We are looking for new trustees to join our purpose driven and welcoming Board of Trustees in our work to enhance the lives of adults with learning disabilities through music, art, dance, drama, cooking and gardening.

As a trustee, you will be involved in key decision making to ensure this charity is well managed and delivers a good service for our users.  The Board meets 4-5 times a year.  There are opportunities for trustees to become involved in projects and working groups.

Play to the Crowd (Incorporating Theatre Royal Winchester, Hat Fair and Playmakers) is looking for individuals to join our Board of Trustees. Our aim is to build the collective diversity of our trustees to include a greater range of ages, backgrounds and experience.

At this time, we are particularly looking for a Trustee who can represent young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who do, or would like to, access theatre and the arts. Applications from those within that age range will therefore be prioritised on this occasion.

About Oasis Project

Who we are: For 25 years Oasis Project (Oasis) has been delivering services for women with drug and alcohol problems and children affected by drug use in the family. We are an award winning, innovative organisation aiming to empower those affected by substance misuse make choices that lead to change. Alongside drug and alcohol treatment services for adult women and specialist support for parents, we have dedicated services for children/young people affected by substance misuse in the family including therapy and a creche, a Sex Workers’ Outreach Project, a service for women who have had children removed from their care and support for young people new to treatment.

Oasis Project is proud to hold an accreditation as a Trauma Informed organisation. Our Brighton Adult Service provision is registered with the CQC with a rating of ‘Good’ and we are hold an award from the Centre for Social Justice.

Role description

The Board of Trustees has, and must accept responsibility for, directing the affairs of Oasis Project, ensuring it is solvent and well managed, and that it acts within its charitable ‘objects’.

Trustees are expected to support the strategic direction of Oasis Project but are not expected to be involved in day-to-day operational considerations.

As a member of the Board of Trustees:

• Set and maintain the vision and values of Oasis Project;
• Develop direction, strategy and planning and ensure there is suitable structure and resources in place;
• Approve policies and procedures to govern organisational activity;
• Establish and maintain systems for reporting and monitoring;
• Manage risk and ensure compliance and accountability with the governing document, external regulators and the law;
• Ensure that the finance affairs of the organisation are conducted properly and are accurately reported;
• Remain an enthusiastic, passionate, knowledgeable and active trustee;

The Friendly Almshouses on Stockwell Park Road currently supports twenty residents from a rich diversity of backgrounds and cultures to live independently in a safe, supported, community-inspired environment at our almshouses. We are now

Pan Arts is a leading force in using the arts to inspire social change. We are looking for new trustees to join the Board with experience in Press/Media, Safeguarding, Arts Administration and Psychology.

Pan Intercultural Arts uses the arts to rekindle creativity and imagination in people who have been through extreme events in their lives which have reduced those vital elements. Working with survivors of trafficking, refugees, asylum seekers and young people in special education situations, we imagine and explore alternative pathways to change lives.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Pan Board of Trustees. In September 2025 we will be announcing our next 4 year business plan and starting celebrations as we approach Pan’s 40th.

Trustees attend quarterly trustee meetings, assist with fundraising and networking and represent us at events. CHAIRPERSON

Remuneration: The role of Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed (e.g. attending the LNBP Annual AGM which is currently held during the Crick Boat Show at which LNBP has a presence).

Objective

The Chair will hold the Board and Executive Committee to account for the Charity’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. He or she will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the other trustees and Executive Committee members.

• Provide leadership to the charity and its Board, ensuring that the Charity has maximum impact for its beneficiaries
• Ensure that Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Charity

• Act as an ambassador for the charity, and contribute to LNBP newsletters
• Facilitate change and address any potential conflict with external stakeholders

Efficiency and Effectiveness

• Chair meetings of the Board of Trustees effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision-making process
• Ensure that Trustees are fully engaged and that decisions are taken in the best, long-term interests of the Charity and that the Board takes collective ownership

Person Specification

To fulfil this role it is NOT a requisite requirement that the person has detailed knowledge of narrowboats or the canal system.

As we have experienced growth and are launching our new strategy, a number of our Trustees will come to the end of their terms in the next 18 months we are keen to build on their legacy and succession plan. Initially, we’re looking for three new exceptional trustees to join our Board during this exciting period of growth and innovation. • Finance & Accountancy: We’re seeking an experienced finance professional to join our board and, in time, chair our Finance & Resources Committee when our current chair of the committee, Richard Paul comes to the end of his term later this year. You’ll bring senior-level financial expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to provide strategic financial oversight during a period of significant organisational growth. Experience of charity finance would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Clinical Professional with experience in addiction: We’re looking for a clinician, such as a psychologist or psychiatrist, with experience in addiction to join our board. This trustee will subsequently chair our Service Delivery & Governance Committee when our current committee chair, Raj Boyjoonauth completes his term at the end of 2024. You’ll bring deep understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance, and service development in addiction treatment settings.
• Business Development: Our third trustee will bring commercial acumen and business development expertise to support our continued growth. You’ll have experience in developing and implementing growth strategies, ideally in health, social care, or related sectors. We’re particularly interested in individuals who understand both commercial imperatives and social impact, and can help us think strategically about sustainable growth while maintaining service quality. This person could bring experience in the charity or commercial sectors.

The board of trustees is the governing body of Dove Cottage.  Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that the charity achieves its core objectives as set out in the governing documents.  They oversee the overall management, finances and administration of Dove Cottage and ensure that the charity is successfully implementing a clear strategy in line with our vision. Trustees are also there to support and constructively challenge the Chief Executive Officer.

In particular, we are looking for a Company Secretary as well as trustees with financial oversight skills to succeed to Treasurer, however these are not the only requirements, applications for general trustee positions are also welcome.
