Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help sort, value and display our book donations in our shops to help turn them into cash.
What will I be doing?
Sorting through our book donations and pricing them ready for sale
Researching interesting books online on sites such as eBay, Amazon and Abe Books to value them for sale in the shop
Displaying the books on the shop floor ensuring books are rotated regularly to increase sales
Enlisting help from local auction houses when needed
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.
What skills do I need?
It’d be great if you have some knowledge of or interest in books, know what to look out for with book publishing dates etc.

Are you looking for a flexible volunteering role, which still makes a real difference? Rainbows supports around 750 babies, children and young people, throughout the East Midlands, each year; but the annual statutory funding we receive would only keep Rainbows open for 7 weeks. Therefore, our Community Fundraisers play a vital role in helping us to, quite literally, keep our doors open.
With over 100 fundraising events and activities each year, there are lots of different ways you could help us raise vital money to help us brighten short lives – there really is something for everyone! Not only is it a great opportunity to connect with a range of different people; it is also one of our most flexible volunteering roles, allowing volunteers to choose events which fit around their schedule and commitments.
We’ll keep you in the loop with our regular newsletter, packed with exciting updates on Rainbows’ activities and a list of upcoming events needing volunteer support.
Typical tasks the role could involve:
- Join the Team: Come together with other local volunteers to help plan engaging fundraising events in your community.
- Super Seller: Sell and handle small cash transactions for Rainbows and other fun fundraising activities, such as our famous handbag amnesty.
- Information Sharer: Inspire people to take action in support of Rainbows and be the go-to person for anyone seeking information of Rainbows.
- Events Extraordinaire: Play a key role in larger Rainbows events such as Santa Runs and Christmas concerts.
- Get Creative: If you have a great idea for a fundraising activity, we’ll aim to work with you to see how we can put this into action and allow you to help support Rainbows.

At Rainbows, we support around 750 babies, children and young people with serious and terminal conditions throughout the East Midlands, providing support at our Hospice, in local hospitals and at home. As part of this, our Family Support Team work with families to navigate through the emotions of caring for a child who has a life-limiting condition.
As these families can be based all across the region, Keep in Touch Volunteers play a vital role in connecting families with the Hospice. Volunteers do this by making an outreach telephone call to a family; checking-in with them and signposting them to any wider support which may be needed, as well as any support or services which Rainbows may be able to provide.
Typical tasks the role could involve:
- Making outreach telephone calls to Rainbows families.
- Checking on a family’s welfare and alerting them to available support if needed.
- Relaying any concerns to the Family Support Team.
- Regularly submitting an activity log summarising their calls so we can make sure everyone is receiving the help they need.
Will it suit me?
This profoundly rewarding volunteer role is ideal if you love engaging with people and are passionate about directly supporting Rainbows families across the East Midlands. This role is ideal for someone with excellent interpersonal and listening skills who can think on their feet. Given the nature of our work, empathy and sensitivity towards the needs of children, young people, and their families are crucial. You'll be using your computer skills to record outcomes of your conversations in our database, so a basic confidence with technology is a must. Understanding the importance of confidentiality, boundaries, and safeguarding is essential within Rainbows. While previous experience in caring for others is beneficial, it is not a requirement.

Demelza Charity is seeking high calibre individuals to join our team of Trustees.

Are you a senior experienced retailer, familiar with all aspects of maximising profitability and positive customer experience. You will help us to maximise the financial, reputational and PR opportunities of our suite of retail outlets and optimise the model to support growth.
We also seek professionals with experience in technology or data. Your experience might be in IT, applications and systems, cyber security, artificial intelligence, networks and infrastructure. Alternatively you may be
experienced in data protection, data analytics, data governance or digital transformation.
You may have other valuable skills.
Approximate time commitment – a total of three days per quarter minimum.

Every year hundreds of people run, abseil, skydive and eat cake, to raise funds to help Rainbows care for babies, children, young people and their families across the East Midlands. Behind them are a team of dedicated Event Volunteers who are vital in ensuring our events run smoothly.
From local concerts and golf days, to daring abseils and firewalks our events are vital in helping to raise not only funds, but awareness of the work Rainbows Hospice does across the East Midlands and they simply wouldn’t be possible without our enthusiastic volunteers helping on the day. Typical tasks the role could involve:
- Be the Welcoming Face: Collect tickets and entrance fees, welcome guests with a smile and help set the tone for an unforgettable event.
- Get Hands-On: Assist in setting up and taking down equipment and stalls.
- Be a Cheerleader: Join a cheer station and support our runners to the finish line •
- Guiding Star: Assist with marshalling duties, from directing car parking to guiding runners along their routes, ensuring the event runs smoothly and safely.
- Refreshment Hero: Serve refreshments to participants, supporters and staff, keeping everyone energised and ready for action.
- Information Sharer: Actively engage with members of the public and be the go-to person for those seeking information about Rainbows and our important work.
- Entertainment Champion: Run our raffles, tombola’s and other fundraising games engaging participants and members of the public.

Tynedale Hospice at Home is a Northumberland-based charity providing nursing care in the home, Hospital Transport and Family Support Services to people living in the areas of West Northumberland, Tynedale and Ponteland. We serve a community of around 70,000 people across 800 square miles of rural Northumberland. We are looking for Trustees to support and enhance the skill set of our current Board of Trustees and help drive our strategy forward.
We are inviting applications from those with a professional background but would also warmly welcome applications from those offering other skills and experience and for whom this would be their first board role. We are keen to welcome applications from all ages who can offer us something different to maintain board diversity as well as having a strong belief in the mission and vision of Tynedale Hospice at Home.

Devon Air Ambulance Trustees & Devon Air Ambulance Trading Company Ltd Non-Executive Directors
Trustees and Non-Executive Directors are crucial to Devon Air Ambulance and ultimately contribute to helping us save lives.
It’s important that our Trustees and Non-Executive Directors reflect the community that Devon Air Ambulance serves and bring different experiences and backgrounds that add a huge amount of value to our organisation. By having diverse Boards, for both the Charity and Trading Company, we will be better able to make great decisions, be more innovative and creative. DAA has been through a significant period of change in the past few years with becoming a Care Quality Commission regulated independent healthcare provider, welcoming a new H145 helicopter and three critical car cars into service, an organisational restructure, not to mention of course a pandemic that impacted every aspect of our organisation. We continue to plan for growth and development of our service with exciting plans for a new HQ and operations centre that are in the early stages of development.
We are looking for people who can support our journey, be critical friends and help shape our organisation to be fit for the future. We would also like to receive Expressions of Interest for the Chair of the DAA Trading Company Board. Additionally, DAA is particularly keen to have Trustees or Non-Executive Directors who can bring the following areas of expertise: pre-hospital or emergency care, clinical governance, leadership, organisational development, fundraising, property development, finance and environmental sustainability.
It is essential applicants are familiar with or able to learn how to use Microsoft Teams and standard MS Office software to a reasonable level.
What can a Trustee expect from Devon Air Ambulance?
- Training – our Trustees receive an induction and then a phased training programme including governance and finance training. Some training may be role specific.
- Trustee Buddy – you’ll be paired with one of our experienced board members who can offer guidance and support.
- Skills development – you can expect to develop the following skills in your role as a Trustee: critical thinking, strategic planning, good governance practice, charity sector, aviation and health service provider experience.
