About the role

• Hours per week: 35 hours, usually between 9:30 – 5:30. One hour for lunch.

We’re looking to recruit a Senior Communications and Engagement Officer to join the friendly CharityComms team to help us plan, organise and deliver communications and engagement outputs that support the needs of members, and drive organisational development.

A core part of the job will be overseeing the CharityComms’ social media work, by managing our channels, creating content, and delivering on our social media strategy to engage people and increase our brand profile.

Other key tasks include content creation and commissioning projects for our website, and having a supporting role in other general communications, engagement and marketing activity and administration as needed. This is a great opportunity for a strategic thinker with a passion for creative, impactful communications, who is ready to demonstrate their initiative.

Location 

Remote, with the option of occasional working in our central London office, and as needed for in-person events (full travel costs will be covered for any in-person events). 

About CharityComms 

CharityComms is a thriving membership network of communications professionals working in UK charities. Our amazing community is made up of more than 750 charities, adding up to almost 12,000 people. 

We work with our members and the wider communications community to raise the standard of charity communications, to enable them to deliver their world-changing missions more effectively. From our range of services and events to our best practice guides, reports, support for professional development and web and social media content, we represent, support, inspire, connect and inform our members and the wider charity communications community. 

We are a small, friendly team of 13, working closely together to achieve big things for our members and the sector. In 2021 we won Team of the Year and have recently been shortlisted for Best Professional Body or Learned Society at the Memcom awards. 

Purpose of the role 

You will be working with the Communications and Engagement team to promote CharityComms and what we offer, through the creation and development of effective and engaging content, and community and stakeholder engagement. 

Communications and content are at the heart of this role, and we’re looking for someone with demonstratable experience in strategic, content-based projects, including commissioning and editing content from external stakeholders, social media management and content creation, and community management. 

Social media management and community engagement 

You will own the social media management of our channels, maximising their performance and supporting stakeholder engagement with our work. You will:

• Deliver and adapt a creative and engaging social content strategy with the Communications and Engagement Manager that meets our wider business aims and objectives. 
• Craft key organisational messaging into engaging social media content and posts to generate conversations. 
• Be responsible for creating, scheduling and managing social content using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and our management tool, Sprout Social. 
• Responsible for maintaining upkeep of social analytics reporting, as directed by the Communications and Engagement Manager, to ensure activity supports wider marketing, communications and engagement strategies. 
• Continuously improve our social media presence and brand profile, including recommending and piloting new approaches to content and channel development to increase community engagement and meet targets. 
• Manage and monitor forum and social media groups and act as facilitator of conversations where needed, working closely with relevant colleagues and stakeholders. 
• Grow and deliver ways to increase engagement with new and existing audiences, including regular engagement activity on member’s posts (sharing, liking) and ensuring our member network is up to date within these channels. 

Content commissioning and creation 

Working proactively and collaboratively with the Communications and Engagement Manager to deliver our content plans. You will:

• Deliver and adapt our communications and engagement strategy to meet our objectives.
• Play an active role in content creation and marketing activity – including designing, producing and editing creative content i.e. graphics, photography, videos. 
• Develop, coordinate and update long-form pieces for our website, i.e. best practice guides and templates. 
• Have remit to commission content projects – using own initiative to develop initial pitches relevant to charity communicators and oversee the commissioning process. 
• Work with external providers where necessary to develop resources and creative materials where required. 
• Stay up to date with current communications, marketing and content trends, to advise the wider CharityComms team on best practice regarding content and campaigns, including accessibility. 

Website and email comms 

Working collaboratively with teams where needed or taking key roles to:

• Edit, upload, and publish content on the CharityComms website as directed. 
• Work with the Communications and Engagement Manager to continuously deliver on website strategy activities.
• Work alongside the Communications and Engagement Manager to deliver eNews campaigns. This could include commissioning, writing, research, proof-reading, scheduling, maintaining lists and reporting on performance as needed. 
• Actively provide feedback to the Communications and Engagement Manager and Head of Membership and Insight on planned activities and make recommendations for improvements. 

Other activities 

• Ability and confidence to deputise for the Communications and Engagement Manager where necessary.
• Analyse data for reporting and make recommendations.
• Work across the organisation to support communications and marketing activity to ensure consistent messaging, tone and content. 
• Provide communications support across key organisational projects, and on any other activity, as reasonably requested, that will generate social and/or financial return on investment for CharityComms. 
• Support the admin of the comms inbox, responding appropriately to requests or flagging for colleagues.
• Keep up to date with sector news, events and activities. 
• Attend CharityComms and sector events, where appropriate, either in-person or online.

Salary: Grade 8: £66,679 - £88,977. Appointments for this role will generally be made at £80,000 per annum

An exciting opportunity to lead a high-performing fundraising team and help shape our new fundraising campaign to improve patient care and reduce ill health across communities.

As Director of Development, you’ll lead our efforts to bring major donors, trusts/foundations and corporate partners into long term relationships of trust with the Royal College of Physicians. Your core responsibility will be to encourage and motivate the fundraising team, including line management of the Deputy Director for Corporate Partnerships and the Head of Philanthropy. You’ll also cultivate your own individual portfolio of international donors and find opportunities to engage face-to-face with prospective supporters at the major and principal gift level.

You’ll be trusted to work autonomously to develop and implement our fundraising strategy and work with our development board on planning for a new fundraising campaign, following the successful close of our £10 million Giving Health campaign. You will help achieve our strategic aim to increase our income from major gift fundraising and, depending on results, you’ll also have the opportunity to grow the size of the fundraising function.

You’ll report to and work closely with the CEO, Chief of Staff, and have the full support and involvement of the President, College Officers and Trustees.

Purpose and scope

Key responsibilities

• Shape the overall strategic goals of a new multi-year fundraising campaign and ensure that we deliver our ambitious income generation targets on an annual basis
• Work closely with the president, trustees, chief executive officer and other senior colleagues and volunteers to develop and implement the RCP's fundraising strategy
• Enhance our fundraising profile to highlight the contributions of donors and the impact of funded projects at all levels
• Refresh our fundraising comms strategy and produce high quality, in-depth digital and hardcopy materials
• Plan an annual programme of engagement between the President/CEO and international major gift prospects, including from the 20% of our membership based outside of the UK
• Facilitate the work of development committee members in advising on strategy, monitoring progress towards agreed targets, introducing new prospects, and helping with cultivation
• Support the development of fundraising skills among colleagues - both your direct reports, the Deputy Director for Corporate Partnerships and the Head of Philanthropy - and senior colleagues involved in making asks
• Maximise the fundraising potential of the RCP’s heritage collections and grow the fundraising income of our museum, archive, and library
• Ensure due diligence on prospective donors and adherence to internal processes and procedures for fundraising, reporting, financial management and information management
• Oversee the existing awards programme, which is administered by the development administrator

About you

• A proven track record of effective fundraising leadership
• Substantive major gift experience, including securing six figure gifts from either individuals, trusts/foundations or corporate partners
• Influencing and negotiating at the most senior levels externally and within an organisation; able to describe and communicate compelling propositions and to 'ask' for the gift
• Track record of developing a fundraising strategy over time, demonstrating innovation and creativity as well as knowledge and experience of successful programmes from peer organisations
• Highly developed stakeholder management skills with proven ability to create, develop and sustain trusted and effective relationships with major philanthropic partners and potential partners
• Highly developed networking skills to build and sustain a network of supporters for the RCP
• Track record of successful line management that builds and motivates a successful team
• Strong skill set in decision making, understanding complex environments, strategic thinking and an exceptional ability to communicate

Part 1: Role Purpose:

Street Child is looking for a dynamic, confident individual with a passion for communications and a drive to make a difference.

We need a Global Communications Officer who is adaptable, personable, has an attention to detail and is ready to tackle any task with gusto. We are looking for someone who can drive forward our owned channel development, grow our website traffic and social media channels whilst maintaining strong platform engagement rates to generate fundraising.

Our ideal candidate will also create fresh campaigns with market cut through, develop clear, creative collateral, support our growing global advocacy efforts and identify opportunities for telling stories from Street Child’s programmes around the world. An eye for design and some basic editing skills is a bonus. 

Part 2: Key Responsibilities:

1. Social channel content creation, maintenance and development

• Lead on the development and maintenance of the Street Child social channels, pushing forward our social strategy with a relentless focus on growth and engagement. Develop, create, and manage engaging content for our social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok), including identifying strategies for viral and timely content.
• Craft compelling copy and visuals that align with our brand voice and promote Street Child programmes around the world.
• Identify and leverage emerging trends and opportunities for Street Child’s social media presence.

2. Day-to-day website content updates & maintenance

• Lead on the day-to-day content updates and maintenance of the Street Child website, working to a turnaround time of 48 hours for business-as-usual activity.
• Work with external web developers to ensure Street Child’s website is optimised for raising awareness of our work, engaging supporters and raising funds.
• Develop high-quality written and visual content optimised for web, including managing our blog to ensure a steady output of content on Street Child programme areas, including primary education work, education in emergencies, and humanitarian programmes.

3. Communications resource for global fundraising teams

• Support the strategic development and communications needs of European and North American entities, ensuring a strong cohesive global voice for Street Child.
• Support global fundraising teams on all communication resource needs, including but not limited to event publicity/promotion, key appeal content and community resource generation.
• Support the creation of content/collateral for fundraising teams.
• Support the development of corporate communications, including but not limited to the design of impact reports, event promotion and publicity.
• Work with colleagues in other fundraising teams to establish communication calendars and plan for their respective areas of work, identifying communication needs and deadlines ahead of time.

4. Global advocacy communications support

• Support the delivery of global advocacy events, such as UNGA and World Economic Forum.
• Support corporate communications strategies around global advocacy events, such as UNGA and World Economic Forum.
• Craft compelling advocacy messages for Street Child-owned channels, working closely with our global programmes experts to position the organisation as though-leaders in the global education sector.

5. Wider MMC support

• Support the delivery of key content and assets for media.
• Support the contracting of in-country photographers and videographers.
• Support the individual giving donor mapping and communications development, helping to deepen and develop our donor relationships and increase unrestricted fundraising.
• Able to represent Street Child appropriately both internally and externally.
• Carry out all reasonable requests that are within the broad remit of the role.
• Support the delivery of the Annual Report.

ABOUT US

The Scottish Rainforest Centre (SRC) was established as a Scottish charity (SCIO) in 2022 to develop a Rainforest Centre. The SRC will be an education and accommodation hub providing access and educational and research opportunities for people to visit the rainforest and get involved in its preservation and restoration.

THE ROLE

The SRC’s aim is to become a centre of scientific excellence and research within the rainforest zone, supporting scientists, researchers and volunteers working on rainforest regeneration and providing an affordable base for their field work and research. Embedded in the local community, the SRC will work closely with project partners, providing opportunities for local people, schools and disadvantaged groups to provide skills development and training opportunities.

The SRC Development Officer will work closely with and report to the SRC Managing Trustee to realise the aims and objectives of the Centre and liaise closely with other project staff on the National Lottery Heritage funded Building capacity to save Scotland’s Rainforest project.

As part of the development stage for the Building capacity project you will develop an events and engagement programme which provides opportunities for users to engage with the SRC, particularly schools and disadvantaged groups. You will work with local communities and partner organisations to develop rural skills development and learning opportunities, and build the confidence of practitioners and group leaders to use the site for education purposes.

The position will be home based with a willingness to travel.

This is a part-time (22.5 hours per week), 15-month, fixed-term position. Should our funding bid for the subsequent five-year ‘delivery’ phase be successful, we hope the CDO will remain in post to support the delivery of these plans.

THE CANDIDATE
You will have experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders including community organisations and are comfortable collaborating and engaging effectively for different outcomes e.g. learning, consultation or facilitation.

You will have the confidence to liaise with environmental organisations, academic institutions and other stakeholders to help develop monitoring and research opportunities at the SRC.

You will be able to confidently organise and deliver a range of events from online webinars to community gatherings; have working knowledge of using social media for marketing, capturing interesting content and writing engaging stories, and you’ll be happy self-managing a diverse and varied workload.

Plus you’ll have experience working as part of a project team, supporting funding bids, budgeting for, and reporting on the impact of your activity. Oh and have a genuine interest in Scotland’s rainforest of course!

A full UK driving licence is required so you can travel across the west coast when required. Access to your own vehicle would be ideal.

1 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1         Office Management

• Oversee the day to day running of the office, including communication with enquirers and supporters.
• Ensure office is compliant with Health and Safety requirements. Ensure compliance with data protection requirements.

About the role

The Head of Fundraising at InFocus is our senior fundraiser. They report to the Director of Income Generation and Business Development (IGBD) who has a varied portfolio that also includes marketing and communications, catering, charity retail, and strategic partnerships. This means that you will be part of a wider team (and all the support that comes with it), but will still have overall responsibility for setting the direction of our fundraising activity.
This appointment comes at a time when we need to consolidate our existing unrestricted fundraising activities and look towards preparing a substantial capital campaign to develop our site.
Our charity receives a large amount of statutory funding and has a relatively small pool of regular supporters and donors. It’s essential that the Head of Fundraising can take a strategic approach to growing income, but particularly through researching and writing quality applications to charitable trusts and foundations (which has typically made up a large part of our fundraising mix).
A Fundraising Relationship Officer is in post and is managed by the Head of Fundraising. They will need to be supported to make sure that we continue to grow our emerging individual, community and corporate fundraising streams. 

About you

You will have practical experience in trusts and foundations, and be prepared to step into a leadership role in a small but friendly team. You’ll need to be a confident communicator with donors and supporters, as well as a diverse staff team spread across our large campus at the edge of Exeter (and six charity retail stores).
