Sands exists to save babies' lives and ensure that anyone affected by pregnancy loss or baby death receives the care and support they need.

We are looking to appoint 3 new members of our Board of Trustees. 

As a Trustee, you will provide strategic oversight and leadership, ensuring that Sands pursues its stated objectives through its vision and mission.

Additionally, you will ensure that Sands operates in accordance with the principles of good governance, complying with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations. 

We are looking for two people with current or recent experience in

• Commissioning background ideally with local authority experience; experience and understanding of social care ideally in the voluntary or public sector; or
• Academic, research, policy background in the care environment; 

As a trustee, you'’ll bring broad  experience to the role, identifying strategic risks and proposing effective and practical solutions. An ability to grasp the essence of complex situations, to challenge the management team or fellow board members and to contribute constructively to their resolution are also required.

Specific role

We are seeking a Trustee with a Finance specialism to join our Board of Trustees. This individual would provide oversight of our financial affairs, ensure that our plans are sustainable and that our charitable operations are suitably assured.

• Professional accounting, finance or similar qualification with a strong track record of financial management and reporting.
• Knowledge and understanding of financial planning and budgeting and best practice in this area. An understanding of the voluntary/charity sector, along with knowledge of the financial framework for charities would be helpful.
• Strategic financial thinking with experience in establishing and setting out strategic goals and direction in organisations.
• Ability to identify and translate financial risks and opportunities, to enable the board to make informed decisions.
• A track record of commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

The London Basketball Association (LBA) provides sustainable and regular participation in the sport of basketball whilst aiding and encouraging a variety of career paths for young people living in London’s most deprived and isolated communities. 

What is LBA looking for?

The London Basketball Association is pleased to announce that an opportunity has arisen for a Board of Trustees Chairperson to join our intensely committed organisation.

The Board of Trustees Chairperson is a pivotal role within the organisation, tasked with holding the Board and Executive Team to account, to ensure the Charity hits its mission and longer term strategic visions. This is achieved by providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. Key Responsibilities

Leadership

• Provide leadership to the LBA and its Board, ensuring maximum impact for its beneficiaries.

• Ensuring Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities and holding each Trustee to account where necessary.

• Ensure that the Board fulfils its duties to ensure sound financial health of the charity, with systems in place to ensure financial accountability.

• Regularly review, collectively, ‘major’ risks and associated opportunities, and ensure systems are in place to take advantage of opportunities, and manage and mitigate the risks.

• Ensure the Board operates within its charitable objectives, and provides a clear strategic direction.

• Act as an ambassador for the cause and the charity and where necessary act as a spokesperson for the organisation.

Governance

• Appraise the performance of the Trustees and the Board on an annual basis.

• Ensure that the Board of Trustees is regularly refreshed and incorporates the right balance of skills, knowledge and experience needed to govern and lead the charity effectively.

• Develop the knowledge and capability of the Board of Trustees.

• Ensure that the governance arrangements are working in the most effective way.

• Encourage positive change and where appropriate, address and resolve any conflicts within the Board.

• Work within any and all agreed LBA policies.

Effectiveness

• Chair meetings of the Board of Trustees effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision making process.

• Ensure that Trustees are fully engaged and that decisions are taken in the best, long-term interests of the LBA and that the Board takes collective ownership.

• Work closely with the CEO to give direction to Board policy-making and to ensure that meetings are well planned, meaningful and reflect the responsibilities of trustees.

• Facilitate change and address any potential external conflicts of interest.

• Establish and build a strong, effective and a constructive working relationship with the CEO, ensuring they are held to account for achieving agreed strategic objectives.

• Liaise with the CEO to maintain an overview of the Charity’s affairs, providing support as necessary.

• Conduct an annual appraisal and remuneration review for the CEO in consultation with other Trustees.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Knowledge

• Broad knowledge and understanding of the voluntary sector, in particular within the Sports sector, and current issues affecting it.

• Strong understanding of funding, fundraising strategies and grant management.

• Financial management expertise and a broad understanding of charity finance issues.

• Good understanding of charity governance issues.

Skills

• A strong and visible passion for basketball (or other sports) and commitment to the LBA, its strategic objectives and, ultimately, its cause.

• Exhibit strong interpersonal and relationship building abilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role.

• Strong tact and diplomacy skills, accompanied with the ability to listen and engage effectively.

• Ability to commit time to conduct the role well, including travel and attending events out of office hours.

We are seeking people to join our Board of Trustees to offer strategic support to Home-Start Elmbridge - a charity committed to promoting the welfare of families.

With our Head Office based in Walton on Thames, Surrey, our charity offers practical and emotional support to families across the Borough of Elmbridge who are struggling to cope for a variety of reasons. We’re there for parents when they need us the most, because childhood can’t wait.

The role of Trustee is an important one – bringing the requiredgovernance and strategic guidance that every charity needs to run successfully and ethically. Home-Start Elmbridge Trustees typically attend a two-hour Board meeting every six weeks and provide strategic and governance support as and when required. We currently have six Trustees plus a Chairperson and would like to increase this to a minimum of eight Trustees.

Alex TLC provides invaluable support and information to people affected by leukodystrophy.

Leukodystrophies are genetic disorders that mainly affect the white matter of the central nervous system (i.e. the brain or spinal cord). There are more than 100 different known types of leukodystrophy, including some so rare they only affect one or two individuals.

Established in 2004 we are an internationally recognised centre of excellence and the only UK charity providing support and information to people affected by any of the leukodystrophy conditions worldwide.

About The Mare and Foal Sanctuary

The Mare and Foal Sanctuary rescues horses and ponies that have been abandoned, neglected, or abused, ensuring that horses and ponies have a sanctuary for life. Founded on the principles that horses and ponies, as sentient beings and long-standing companions to humans, have intrinsic value and purpose, the charity believes they deserve kindness and care. Since being founded by Rosemary Kind in 1988, the charity has rescued 1,075 horses and ponies. 

With a current annual income of circa £7m, the Sanctuary relies entirely on donations and legacy gifts to sustain its work and has a loyal supporter base of individuals and organisations, as well as a passionate and talented team of 130 employees and 87 volunteers. The charity's objectives include rescuing and providing care for horses and ponies in need, advancing public education on equine welfare, and offering equine-assisted learning and therapeutic activities to enhance the lives of children, young people, and adults with various difficulties.

Rescuing and providing care

The charity's rescue and lifelong care are focused in the Southwest of England, and as part of the National Equine Welfare Council, the Sanctuary collaborates locally and nationally with the RSPCA and other equine welfare charities. The charity's four peaceful sanctuaries in Devon provide expert care for around 150 horses and ponies with specific needs, while a network of knowledgeable "Sanctuary at Home" carers looks after approximately 430 horses and ponies. 

Advancing public education

Support and education to equine-owning communities are provided through the Welfare Outreach and Advice team, offering non-judgemental advice and formal welfare interventions when necessary. The Sanctuary educates people on the physical, psychological, and social needs of horses and ponies based on current veterinary and equine science.

Equine-assisted learning

Human-equine interaction is offered through equine-assisted learning, equine-assisted wellbeing, and equine-assisted activities with rescued horses and ponies. Participants relate to the horses' and ponies' life stories, bringing hope and a renewed sense of meaning and direction to their lives. The organisation is fully inclusive, offering both a person-centred and equine-centred approach.

The Board of Trustees is collectively responsible for ensuring that the charity delivers its purpose, and together hold the charity ‘in trust’ for current and future beneficiaries, in particular to:

Terms of Appointment

This is a voluntary role with no renumeration. However, reasonable expenses are reimbursed for any travel associated with attending Board meetings and Trustee development sessions. The charity can also arrange to pay travel expenses in advance, including booking and paying for your train travel and any overnight accommodation if required.

Board meetings are held quarterly, typically at the sanctuary's office at Honeysuckle Farm in Newton Abbot, Devon, or occasionally at other sanctuary sites. These meetings often include a Trustees' dinner the evening prior to the Board meeting to facilitate team building and informal discussions. Additionally, Trustees may receive invitations to attend various events at the sanctuary's other locations throughout Devon and Cornwall during the year. Committee meetings are held remotely, with each committee meeting twice per year. All trustees will be expected to sit on one committee.

The Treasurer is an officer of the Trustee Board and not a paid member of staff.  The purpose of the role is to ensure that the charity’s finances and supporting financial control systems are robust and comply with relevant regulations.

The role works closely with the Chair of the Trustee Board, the Chief Executive and the volunteer Financial Accountant.

The Treasurer is responsible for chairing the Finance sub-committee, including preparing the agenda and arranging for the production of the minutes of each quarterly meeting,

Treasurer main duties and responsibilities

Financial accounts

· Every quarter, review entries on Xero made by volunteer Financial Accountant (

· Review quarterly management accounts prepared by volunteer Financial Accountant before submitting report to the Trustee Board

· Ensure that year-end accounts are prepared to in compliance with SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) Accounting for Charities and submitted by the deadline to Charity Commission and Companies House, and make arrangements for them to be independently examined as required

Budgets and planning

· Prepare annual budget and obtain Trustee Board sign off each March

· Review and update forecast of annual outturn

Financial control and compliance

· Comply with the charity’s financial policies and procedures

·Liaise with the CEO to prepare costings for any funding bid applications

· Ensure capital expenditure authorisations and limits are followed, and prepare expenditure justifications where appropriate

· Ensure that money received is spend only on the purposes for which it was given and ensure that reports and accounts demonstrating this are submitted to funders

· Submit regular financial reports to national Citizens Advice as required, and meet all financial obligations of the Citizens Advice Membership scheme

Relationship with Trustee Board

· Provide financial advice as required to the Chair and Trustee Board

· Explain, guide and advise the Board on the key assumptions and financial implications of the budget, operational and strategic plans

· Keep the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities

· Ensure that all Board members have a clear understanding of the accounts presented at meetings

· Ensure that the organisation has an appropriate reserves policy and a realistic budget that meets the service’s needs

· Provide input to the risk register process

· Present accounts at the Annual General Meeting in an accessible way

· Act as key contact on the charity’s bank accounts

· Transfer money between savings bank accounts to optimise interest income

· Maximise the interest on savings by comparing available interest rates

· Authorise salaries and PAYE payments to HMRC

South London Gallery (SLG) is recruiting for Trustees.

About The Role 

The South London Gallery is seeking individuals to join our Board of Trustees. We are interested in hearing from people who are passionate about contemporary art and community engagement and would like to contribute their expertise to the governance of the South London Gallery on a voluntary basis.

The role of a trustee can be demanding but ultimately rewarding, as your contribution will help to make positive changes to people's lives.

We are looking for trustees from a variety of backgrounds, including those with clinical experience, faith leaders, local government officials and business professionals, among others.

Out There is a small charity based in Greater Manchester that supports families and children impacted by the imprisonment of a loved one. We provide long term emotional and practical support to 170 families a year. As well as our core work we operate a Charity Hub where we work in partnership with other charities, offering support to other mebers of the community. We are now looking to complement our committed Trustee Board with Trustees with a background in Finance or Management/Governance. Help us to continue our work to support families
