Temwa is seeking a dynamic Fundraising & Development Manager to lead and expand our charity's fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate will be experienced, confident, and honest, with a deep passion for international development.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Overseeing the fundraising team, including the Programme & Trust Officer who supports grant applications and reporting, and the Fundraising & Events Coordinator who supports individual giving, events, and trading.
- Managing the Communications Officer to provide information for PR, marketing, and promotion of fundraising activities, as well as to highlight Temwa’s work in Malawi.

- Managing the daily operations of the UK fundraising office.
- Creating and updating the fundraising strategy, including planning and forecasting fundraising activities.

We have a highly skilled team of 30 full-time employees in Malawi implementing this work, based out of two offices in the Northern Region. Our UK office in Bristol comprises a small fundraising and operations team of seven staff (two team members are full-time, all other team members are part-time), 3-5 regular volunteers and interns, and a wider family of volunteers and supporters.
Temwa UK has an experienced and high functioning board of Trustees who are very engaged. The board member who oversees the fundraising portfolio is very active, providing support to the Fundraising & Development Manager and the fundraising team as a whole.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Managing the fundraising strategy and donor relations with oversight of the fundraising office
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate the charity’s income generation strategy, ensuring targets are achieved.
- Align the fundraising strategy with the communications and marketing strategy.
- Act as the organizational expert on income generation, leading the team to expand all relevant fundraising streams.
- Maintain and enhance current income streams, including trust fundraising, corporate fundraising, high value donors, and individual giving.
- Maintain relationships with key donors and their specific requirements.
- Collaborate with the Programme Advisor and Programmes Director in Malawi to align community needs with donor priorities.
- Lead, research & review the opportunities to apply for institutional funding with the Programme Advisor.
- Manage donor relations and communication with the Managing Director, Programme Advisor, and UK fundraising team.
- Contribute to donor reporting and distribution donor reports, and ensure compliance to donor-relevant obligations with the Programme Advisor.
- The Fundraising & Development Manager will report directly to the MD and Board of Trustees.
2. Providing leadership to and managing the fundraising team
- Develop, coach, inspire, and motivate the team to achieve their objectives and grow their skills.
- Conduct regular one-to-ones with direct reports, ensuring effective performance management with timely appraisals.
- Ensure team members have clear work plans and objectives.
- Champion best practices in particular with use of the database, ensuring all legal and compliance standards are met and, where possible, exceeded in fundraising and marketing activities.
- Recruit key fundraising team members as needed.
- Support the fundraising team in designing and managing effective marketing and communications strategies.
- Facilitate effective internal and external communication, sharing information, successes, and best practices.
3. Growing income streams
- Lead and manage all fundraising areas in the UK office, ensuring targets are met.
- Develop and manage comprehensive budgets, providing performance information to the Senior Management Team and Trustees.
- Ensure effective management of the donor journey for all contacts.
- Research and develop business cases for new income generation areas to drive sustainability.
- Implement and evaluate new income generation projects.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with significant supporters, making effective asks to maximize income.
- Adhere to best practices and embed a culture of learning within the organization.
- Develop and implement a strategy to increase corporate fundraising through the Temwa Carbon Balance Programme.
- Grow and develop SME and corporate partnerships with support from the Managing Director and Fundraising Trustee.
- Develop and implement a strategy to increase corporate funding, individual giving, institutional funding and trust & foundation funding.
- Lead on all grant applications, including trust & foundation and institutional.
- Manage individual giving campaigns and online activities with support from the fundraising team.
- Source individual stories and images, brief internal and external teams, and write copy as needed.
- Ensure adherence to the individual giving strategy to increase income in this area. ?
4. Senior management
- Collaborate with the management team to reach key audiences and achieve strategic goals.
- Provide strategic direction for fundraising and communications, nurturing team members to develop their skills.
- Ensure all parts of the organization understand income generation and fundraising.
- Represent the charity externally.
- Provide advice and guidance to colleagues and Trustees.
- Play an active role in updating the organization’s strategic plan and shaping the charity's future direction.
· Serve as the deputy to the Managing Director when the MD is in Malawi or on annual leave.
5. Policies and procedures
- Develop and improve relevant policies for the organization.
- Evaluate and suggest improvements for systems used to support fundraising
- Create procedures to enhance the efficiency of fundraising activities.
Experience, Qualifications, and Requirements:
The ideal applicant would have the following attributes
· Experience of working in a senior fundraising role
· Certificate or diploma from the Institue of Fundraising or similar
· Track record of setting and achieving fundraising income targets

· Experience of working within small and large NGOs or charities

Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012. We are an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity.
DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.
Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD. We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. Job Description
This role plays a key part in advancing the fundraising of Duchenne UK to enable more investment into research, advancing treatments and supporting the DMD community. A core part of this will be building relationships with key supporters, including our incredible Family and Friends Funds, corporate supporters and community of fundraisers.
You will be central to the development and delivery of key events and campaigns throughout the year to achieve ambitious fundraising targets. You will have budget management responsibilities and provide insight into activities to drive improvements and further success in future years.
The role will contribute to overall fundraising growth; ensuring the guiding engagement and fundraising principles are delivered, and that all fundraising delivers an exceptional and remarkable donor experience to which Duchenne UK prides itself.
Fundraising and business development

- Key relationship manager for Duchenne UK Family and Friends Funds, engaging them through fundraising, supporting third party events and providing regular project and charity updates

- Oversee management of regular giving, including working with the Communications team to promote this type of giving. Provide stewardship to Regular Givers, with support from the Fundraising Assistant.
- Lead the identification and development of new income sources with the support of the Fundraising team to increase donations, improve the profile of Duchenne UK and enhance our reputation within the donor community; including corporate partnerships, fundraising campaigns, third party activity, challenge events, regular giving and legacy
- Represent the organisation at meetings with donors and external events
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Support the development and implementation of the new Sales Force database (launching July 2024)

- Review fundraising and engagement for each Duchenne UK event and campaign with the support of the Fundraising Team.

For almost 40 years Somerset Environmental Records Centre (SERC) has been the focal organisation for holding data on wildlife sightings, types of habitats and geological information for Somerset.
This is an exciting time for SERC as we drive forward in a mission to have at least 30% of land managed positively for nature by 2030 (30 x 30). We are looking for an experienced and ambitious manager to implement the strategy and grow and manage the SERC Team, whilst positioning SERC as the ‘go to’ ecological data evidence provider for an increasing range of stakeholders in the county.
Job Description – Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Strategy and Business Development:
The SERC Manager will be part of the Operational Management Team of the Somerset Wildlife Trust, supporting the Senior Leadership Team through clear strategy and business development by:
- Developing and overseeing the strategic growth, business planning and operational management of SERC.
- Ensuring SERC is financially sustainable and growing by seeking income generating opportunities to develop SERC business, identifying additional markets and services, and developing and implementing a Business Plan.
- Positioning SERC as the ‘go to’ ecological data evidence provider for the county and leading the marketing and communications to drive this forward.
- Ensuring SERC has capability and resource to achieve commitments through Service Level Agreements, ensuring that SERC is having a positive contribution to planning and policy across the county.
- Overseeing the development and delivery of the Somerset State of Nature Report, ensuring the team can analyse and interpret data to establish trends and identify where action for nature recovery needs to occur as the process for monitoring delivery of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Somerset.
Responsibility 1: Data Analysis and Services
Manage a robust data collection and interpretation service by:
- Establishing customer requirements, including researching and monitoring of users’ needs.
- Ensuring high quality information underpins data searches to enable effective planning decisions
- Overseeing the work programmes in data capture, entry, management, analysis, interpretation and dissemination to support evidence driven decision-making.
- Negotiating SLAs with key existing and new service users.
Responsibility 2: SERC Team Management
Achieve the aims of the Business Plan agreed with SERC Executive Group and Somerset Wildlife Trust through:
- Managing the SERC team in the setting of objectives, considering succession, priorities and work programmes to ensure high quality, efficient and timely delivery of projects and services to users.
- Developing and applying Local Records Centre protocols and policies, meeting the requirements of data users and providers, as well as professional codes of conduct and the promotion of national standards, through achieving ALERC accreditation.
- Keeping abreast of and contributing to political and technical developments in biodiversity data management and make presentations of SERC’s work and national policy development to appropriate audiences.
- Receiving and resolving complaints and representations about SERC services from data users and providers.
- Setting and managing budgets, risks and issues.
Responsibility 3: Develop though Advocacy, Influence and Delivery
Be a specialist and nurture strong relationships by:
- Developing excellent relationships with national and local recording communities and support them to contribute high quality useful data that informs an evidence-led strategy to improve Somerset’s natural environment.
- Coordinating the SERC Executive Group to deliver and monitor an effective strategy for the Records Centre that provides usable data for planners, Service Level Agreement holders and working with Somerset Wildlife Trust, in the provision of a conservation strategy for the county.
- Setting data access parameters to secure the SERC business model while making data as open access as possible.
- Developing secure funding and commercial income streams, and manage SERC project-based work, meeting the aims of an agreed Business Plan and Somerset Wildlife Trust’s strategy.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

- Lead data gathering and design-thinking workshops with internal and external stakeholders (i.e. potential consumers) to feed into the research, design and development of new products or services and/or the expansion of current products or services.
- Test prototypes or early-stage versions of product/service with potential consumers and stakeholders and iteratively refine based on feedback and testing.
- Lead analysis of qualitative and quantitative data collected through research, design and development stages (including monitoring and evaluation, and consumer testing feedback) and summarise into recommendations presented to Leadership Team / Growth Team to assist with the implementation of proposed R&D projects.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop communication and marketing products (i.e. emails, flyers, consent forms, presentations) to support R&D activities.
- Collaborating with services to ensure social impact other tangible outcomes are being measured
- Budget and forecast new research plans and developments.

Skills and Experience:

Fundraising Overview
- Develop, deliver, and monitor a fundraising strategy for The Cinnamon Trust.

Database Management

This is a 12 hour Supported Housing service providing 15 supported housing flats for clients experiencing mental ill health. The service is tailored for each individual with the ultimate goal to help them manage their accommodation and assist them with reintegration back into mainstream housing within 2 years. We also offer a community support service for a fixed period of time. This is designed to help those already living in their own homes receive assistance with day-to-day task and activities.
Stowmarket
This 24 hours Supported Housing service is a mental health, supported housing and community based service, working to a recovery model. We provide a range of support services for people with mental ill health to access in their local community, including outreach support, peer support and supported housing. We have been operating in the area for a number of years and offer a staffed service to our residents aged 18 and upwards.
About you
Experience working as an Administrator is essential. You’ll need to be proactive and adaptable, with excellent communication, administration, finance and minute taking skills and experience, along with experience of completing contract management data reports and of maintaining and reviewing office systems and procedures.

On 1st June 2024, Richmond Fellowship, part of Recovery Focus, a national group of charities highly experienced in providing specialist support services to individuals and families living with the effects of mental ill health, drug and alcohol use, gambling and domestic violence merged with Humankind to form a single organisation that provides the joined-up mental health, housing and drug and alcohol support we’ve all known has been needed for decades. In October 2024, Humankind will be renamed to reflect the new organisation.
ACT (or Aldates Community Transformation Initiatives) is a welcoming community that includes many with lived experience of prison, street homelessness or addiction. Through street and prison outreach, community meals, mentoring and housing, we help people rebuild their lives after some of life’s toughest experiences.

ACT has a strong connection with St Aldates Church which supports the ministry with people, practical support and use of office and gathering spaces. The Head of Charity is key to leading the outreach work of St Aldates.
As a city centre church, working alongside people who are poor or marginalised is a key part of St Aldates’ ministry and is carried out largely through ACT.
We are excited about what God is doing in our midst. We are seeing people come to faith in Jesus on a weekly basis, and we are pioneering new ways of discipling people to make a difference in every area of their lives. We are passionate about connecting with and supporting people who are street homeless and those in or leaving local prisons through our ACT ministry.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Crucial to the success of ACT is the Head of Charity, who provides leadership and vision, ensures that its activities are underpinned by prayer, and that this work remains central to the ministry of St Aldates.
As the Head of Charity, you will drive the charity's mission and vision alongside the Board, ensuring our community receives the best possible support.
You will have a heart for those who have been marginalised, and experience of running a business or charity. Your role will be to lead staff and volunteers in the vision and manage funds and key projects. Partnering with others across other charities, key stakeholders and donors you will become a strong ambassador for the charity.
