Andrew Mercer, the current Secretary General and Chief Executive, will be retiring in 2025 after 12 successful and rewarding years with the charity.
Job Summary:
As Secretary General of the NRA and Chief Executive of the National Shooting Centre Limited, the NRA’s commercial enterprise subsidiary, you will be responsible for leading the management and operations of the organisations, as well as implementing the overall vision for the charity working with the Trustees. The role involves a high level of responsibility, with pivotal decision-making that affects the future of the charity and its beneficiaries.
Working closely with the NRA Board of Trustees and NSC Board of Directors you will develop the long-term strategy, and business plans of both entities and ensure they comply with the law and regulations applicable to each, but in particular the relevant Charities legislation.
As the main driver of the organisation, the Secretary General is ultimately accountable to the NRA’s council of trustees and works closely with them to achieve the charity's objectives.
Within this role, you will be expected to oversee all operations, including financial management, programme development, and stakeholder engagement. The Secretary General and Chief Executive will also be expected to develop and approve strategies for the charity and communicate them to internal and external audiences.
Acting as ambassador for the NRA and NSC, you will provide and be the public face for campaigns and build relationships with stakeholders in national and local government, the wider shooting community, media and business.
You will play a key role in motivating and engaging staff, membership, volunteers, and affiliated organisations.

Main Duties:
- Lead the development and execution of strategic plans, aligning objectives with annual budgets.

The successful candidate will need to meet the application requirements in line with relevant firearms and health and safety legislation, including police background checks and medical assessments.
- Home Office Authorities: Maintain permissions for specialised firearms use.
- Member Director, British Shooting: Represent the NRA in the Olympic and Paralympic Shooting activities.
- Council Member, British Shooting Sports Council: Represent NRA interests in the wider shooting community.

About James’ Place
James’ Place Charity was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts, but didn’t find it.
James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. James’ Place offers men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.
The first James’ Place opened in June 2018 in Liverpool, the first of its kind in the UK, and has to date supported more than 2,300 men experiencing suicidal crisis through our innovative and safe therapeutic intervention. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centre and in our landscaped garden, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families.
In 2022 we opened a new centre in London and in early in 2023 we launched an appeal to raise over £10m to fund three more centres across the country. Our third centre opened in Newcastle at the beginning of 2024, and we are currently raising funds to open a James’ Place in Brimingham.
The Fundraising and Communications team
We are a small team with big ambitions. The team comprises a Head of Fundraising and Communications, two Fundraising Managers, a Senior Communications Manager and a Senior Outreach Officer. We are recruiting two roles to the team: a Fundraising Executive and a Fundraising and Communications Assistant.
Fundraising Executive
We are looking to recruit a Fundraising Executive to support our fundraising and communications activities and be part of our small and dedicated team. This role is a new post in the team, so it is a great time to join the charity as we invest in our fundraising and communications team to maximise our income and realise our ambitions.
About You
Having previously worked in the charity sector, you will be passionate about our cause and committed to supporting us in raising the money required to meet our ambitions.
With an eye for detail, strong analytical and organisational skills, you will be able to undertake research on prospective corporate, major, trust and public donors and produce high quality written reports to support funding bids.
Using your ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively, you will support fundraisers by providing them with timely and accurate information and manage a portfolio of smaller trusts and foundations, which will also include stewardship.

Fundraising and Communications Assistant
In this varied and interesting role, you will:
· Manage the receipt, recording and acknowledgement of donations received by the London centre and national fundraising activities, working with other centre staff on the development of administration procedures.
· Ensure the CRM database is kept up to date and support the fundraising team to produce high quality reports.
· Support the Events Manger in the delivery of fundraising and engagement events across the organisation.
· Support the Fundraising Managers in arranging meetings and visits with donors and prospective donors.
· Use digital media strategy tools to generate relevant and varied digital content across chosen channels.
· Create regular communications, reports and updates for fundraisers to tailor for their individual donors.

Role Overview:
This role will deliver a range of fundraising activities, creating a great supporter experience for our participants ensuring our supporters are at the heart of everything we do.

You will analyse and produce evaluation reports reporting against budget, interpreting these results to inform the future planning of fundraising activities.

Background: Muslim Charities Forum (MCF) is the UK network for British Muslim-led Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations. MCF seeks to support, connect, and represent these organisations so that they can all experience the blessings of the collective. Through our network we support almost 300 charities and community organisations.
We aim to collectively build a more accountable, transparent, and efficient British Muslim-led Voluntary and Community Sector, to improve our ability—both as individual organisations and as a sector—to contribute to a more just and sustainable world. MCF has a small team, but our impact is far-reaching. Following a period of expansion, MCF is seeking an innovative, motivated and passionate individual to lead on its advocacy capacity building work, sector-wide advocacy work, and delivery of its strategic policy work.
The primary purpose of the role is to build capacity in Muslim-led Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations with differing scales of operating and programmatic focus areas. There will be a particular focus on those Muslim led organisations based in London.
You can expect to be leading on some of the areas as a priority in this role:
• Engaging in outreach with Muslim-led Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations.
• Producing relevant policy and advocacy capacity building materials suitable for those involved in Muslim-led Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations.
• Delivering capacity building engagements with those involved in Muslim-led Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations.
• Hosting roundtables and other group engagements to learn more about the policy and advocacy priorities of Muslim-led Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations.
• Strategically Managing a programmatic budget to outsource elements of MCF’s policy and advocacy capacity building initiatives.

As this Individual Giving & Insights Manager, you will:
- Lead the Individual Giving programme worth £1.2m per year, working alongside their Individual Giving Officer to drive fundraising success.
- Develop and launch a new Membership product, designed to attract and retain connected supporters.
- Grow the Legacies programme in partnership with the Legacy Officer, enhancing supporter engagement.
- Craft supporter journeys that build deeper relationships, increase engagement, and boost income.
- Use data driven insights to refine targeting, optimise campaigns, and steer the success of their initiatives.
- Implement Innovation and test new approaches, particularly in cost effective digital channels, to secure sustainable growth for their cause.
What Makes You the Ideal Candidate?
- Strong experience in planning and executing direct marketing campaigns for supporter acquisition and retention.
- Skill in developing strategic, data driven supporter journeys using digital and email platforms.
- Proficiency in collaborating with both internal and external partners, including marketing agencies, to deliver effective campaigns.
- Experience in budget management and campaign evaluation, utilising key performance indicators (KPIs) for continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of current data legislation, especially GDPR, ensuring our approach respects privacy and ethical standards.

As Parliamentary Manager – House of Commons, you would be a key part of a team of driven, passionate people who are working together to deliver our Free to Be Strategy (2021-25). You'll also have experience in drafting timely and accurate policy briefings, a good awareness and understanding of current political issues in the House of Commons, and the ability to mobilise MPs on key issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities and present our priorities effectively.

About the role:
The Fundraising Manager is responsible for growing revenue in the UK, with a strong focus on the Movember campaign. You will focus on both acquisition and retention of Student Ambassadors and University Mo’s.
The role will be expected to deliver on annual revenue targets and will work collaboratively with other teams at Movember to do this.
You will also work on cross-team projects to create remarkable experiences for our supporters which keep them coming back to the charity.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Develop the fundraising strategy for the University audience and delivers this to agreed timescales and revenue targets
- Provide reporting on opportunities and work in progress as required
- Identify and develop new opportunities within their assigned community portfolio
- Develop and manage a pipeline of high value fundraising prospects
- Actively build and maintain a portfolio of high value relationships
- Develop and execute a personalised, multi-channel supporter journey to your assigned contacts both in and outside of campaign
- Work with the global teams to ensure that the fundraising proposition is translated in to meaningful and effective ‘tools’ (online and offline) which drive great engagement and fundraising
- Manage the Student Ambassador Programme ensuring Ambassadors are empowered to fulfil their roles and have a remarkable experience
- Attend Fundraising events where we are required to provide a remarkable experience
- Support the Senior Community Fundraising Manager and team members to deliver growth and revenue targets for Fundraising
For this role, you’ll need:
- 3+ years’ experience in fundraising roles
- Proven track record in managing successful fundraising activities and meeting targets
- Experience of managing projects from start to finish
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of stakeholders
- Strong organisation skills, the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Adept at team working, collaborating effectively with colleagues across the organisation
- Sound knowledge of fundraising law and best practice

- Experience in fundraising with universities
