independent journalists to document, expose and end threats to their natural world and human rights.

The role:

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced person to coordinate the delivery of EJF’s portfolio of cutting-edge campaigns, which bring about critical impacts for both people and the planet. We seek an outstanding, confident professional to support the Directors in coordinating our campaigns, projects and programmes globally. You will report directly to the CEO and play a key role in ensuring our growing advocacy teams deliver meaningful impacts to protect people and our planet. You will be exposed to a diverse range of campaigns across four continents and gain invaluable experience effectively administrating a growing charity and international organisation. The post will not manage projects, campaigns or programmes but ensure the most efficient and effective co-ordination.

The successful candidate will work across all EJF campaigns and operations, taking responsibility to:

• Develop a monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress against campaign strategies. This will include ensuring that all projects and campaigns have a plan with precise, measurable outcomes, outputs, activities, roles and responsibilities, timelines and budgets pre-agreed with the programme lead and CEO.
• Ensure staff regularly and thoroughly update progress and challenges in delivering outcomes and outputs activities and that the CEO is kept full briefed.
• Assess, in detail, which projects are progressing on schedule, within budget, and delivering planned outcomes.
• Deliver constructive, critical impact evaluation as measured against pre- agreed metrics.
• Track and update major campaign activities and outputs in one accessible, calendarised central location for the Directors and Senior Management Team.
• This will include significant campaign initiatives, key advocacy meetings, and relevant third-party dates/events.
• Ensure the compilation and submission of progress reports and other updates to funders.
• Work closely with the CEO and Senior Management Team (SMT) to ensure global teams coordinate fully and share information on cross-cutting or mutually beneficial projects.
• Work with the communications team to ensure the entire team network stays updated with the latest campaign developments and has an overview of EJF's work across different jurisdictions.
• Assist in producing detailed external communications, primarily to donors on behalf of the Directors.
• Propose simple, effective and use-friendly systems to be used by the global team to share information and intelligence
• Support team leads in ensuring their staff work efficiently, flagging and helping identify swift resolution to any issues or challenges.

Skills and experience

This challenging, fast-paced and varied role demands meticulous attention to detail, creative thinking, an ability to grasp new issues quickly, and a ‘can do’ attitude. The Campaigns Coordinator will have superb organisational and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to coordinate projects, ideally in international environments and across diverse teams.

Essential skills and attributes

• Outstanding project or programme management experience (of at least three years), including coordinating campaigns and projects on time and within budget, and with knowledge in output, outcome, and impact monitoringframeworks.
• Strategic and pragmatic thinker with proven experience leading campaign strategy development, planning, delivery and evaluation.
• Excellent, collaborative working style with proven experience in leading, convening and inspiring action in a cross-cultural environment and across diverse and dispersed teams.
• First-class communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information verbally and in writing clearly and simply to staff and relevant external audiences (e.g. funders).
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
• Excellent organisational skills, self-motivated and able to prioritise workloads and balance multiple work streams.
• You can work independently and effectively collaborate with colleagues and partners overseas. You are reliable, determined, creative, positive, and resourceful.
