About You

You will have experience of managing housing services, in a general-needs, homelessness setting. You will be skilled in organising a demanding and varied workload, planning work and projects and successfully completing these to set deadlines.

Join a small commercial team with big ambitions for the public library sector. We are seeking a Commercial Manager to help us realise our plans to secure a menu of commercial contracts that all of our 175+ member library services can choose to benefit from, according to the skills and assets of their service, their focus and strategy and of course the needs of their communities.

Our Commercial Team

Currently we hold a single commercial contract worth around £3m per year delivered through 12 libraries. Our aim is to reach a point where we have a menu of commercial contracts that all of our 175+ member library services can choose to benefit from according to the skills and assets of their service, their focus and strategy and of course the needs of their communities.

In the current funding climate for local authorities and local government services, these contracts are not just about the income and the services they can provide, but about demonstrating nationally the power of the library sector, and how national services can be delivered locally through library services and the communities they serve.

This is a long term aim of ours – we are seeking to build the commercial team with this role and while it is initially a 12 month contract, our hope is that with the role in place we can generate the income to sustain and build on it.

Main purpose of role:

• Support the delivery of commercial projects across the library sector
• Lead the bidding process for new commercial projects
• Manage the mobilisation and setup of contracts and services
• Manage the ongoing delivery of commercial contracts and services including management reporting and contract / service optimisation to increase benefit to the libraries and sector
• Ensure appropriate agreements are in place with our network of library partners to support current and future commercial collaboration
• Ensure we have organisational documentation and accreditation in place to bid for large government contracts
• Support the development of beneficial procurement frameworks for libraries
• Support the development of commercial skills and capacity across the library sector
• Contribute to the growing commercial awareness and understanding within the organisation, its partners and its members.

The role of the Trusts and Grants fundraiser is to build on-going relationships with Charitable Trusts and Foundations, whether those Trusts/Foundations are local to Birmingham and the West Midlands, or based elsewhere in the U.K., so as to continue to source financial support for St Basils in terms of grants for both revenue and capital purposes.

With a new CEO and Director of Income Generation on board, and a new three-year strategy in development, there is considerable potential to develop the major gifts income streams and the Trusts Fundraising programme. You will be responsible for circa £800k income this financial year with the opportunity to develop and grow both income streams.

Your excellent oral and written communication skills will play a key role in personally cultivating and developing relationships with high profile funders and supporters to ensure we are maximising the strategic and financial benefit to Helen & Douglas House. In addition, you will work to maximise donor recruitment, retention and ultimately lifetime value.

To succeed in this role, you will possess strong experience in major donor and/or trust fundraising. You will be experienced in developing and delivering complex income and expenditure budgets, including regular variance reporting and reforecast and planning contingency action. While experience of Donorflex or other similar relational database is preferable, training can be provided.

Role description

Title: Interim General Manager

Contract: 24 hours per week (3 days). 6 month temporary contract (extended leave cover)

Location: Remote and at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre 

Salary: £50,470.00 full-time pa; pro rata

Our General Manager is going on an extended leave, so we are looking for someone who can lead the team, continue our fundraising efforts and generally hold the fort for six months. 

Some of the key milestones of the period the new General Manager will be responsible for include: supporting the team in hosting a fundraising event, meeting key grant writing deadlines, supporting Finance Lead in producing the end of year accounts and all on-going financial reporting, renewing corporate sponsorship agreements with current partners.

We are interested in hearing from individuals who could cover all areas of the role including fundraising (3 days / week); as well as those who could take on the General Manager role but might not have fundraising experience (2 days / week) and fundraisers (specifically with experience in writing grants) who might prefer a part time assignment such as this (1 day / week).

About the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre

The London LGBTQ+ Community Centre is an award-winning charity launched by a team of volunteers in 2017. In December 2021 we opened our first physical space in London’s bankside.

Our mission is to provide London with a sober, intersectional, intergenerational, community centre and café where all LGBTQ+ people feel welcome and supported, can build connections, and flourish. Our vision is for a more connected, belonging and thriving LGBTQ+ community in London.

The Centre is visited by over 1,100 people each month. In 2023, we hosted 600 events joined by over 9,000 participants. And the Centre was visited by over 14,000 visitors.

The role

As a member of the Fundraising Team, the post holder will work with the Individual Giving Development Manager on implementing audience focused fundraising campaigns that deliver long-term sustainable income, as well as mutually beneficial relationships with our supporters.  The post holder will maximise lifetime value and loyalty by delivering fundraising campaigns across multiple channels. The post holder will use evidence-based insights to create fundraising campaigns that increase our overall effectiveness. The post holder will be responsible for providing outstanding supporter experience and stewardship to TVAA supporters.

We have achieved significant growth over the last five years, largely through individual giving, legacies, major gifts, and some in memorial giving. We are keen to make a step change in our voluntary income, this is an exciting time of growth and opportunity at TVAA, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person to join our team.

About you

This is a fantastic opportunity to become a key member of our fundraising team.
You will have experience of working in a charity fundraising or marketing environment and experience of supporting the planning and delivering of projects or campaigns using a variety of media. Experience in producing newsletter content, using social media for marketing and direct mail and digital campaigns would be advantageous, as would experience of dealing with customer or supporter queries. You will have strong communication, interpersonal and negotiating  skills and be able  to work to a multiple  of tasks at a time, and to be able to engage with a wide range of people is essential.
