The Association is seeking to appoint a lay member to join its Safety, Standards, Environment and Sustainability Committee which plays a key role in the driving the sustainability strategy and workstream for the organisation.
Sustainability is a strategic priority for the Association and we seek to lead the specialty on environmental matters and ‘green’ anaesthesia, working closely with other agencies and stakeholders. Settle is a charity that supports young adults as they leave the care system and move into their first home. We provide intensive one-to-one support addressing practical life skills, sustaining a tenancy and managing emotional wellbeing. Our preventative approach to homelessness helps care-experienced young people to make long-lasting changes and thrive.
We are looking for someone to join our Board of Trustees as our Trustee Safeguarding Lead. This will be someone that is excited and committed to ensuring we have a strong practice of safeguarding across the organisation and can support the Board, DSL and CEO to ensure we have a healthy and reflective safeguarding culture, bringing their own experience to help Settle improve over time.
The Safeguarding Lead will work closely with our DSL to be satisfied that risk is being managed and policies are being followed around this area of high risk. Safeguarding, in fact, is well managed at Settle but the Lead Trustee still needs to maintain oversight to keep abreast of any changes in young people’s needs or organisational requirements as we grow.
This role would support with the following:
- Ensuring the Charity has sound safeguarding policies and robust safeguarding management and reporting systems in place
- Understanding and advising on the safeguarding implications of the Charity’s strategic plan and of any projects and activities it may undertake
- Liaising with and supporting our Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Providing updates to the board; keeping the Board informed about its safeguarding duties and responsibilities
- Ensure the board of trustees have the relevant level of safeguarding training

About Saint Francis Hospice
Saint Francis Hospice is the main local provider of hospice care. The hospice has 18 specialist palliative care beds on its Ward within the Hospice. It also has an active well-being and day therapy service which provides one-to-one clinical and therapy appointments, as well as group wellbeing activities. 85% of our care is undertaken within the community.
These services are for anyone affected by advanced, progressive disease living in any of our catchment boroughs as shown on our map below. All areas are also covered by our hospice 24-hour Specialist Advice Line and by our Hospice at Home team; a team particularly supporting family and friends, and carers in the last few weeks of life.
We have a range of Well-being services including Bereavement Support for adults and Children, and our Orangeline support services for people in need of support during times of loneliness and loss.
The hospice is also the provider of specialist community and crisis support to people at home and in care homes in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and South West Essex, via a nurse-led specialist team. In Redbridge, that community specialist support is provided by the NHS and other care partners. Partnerships between our local Hospital Trusts and the hospice are well established including in the areas of end of life care services, education, out-of-hours consultant cover, shared cover for senior doctors between hospice and hospital and widening access to specialist palliative care services.
The hospice has an Education Centre on site offering a range of bespoke training and development opportunities for our staff and partner organisations. We offer junior doctor training and work closely with Southbank University providing BSc and MSc Palliative care programmes.
Our care strategy focuses on meeting growing demand whilst still delivering care tailored to each individual. It also includes an emphasis on the teaching, training and support of family, friends and our health and care partners and providers.
About the roles
This is an incredibly exciting time to join the hospice, having recently welcomed our new Chief Executive — and with many exciting priorities underway including; a renovation and major upgrade of our ward unit, a continued focus on service quality and innovation, a new people strategy and an ambition to achieve even greater financial sustainability.

Who we are looking for

Commercial/Business Development – For our business development trustee role, we are looking for an individual with broad business, new service development and commercial skills, who can bring new ideas and experience in scaling new service models to our charity and transferable skills to the board.
Fundraising/Income generation – Our fundraising trustee will bring senior strategic fundraising and broader income generation experience, ideally in a charity setting with a national reach.
Healthcare – For this trustee role, we are looking for someone with current knowledge of the health and social care arena – the developments, challenges, wider healthcare market and opportunities, as well as the health economy. Whilst prior experience of end of life/palliative care would be advantageous, it isn’t essential.
For all appointments, we are looking for individuals who can provide trustee oversight on new areas and strategic priorities. Acting as a strong sounding board to the Chair, fellow trustees and the executive team, and able to provide strong strategic advice and overview.

Founded in 2005, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust (RAFCT) is the parent charity of the world-renowned Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), the biggest military airshow in the world. Specific role

Raising Futures Kenya supports young people in Kenya to become self-reliant and live free from poverty, through technical vocational training and business skills courses, and specialised support such as counselling. We are a small, award-winning charity who are actively shifting power to our Kenyan partner NGO.

Opportunity to join Heard’s Board of Trustees
Would you relish the opportunity to learn how storytelling can drive long-term change in areas including poverty, climate change, trans rights, migration, sexual violence & domestic abuse? We're looking for trustees with legal or HR expertise to help us create impact across all these issues and more. We are looking for candidates who are excited by the opportunity to work with a small and innovative charity and who share our passion for the work. You’d be joining an already incredibly engaged board of a growing organisation.
Role: Trustee, in particular trustees with a legal or HR background.
Remuneration: This is an unpaid role, reasonable out of pocket expenses will be covered.
Duration: Trustees stand for terms of three years, with the chance to be re-elected for a further two consecutive terms of three years.
Time commitment: We estimate the equivalent of 5 hours’ time commitment per quarter. The full Board meets once each quarter for an average of 2 hours.

What does the role of Trustee look like?
The role of Trustee is a rewarding, engaging, decision making one where you get to make a real difference, using your skills and experience to help our charity create as much impact as we can.
You will join a dedicated board of trustees who are ultimately responsible for the governance and finances of the charity, working together to make sure that the charity’s resources are used effectively to achieve its aims.
Board meetings allow the trustees to come together to fulfill their legal obligations, as stated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association. We don’t expect you to necessarily be familiar with the ins and outs of these obligations - we will provide you with support and training to navigate your responsibilities. The CEO and Executive Team are responsible for updating and providing the necessary information to the trustees to enable them to make their decisions.
Trustees are not expected to be experts in every aspect of the running of Heard, this is why we have dedicated employees to provide information to the trustees and specialist trustees such as our treasurer who has the financial expertise to guide the trustees when it comes to the accounts.
Our trustees also have the opportunity to sit on sub-committees depending on their areas of interest. Our sub-committees are currently Social Affairs, Finance and Human Resources.

General responsibilities of trustees:
- An understanding of and commitment to the values of Heard, and its vision and mission statements.
- Ensure the operational plan and budget reflect the agreed strategic direction and are appropriate.
- To hold the Chief Executive accountable for the achievement of agreed targets and provide them with regular, constructive feedback on both management and overall achievement.
- Support the CEO when requested, sharing expertise, as a member of a working group or in other appropriate ways.
- Agree the charity’s policies and ensure they will assist in the achievement of the strategic and operational plans.
- Ensure the charity has satisfactory financial control systems and procedures in place, and to review the level of risk annually.
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship and to reflect annually on the Board’s performance and your own performance as a Trustee.
- Attend quarterly Board meetings, read relevant papers and be prepared to make a contribution, working with fellow Board members as a team.
- Safeguard Heard’s reputation, and other intangible assets. Be prepared to act as a spokesperson for Heard, attending events as an ambassador for Heard, to network and promote the work of the organisation.
- Assist with fundraising by speaking, networking and otherwise seeking business development opportunities in conjunction with the CEO.

- Able to demonstrate a good understanding of current developments in HR, staff and development training and recruitment

About Us
In the last nine years, Kandinsky has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting emerging theatre companies in the UK.
We make theatre collaboratively, alternating periods of research and writing with work in rehearsal rooms with actors, designers and musicians. This allows us to make shows on an eclectic range of subjects, united by a theatrical style that’s both inventive and entertaining.
Since 2015, we’ve worked extensively at New Diorama Theatre, where we were one of the first associate companies. Work made at NDT has won OffWestEnd and Peter Brook Awards, toured the UK and transferred to the prestigious Schaubühne in Berlin. We’ve also worked extensively beyond NDT, including on main-stage commissions at the Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester and Schauspielhaus in Vienna. Our next show will open in a major London theatre in 2025.
In the last year, we’ve travelled the UK to develop new work at regional venues, made our first ever adaptation with Central School of Speech and Drama, and created our first show for younger audiences, which toured London schools throughout summer 2023. The company is at an exciting moment as we work to tour work more regularly outside of London, develop our educational work and expand our audiences and participants.
Kandinsky is run by joint artistic directors Lauren Mooney and James Yeatman, who oversee the company both artistically and administratively.
Trustee roles and responsibilities
Kandinsky is a registered charity (no. 1134756) and a Company limited by Guarantee (no. 7169361). Board members have legal responsibilities as a Company Director, including making sure we are compliant with company and employment law, health and safety legislation, equal opportunities and laws around working with children and young people. You will read and sign off on our annual accounts and, together with the other Trustees, make sure we don’t do anything that might place our funds, assets or reputation at risk.
This role has a particular focus on financial expertise: you will have familiarity with budgets and accounts, in particular the annual account requirements of both Companies House and the Charity Commission. You will be able to ensure that we are meeting all legal financial requirements, as well as helping us build strategies and processes that can ensure our ongoing financial resilience.
You will be able and willing to:
· Support the core team to ensure Kandinsky’s financial resources meet the organisation’s present and future needs, and maintain good communication about this with the wider Board.
· Ensure Kandinsky has appropriate financial policies, accounting procedures and controls in place.
· Oversee the preparation and examination of annual accounts.
· Present these accounts at the AGM, drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.
· Ensure that there is no conflict between any financial income and the aims and objects of the charity.
· Ensure Kandinsky’s compliance with appropriate legislation.
Beyond your particular financial oversight, a Trustee’s role is to support the company’s work in whatever way feels appropriate to you and fits with your skills: helping the company grow, raising the profile of our work, challenging us in areas where we can do better or extending our knowledge base. We hope that being on the Board of a growing company will be exciting and that we can work with you to find a mutually rewarding way of working together, one that reflects your skills, experience and interests.
We do not expect our Trustees to donate to the company or ask others to do so. However, if any Trustees are willing and able to help us identify people who might become donors, this could form part of their work on the Board.
Work of a Trustee
The Board meet four times a year. Meetings last approx. 90 mins to two hours. Given recent developments in work/life balance, we aim for this to be a 50% split between online and in-person meetings. These meetings take place in roughly March, June, September and December annually – but exact dates are subject to change depending on rehearsal periods for shows.
We circulate an agenda and any papers prior to the meeting. Because of the company’s size, papers are minimal; these might include minutes from the previous meeting, management accounts and, at the Annual General Meeting, the company’s yearly accounts, to be read and signed-off. We ask Trustees to read any papers in advance of the meeting.
Trustee positions are voluntary. Most Trustees cover their own expenses, but we are committed to building a diverse Board and we are happy to support with expenses where there is need. However, as we are a small company, without any regular core cost funding, this will need to be by mutual agreement and on a case-by-case basis.
We will discuss the time commitment as part of the recruitment process, as well as how we can best support candidates based outside of London and those with caring responsibilities of any kind.

The Organisation:
Sir Henry Irving founded the Fund in 1882 with a number of other actors and stage managers. Over 140 years, Presidents have included Sir John Gielgud, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Dame Penelope Keith. We are thrilled that our Royal Patron has recently been confirmed as King Charles III.
The ABF is a membership charity with over 600 members who are from the acting or stage management fraternity. Members select up to 12 trustees from within the membership to govern and take responsibility for the ABF’s management and administration. Those trustees can appoint up to four additional non-member trustees on the basis of skills and experience they can bring to the charity.
The Board of Trustees delegates authority to a number of sub committees, including Grants & Services, Finance & Operations, and Marketing & Engagement. We ask trustees to join one of these committees.
For over 140 years, the Actors' Benevolent Fund has supported actors and stage managers experiencing hardship due to injury, illness or old age. To date this support has consisted of financial grants and benefits advice, as well as a listening ear. This support is delivered by a small staff team at Adam Street just off The Strand in London.
The charity world has changed significantly in recent years. Society rightly expects charities to deliver their purposes effectively for public benefit. The ABF has been going through a process of reform to maximise the help it delivers and to ensure it is the most effective and impactful steward of its resources.
The charity’s first ever CEO was appointed last summer, and a new Board of Trustees was elected and appointed early 2024 to take the charity forward into the future with a bold new ambition to increase impact.

The Role:
This is an exciting time to be joining the Board of Trustees of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund. The charity has been on a journey of transformation, with a new Board and strategy in place, and we are looking for two additional trustees to join us on this journey. These are incredibly challenging times for the industry, with an increased cost of living combined with a scarcity of funding for the Arts, resulting in fewer opportunities for actors, actresses and stage managers, and research evidencing mental health problems. There is a growing need to respond to the changes within our society and profession, and we are seeking individuals with the passion to join an inspirational team to make meaningful and sustainable change to our community.
We are currently looking for two non-member trustees, each with knowledge and experience in one of the following two areas:
• Investment management
• Strategic marketing and / or brand awareness
Person Specification:

• Demonstrate a passion and commitment to the charity and our vision for its future strategic direction
• Professional knowledge and experience in one of the following subject areas:

Tanzania Development Trust (TDT) works in some of the poorest parts of Tanzania, helping people to lift themselves out of poverty by funding small projects that meet their essential needs.
It sponsors 40-50 small rural development projects p.a. in Tanzania, mainly in the areas of clean water, girls' education and small income generating activities. It also has 3-4 larger, longer-term projects. Its primary function is fundraising, although it provides general project management and business advice where appropriate.
Around half of its income comes from individual donors, and half from Trusts & Foundations. It helps villagers in Tanzania who lack the capacity and language skills to present their projects to international donors, conducting project appraisals and monitoring project outcomes on their behalf. The projects are implemented by the villagers themselves, or by small local contractors.
TDT is run entirely by volunteers (17 regular volunteers in the UK and 16 local representatives in Tanzania). It has no paid staff, premises or overheads, so 100% of all money raised goes directly to projects in Tanzania.
We are looking for additional Trustees who can help us to grow by identifying potential donors, increasing awareness of our activities, and strengthening our project selection and monitoring procedures.
We would like at least one of the new Trustees to help us with fund-raising by piloting more innovative and creative approaches. Experience of living or working in Tanzania is not essential, but to improve the Board’s racial diversity we would like at least one of the new Trustees to be of Tanzanian origin or have strong connections with East Africa.
The Trustees are all unpaid. Although their main job is the overall direction of the business, they can become involved in day-to-day operations if they so wish. We all work remotely, which helps us to engage with our local representatives in Tanzania in everything we do.
The work we do is immensely rewarding. You would be joining a close-knit organisation that is growing and adapting to meet the needs of a changing world, where helping poor people to help themselves is of paramount importance.
