The Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of Energy Adviser, to work on either a full or part time basis. Job share applications are also welcome. This role provides an exciting and rewarding opportunity to help the charity build its profile amongst regional stakeholders whilst delivering projects that seek to bring an end to fuel poverty and to the misery of cold homes that is experienced by over 6.5 million households in the UK.
NEA’s Energy Advisers are empathetic, polite and have good listening skills but are also knowledgeable, assertive, and confident. Their main role is to provide one to one advice to clients referred through the charity’s Warm and Safe Homes helpline and to deliver energy advice presentations to groups. They also get involved in a range of tasks to support these activities. Energy Advisers sit within the Communities Directorate and are part of a dynamic and caring team of professionals who go the extra mile to support their clients, some of whom may be in difficult circumstances.

What you will need to succeed
Working within our Communities Directorate you will have demonstrable experience of delivering Energy Advice and helping others. Therefore, it is vital that you have empathy, confidence and knowledge of the issues facing vulnerable low-income households.
You will have knowledge and understanding of the environmental, social and economic problems of deprived areas and the roles of the public, private and voluntary sectors in tackling them.
You will also have knowledge of assistance available for energy efficiency improvements to low-income households.
You will be an excellent communicator, with proven experience and understanding of how to effectively address the energy needs of low income, vulnerable or disadvantaged householders – with the desire to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
NEA has several office locations throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and welcomes applicants from all regions, however we would particularly welcome applications from those living in Kent and the South-East. Home working and office-based locations are available. Preferences will be discussed with candidates at interview. Hybrid working is subject to necessary H&S and GDPR checks. We are offering:
£28,163 – £33,205 (FTE) – Scale 5-6, Points 12-22 (plus £3,300 London Weighting if applicable). New appointments are usually made at the starting point of the scale.

What will you be doing:
Ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded, and that financial controls and procedures are in place to safeguard the charity's assets. This role also plays a key part in providing strategic financial guidance to senior leadership and supporting the charity's growth and development.
Main duties and responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare timely, accurate, and comprehensive financial reports, including monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, balance sheets, and income statements.
- Lead the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget in consultation with senior management, ensuring alignment with the charity’s goals and objectives.
- Provide detailed financial analysis to senior leadership, highlighting variances, trends, and forecasts that could impact the charity’s financial health.

Financial Control & Compliance
- Oversee the charity’s accounting systems and processes, ensuring they are efficient, accurate, and compliant with charity law, accounting standards, and internal policies.
- Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls to protect the charity’s assets, minimize risk, and ensure proper governance.
- Manage the charity's cash flow to ensure financial stability and the ability to meet operational and project funding needs.
- Prepare and submit all Office for National Statistics, Charity Commission, Companies House and returns.
- Audit & Tax: Coordinate the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring that all tax filings (e.g., VAT, Corporation Tax, Gift Aid) are submitted on time and in accordance with regulations.

Grant & Fund Management
- Ensure that all grants are managed and reported on in accordance with donor requirements, including preparation of grant financial reports and adherence to restricted fund reporting.
- Oversee the accounting and tracking of restricted funds, ensuring funds are used in compliance with donor specifications.
- Prepare reporting on funding sources for Trustees, Projects Department including trends to enhance and ensure financial sustainability.

Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and develop a finance team, ensuring high levels of performance, motivation, and professional development.
- Provide financial training and guidance to non-finance staff to ensure they understand and comply with financial policies and procedures.

Financial Strategy & Planning
- Work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement the charity’s financial strategy, supporting long-term sustainability and growth.
- Provide regular financial forecasts and risk assessments to inform decision-making.

Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) is preferred.

There is much to do in challenging circumstances. Our national campaign has global support with real opportunity with a new Parliament to build back to our level of influence to our experiences before the dramatic impact of Brexit, the COVID pandemic and cost of living crisis. Working closely alongside and reporting to the Director of Policy and Influencing (who has nearly 3 decades of expertise), you will learn the field to deliver high quality policy and campaigning for the charity.
Engaging confidently with people and feeling comfortable in adapting your approach to different audiences is a key skill for this role – epilepsy, and in particular epilepsy bereavement is a challenging area to gain attention and change, so you’ll need tenacity, creativity and passion to succeed. You’ll have experience in writing punchy, evidence-based communications that have personal stories at the heart.
Building positive supporter connections is at the heart of what we do at SUDEP Action, so setting a positive example of this through your work and actions, and demonstrating the importance of maintaining strong, personalised relationships is key. You’ll be ready to record, monitor and evaluate the impact and engagement with policy work, so this feeds back into how the charity operates. NEA’s Benefits Entitlements and Claims Support Officers are empathetic, polite and have good listening skills but are also knowledgeable, assertive, and confident. The post holder will be responsible for giving comprehensive benefit entitlement advice and support to householders. The post holder will obtain relevant information about a client’s circumstances and offer accurate guidance about potential eligibility for additional benefit entitlements. This will include the completion of application forms as appropriate. Advice will be given over the phone, via online contact and in face-to-face settings where appropriate.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
You will have a good understanding of Welfare Rights, including entitlements, systems, claim processes and current legislation and practices. Demonstrable experience of providing advice via telephone and face to face.
You will need good organisational skills, excellent communication skills as well as an understanding of the needs of low income, vulnerable or disadvantaged householders.

We are looking for two Direct Marketing Officers to manage and deliver a series of high standard direct marketing campaigns across our Regular Giving programme; recruiting, retaining and upgrading regular donors to generate agreed income through a variety of direct marketing methods such as direct dialogue, DRTV, digital, and direct mail; encouraging regular monthly gifts or support via one of our main products such as general Regular Giving and Sponsorship, our Lottery, Value Exchange programme and other methods of committed giving as they arise.
