The RAF Charitable Trust is looking for someone with vision and ambition to lead the organisation. The need for our work is clear. Technology and aviation continue to advance at an unprecedented rate. The IET estimates that the skills shortage in STEM jobs costs the UK economy £1.5bn a year, and there are over 173,000 STEM vacancies. The UK Commission for Employment and Skills stated in 2022 that 43 per cent of STEM vacancies were hard to fill due to a shortage of applicants, leaving tech skills in even higher demand. The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Diversity and Inclusion in STEM also notes significant inequality in high skilled and graduate level roles for those from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds. RIAT’s ongoing success enables RAFCT to be increasingly ambitious regarding its impact through the inspiration of young people: 1. By 2026, RAFCT will have delivered high-quality interventions to over 500,000 young people (measured from 2022).

2. From 2026, RAFCT will deliver high-quality interventions to at least 500,000 young people every year.

3. These interventions will either be via:

a. New programmes unique to RAFCT

b. Existing programmes scaled with funding from RAFCT

To achieve this ambition, we are looking for a highly experienced Director to continue the Charity’s trajectory of growth. The successful candidate will work with the RAFCT Chair and Board of Trustees to set, implement, and then assure the delivery of the Trust’s strategy. The Director will lead the Trust’s charity team, and work closely with the Trust’s trading company, RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises Ltd, the RAF, and existing and new delivery partners and charities.

This is a role that requires pragmatism, vision, diplomacy and flexible and creative thinking. The successful candidate will be a strategic and credible leader with strong financial acumen and a successful leadership track record. They will possess an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset, and be able to connect ideas and people. They will have a proven record of collaboration while providing constructive challenge when appropriate, and they will have good experience of measuring impact in a national STEM setting. They will also ensure high operational standards while continuing to promote a transparent, collaborative and values-driven culture within the Charity team.

The purpose of the role is to plan and deliver strategically the fundraising required for the ongoing success of NCO, enabling this important national music organisation to develop and deliver its mission.

Main Responsibilities 

Strategy and Planning

Working with the Chief Executive and Development and Communications Committee to set and lead on the development of NCO’s development strategy, setting fundraising targets in line with strategic objectives.

Oversee all fundraising activity and report to the Chief Executive, NCO Board and Finance Committee on progress towards income targets.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, represent the Development function to ensure full account is taken of development potential whilst contributing towards the leadership and strategic direction of NCO.

Individual Giving

Lead on re-establishing NCO’s Individual Giving programme, drawing on the potential pipeline of current stakeholders (eg parents and alumni) and delegating to/working with the Development Team in its successful delivery.

Lead on new mid/major donor giving and relationships including legacies, personally managing a portfolio of prospects and donors.

Support the Development team to lead in the delivery of NCO’s annual giving programmes, ie Friends and Patrons.

Lead on individual campaigns, working collaboratively with the Development team to maximise opportunities to engage with new supporters through events and matched funding initiatives (eg The Big Give).

Work with the Chief Executive and other senior staff to ensure the continued engagement and support of the NCO Board.

Trusts and Foundations

Lead on fundraising from Trusts & Foundations and other grant giving bodies (excluding statutory funding).

Research and cultivate existing and new funders, working with the Chief Executive, Board and the Development Team to initiate new partnerships and maintaining systems to ensure that those partnerships are successfully managed and sustained.

Prepare compelling major grant applications to secure new funding with sound attention to detail, and work with colleagues by leading and advising on other vital grant applications undertaken by members of the Development team, sharing best practice in fundraising to develop the organisation’s skills.

As part of the Development team, provide appropriate and timely monitoring information to trusts and foundations, as required by their conditions of support including, where appropriate, organising events and visits.

Corporate Fundraising

Lead the Development team on stewarding existing and cultivating new corporate sponsors and ensuring benefits and recognition are delivered across NCO’s marketing channels.

Statutory Funding

Support the Chief Executive and wider team to ensure that NCO fulfils its quarterly and annual reporting requirements to Arts Council England and the Department for Education and in the creation of new funding applications including as part of the next ACE Investment Review.

(NB: The day to day management and reporting requirements of NCO’s NPO and DfE grants will be managed by a newly appointed Business Administrator and overseen by the Chief Executive).

Organisation and Management

Line manage NCO’s Development Manager through individual objective setting and performance management, regular 1:1 meetings and identification of training needs.

Empower the Development team by ensuring they have regular opportunities to develop their skills and experience across different areas of fundraising and through training whilst supporting them wholeheartedly in their professional development.

Inspire and lead the Development team, and set an example, on the application, implementation and adherence to all NCO policies and procedures.

Support the Development team to lead on the development of NCO’s CRM System (Beacon) in specific relation to its fundraising functions, in line with the Data Protection Act.

Maximise the potential of Gift Aid from all donations, supporting the Development team to ensure all donations and payments received are appropriately logged, accompanied by appropriate paperwork and in line with annual audit requirements and submitted in a timely manner.

Produce Development reports for quarterly Board and Finance Committee meetings, attending online and in person as required.

Undertake research and maintain a high level of knowledge about trusts, foundations, individuals, and statutory funding to inform planning.

Represent NCO at conferences undertaking public and media presentations, attending conferences and events and lobbying forums as appropriate

Head of Development and Income

We are looking for a highly skilled leader with exceptional capabilities in income generation, writing, budgeting, people management and strategic planning.

This is a full-time, remote working role.

Position: Head of Development/Income Generation

We are looking to appoint an experienced and collaborative fundraising manager to lead our small fundraising team at Ely Cathedral. This post plays a significant role in sustaining and developing the income the Cathedral needs, adhering to the highest ethical standards and in line with the law and good practice.

Duties include nurturing and managing existing relationships with supporters and donors and developing new income streams using a range of approaches, ensuring that these are integrated sensitively, with the mission and work of the Cathedral in mind.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in fundraising from a variety of sources in a small or medium-sized charity setting, experience of managing others, and have experience of raising funds for capital projects between £100,000 and £2million.

Experience of fundraising within a church setting or the heritage sector, possession of a fundraising qualification from a recognised body such as the Institute of Fundraising, and experience of leading a step-change in the income raised by a fundraising team are not essential but would be an advantage.

MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Membership engagement

• Manage and build relationships with prospective, new and existing EIDA members.
• Manage the member experience, including responding to queries from prospective and existing members, acknowledging receipt of new member forms and overseeing follow up contact with new and existing members.
• Identify key trends, gaps and topics, as well as opportunities for cross-pollination and member introductions.

Membership growth

• Drive membership growth; proactively identify and develop projects for member recruitment, promoting EIDA to prospective and lapsed members.
• Develop opportunities to widen our membership market for example through industry-based forums, groups, conferences and fairs, trade unions, health & wellbeing and diversity & inclusion communities.

Partnership development

• Develop a good understanding of the national and regional landscape of domestic abuse support available to employers, to signpost members effectively to appropriate partners.
• Formalise partnerships with new and existing members, including conducting due diligence and putting in place partnership agreements.
• Attend events to develop new contacts and seek new opportunities for EIDA to engage in.

Data and systems

• Oversee membership information on EIDA’s database, generating reports on interactions and statistics.
• Perform membership analysis and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain routine data cleansing, to ensure member and partner data is accurate, complete and up to date, ensuring all data is handled in line with GDPR.
• Support the team to keep accurate membership engagement records on the CRM system.

Other duties

• Participate in training, regular supervision and appraisals.

• Carry out general administrative duties as required to support the running of the charity 

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Good academic performance in English and Maths

This role represents an opportunity for an experienced individual with the right talents to shape and develop the vision and strategy for the charity and the evolution of fundraising within the Trust.

We are looking for a fearless implementer of transformational change; an experienced and dynamic individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, experience of building brand and developing awareness. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate using a variety of media to promote and help our charity grow are a must.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Trust Charity will act as lead in all fundraising activities and, as such, will be a highly developed specialist in fundraising techniques. They will be expected to be pro-active in identifying and developing new opportunities in order to maximise appropriate charitable fundraising throughout the Trust. They will be the lead specialist on high profile fundraising appeals and, by sensitive and appropriate means, procure charitable income which meets agreed financial targets and timescales. This will require excellent communication, persuasion and negotiation skills.

The successful applicant will design, implement and manage an integrated business development and fundraising strategy comprising of high-net worth, corporate, trusts & foundation, social & impact investment, membership activity to agreed income & expenditure targets, utilising a range of fundraising products and methodologies which maximise cost benefit returns.

The post holder will make effective contribution to reaching the Trust charity’s vision and strategic objectives and raise the profile of the Charity both internally and externally within the trust and wider Alliance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact, and the Charity’s expert, for all new fundraising offers and initiatives to ensure that, before accepting them, such offers are appropriate for the hospital’s capital planning requirements, risk profile and public relations protocols.
• To develop the Trust Charity brand and corporate experience so that the charity becomes the preferred partner of choice for the donor community.
• To design, implement and manage capital and revenue appeals in support of major charity build projects to agreed income and activity targets, in association with appointed consultants.
• To ensure all activities are conducted in full compliance with charity law, fundraising legislation and best practice, data protection and compliance, adding value to and enhancing the Trust Charity brand.      
• Review and maintain appropriate fundraising policies and protocols which conform to the requirements of the hospital’s internal and external auditors, charity law, data protection and the Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Conduct.
• Act as key point of contact for NHS charities together, maintaining accurate contact details for the trust and ongoing membership.
• Build and maintain relationships with Charity leads in neighbouring trusts and other NHS organisations.
• To develop a Trust Charity communications plan, which involves both internal and external communications to facilitate the efficient working of the Charity, utilising all media to further develop the Trust Charity brand.
• The post holder will be required to use their gravitas and specialist expertise to influence a range of senior colleagues on a wide range of complex communications issues.
• To establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with all stakeholder groups, internally and externally, at all levels.
• To develop, implement and oversee the Trust Charity annual grant application programme ensuring an equitable and transparent process which supports and empowers those clinicians/managers/staff that apply for funding.
• To assemble and publish an annual impact report which notes funds dispersed and the impacts upon users including health economic indicators.
•  To oversee the publication of monthly management accounts and of quarterly financial reports to the Charitable Appeal Committee.
• Be a participative member of the Charitable Funds Committee, including the preparation of reports and briefings.
• Advise the Charitable Funds Committee on all matters pertaining to fundraising activities, fundraising schedules and budgets and spending plans of individual funds.
• Through the Charitable Funds Committee, build a working relationship with the Clinical Divisions, key departments and individuals within the Trust.
• Build a good understanding of local healthcare delivery issues, priorities and plans, including central capital and business planning and make judgements on what options are appropriate for fundraising appeals.

The Corporate Partnerships Manager will support KSS's fundraising with corporate partners, businesses, and business-related organisations across all regions (Kent, Surrey and Sussex). The role will help to drive current activity towards its full potential and find ways to grow corporate fundraising through strong relationship management and stewardship.

Main Responsibilities:

- Effectively manage corporate relationships to ensure that these organisations are well nurtured and supported, and that they receive adequate recognition for their contribution towards KSS's continued operation.
- To retain all corporate partners where possible and increase income from our current donors year on year. By having a 12-month plan for key partners and a plan/journey for how to elevate low level donors.
- To create collateral and fundraising mechanisms to support the 12-month plan in Canva and with the assistance of the marcomms team such as: fundraising calendar, flyers for events, t-shirts, seasonal fundraisers e.g. at Easter Guess the eggs in the jar.
- For key partners create a yearly 1 pager impact report of their donation and a more general report for other partners.
- To plan and deliver at least two networking/stewardship events a year at Redhill and Rochester for current donors with the support of the events team where required.
- Oversee all day-to-day activity with our corporate relationships, ensuring that activity is effectively coordinated and that broader teams support delivery (e.g. volunteer development, events and supporter experience).
- Proactively research and recommend opportunities for KSS to increase the value of corporate relationships including (but not limited to) donations, staff fundraising, payroll giving and participation in events.
- To own and manage the monthly visits to Redhill and to plan visits for key partners separately to these days.
- To be responsible for and own the sponsorship budget sourcing sponsorship for KSS events from existing donors and new donors.
- Support colleagues with seeking corporate sponsorship and involvement in KSS owned events.

About you:

- Experience of providing excellent customer service to a portfolio of customers, donors, stakeholders or corporates.
- Experience of writing cases for support, producing fundraising materials and creating account plans.
- Adaptable, tactful and diplomatic when speaking with members of the public or corporate supporters.
- Ability to work outside of core hours including weekends as and when required.
- Display a keen interest in the work that KSS does, and come up with ways to support activities.
