Communications Officer

We are looking for a Communications Officer to support our team in Scotland to respond to Scottish media enquiries, delivering campaigns to influence health policy and support our fundraising and engagement comms activity.

The Role

Reporting to the PR Manager, the role will help deliver key media campaigns that call for change to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Working as a team to deliver a proactive, effective and 24/7 press office, building relationships with identified media and opinion formers, and ensure timely media responses based on organisational and reputational priorities.

· Working with the Campaigns and Public Affairs team to deliver influencing activity to key health board stakeholders, Stroke Association campaigners and the general public.

· Working with the Stories team to identify and deploy the real stories of the stroke survivors we work for.

About You

You will have experience of:

· Generating media coverage, ideally in the charity sector.

· Using media to deliver calls to action to the public (eg donating, fundraising, campaigning) and/or decision makers (eg policy change).

· Planning, executing and monitoring media plans against identified briefs and overarching objectives.

· Working alongside Policy and Public Affairs colleagues.

· Creating, posting, and managing social media content.

· Reputation management and working with crisis communications teams.

· Working with colleagues from across an organisation to identify media volunteers (case studies) and developing stories to deliver media coverage.

the3million is looking for a new Community Organiser to help us build the power of EU citizens in the UK and of their non-EU family members, working alongside two other Organisers in our team and the members of our EU Citizens’ Campaigns Network

Since Brexit, EU citizens in the UK and their family members have been brought under the Hostile Environment. the3million has been providing information to EU citizens and has continuously advocated for a fairer immigration system, especially in making the EU Settlement Scheme more accessible to all.

We provide a platform for EU citizens to become politically active and use their voices to advocate for themselves. The Community Organiser will be part of a team to create opportunities for EU citizens to have increased capacity to engage in activism and lead the change they want to see in the UK, their home.

This role is at an officer level and suitable for people who are looking for their first paid role in Organising, but have had some grassroots experience, even if on an informal or voluntary basis. You can expect to be mentored by an experienced Community Organiser and thereby learn a lot while on the job. More experienced candidates are also welcome to apply.We are currently in the process of applying for funding to extend this role. If we are successful, the contract will be extended by 2 years and we will work with the successful Organiser on a progression route, reviewing the job holder’s salary level after they have been in the role for 6 months. 

Position type: Part time, between 3 to 4 days a week, depending on the successful candidate’s preference

Duration: 4 months (September - December 2024) with possibility of a 2 year extension from January 2025, subject to funding

We are the leading organisation representing EU citizens and their non-EU family members in the UK. Our vision is a world where our communities can thrive, reach their potential and have an equal voice in UK society. 

Our work ranges from monitoring the implementation of the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement, advocating for the integration of EU citizens throughout all sections of society, informing people of their rights, promoting access to justice, and giving EU citizens a voice in British society to change the narrative on migration as a whole. 

We are a grassroots and non-partisan organisation, working with a variety of stakeholders, from MPs to NGOs, legal advisors, the media and community leaders across civic society on specific issues affecting migrants’ rights. **Duties and responsibilities **

1. Co-lead the3million’s “EU Citizens’ Campaigns Network” 

• Working with the Community Organiser - Campaigns to recruit more members of the EU Citizens’ Campaigns Network by regularly reaching out to relevant communities and booking 1-1 meetings with key community leaders;

• Working with the Community Organiser - Campaigns to support and guide our existing Network members made up of over 40 community leaders who have a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience in campaigning, developing their confidence and ability to become effective change-makers and encouraging them to take coordinated, strategic actions to advance our campaigns;

• Co-facilitate monthly Network meetings: setting agendas, facilitating Breakout rooms, taking minutes and following up with Network members on their agreed actions;

• Support the3million’s campaigns by supporting our Head of Policy and Advocacy on our MP-facing work in Parliament and our Communications Manager to ensure that our campaigns are featured on our social media, newsletters and clearly communicated to key stakeholders such as partner organisations in the migration sector and to key community leaders on the ground

2. Relationship-building and in-person workshops

• Rolling out a series of “listening sessions” and “Know Your Rights” workshops with community groups across the country: liaising with relevant community leaders to visit them and their communities, this may include working on Saturdays (and taking time off in lieu during the week) and running in-person sessions. You will receive guidance on the format from the Community Organiser - Campaigns but will be the main person delivering such sessions on the ground.

3. Professional learning and development

• Taking a proactive approach to your learning and development towards becoming a confident and versatile Community Organiser and Campaigns specialist, you will have regular check-ins with your line manager (Community Organiser - Political Campaigns) and engage in an ongoing process of evaluation, thereby reflecting on the work you are carrying out to draw out learning and being willing to stretch yourself. Depending on your current level of experience as an Organiser, you may be set assignments such as reading recommended articles/books, listening to relevant podcasts, attending specific training sessions, etc.

• A passion for people power, social justice and holding decision-makers to account

• A passion for supporting grassroots communities, such as small charities, faith groups, schools and other civic associations, to take action on the issues affecting them

• Experience of organising people/communities to achieve change, whether in-person at a local level or online - this could be as part of a trade union, a student group, an activist group, a community-based civic institution, political party, etc. It does not need to have been as part of a formal, paid role, but could be experience that you gained in an informal setting and/or as a volunteer.

• Experience of leading or of working with others to deliver and/or facilitate events such as workshops or group meetings in an engaging manner, with attention to administrative detail

• Ability to actively listen to people and identify their motivations for campaigning, encouraging people to speak up for themselves and building relationships based on trust

• Motivational attitude to encourage people to take the first step in social activism

• Strong oral and written communications, including the ability to write clear emails with compelling calls to action and the confidence to speak in public settings

• Strong administrative skills, time management and attention to detail, including the ability to set meeting agendas, keep records of volunteers/partners and to follow up on agreed actions

• Interest in the issues affecting EU citizens in the UK, as well as wider migrant rights’ issues (e.g. citizenship, visas, hostile environment policies)

• Experience of working with people from different backgrounds, including different language skills, cultures/ethnicities, ages, etc. Comfortable interacting with people who hold different opinions with a view to build mutual understanding and solidarity.

Role

This is a new position. Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, you will be involved in all the duties required to maintain a complete general ledger and financial records and support financial planning/forecasting.

International Accountant Responsibilities

— The responsibilities of the International Accountant will include, but are not limited to:

International Accounting Operations

• Develop a General Ledger Chart of Accounts which supports our current grantmaking operations with the flexibility to accommodate various directions in our growth, allows easy consolidation with sister entities, and is IFRS compliant to allow us to provide regulatory and audit reporting in various jurisdictions.
• Implement optimal Chart of Accounts and processes, evaluating current and alternate accounting systems as needed and developing interface processes to existing systems as needed (HRIS, Payroll, Grants Management System, expense reporting) as needed.
• Perform duties necessary for the timely and accurate verification and recording of financial and investment (MRI/PRI) operations including general ledger, entries and reconciliations, investment portfolio tracking and transactions, international payroll, benefits and taxes.
• Work closely with Human Relations Specialist on payroll and benefits administration processes.
• Collaborate with senior management team, Operations Manager and others to determine an optimal process for reviewing and approving expenses.
• Audit corporate credit card(s).
• Identify institution and global consolidated reporting needs with senior management team and agree schedule and distribution for regular financial reporting.

Budgeting and Financial Planning

• Assist in preparation of the annual organisational and department budgets.
• Monitor and provide quarterly budget performance reports and analysis to organisation and departments with close cooperation to develop and implement measures to minimize variance.
• Assist staff to self-manage budgets.
• Support financial planning and forecasting including developing scenarios for growth.

Cash Flow Management

• Reconcile annual and quarterly projected expenses and cash flow requirements and coordinate with family office for redemption decisions.
• With Operations Manager and Human Relations Specialist, maintain and improve policies and organization discipline for accurate and timely processing of accounts payables, employee expense reports, travel guidelines, time reporting, etc.

Regulatory and Audit Compliance (initially in support of regulatory reporting through the family office)

• Strengthen financial systems integrity and controls according to IFRS, tax and regulatory measures and foundation policies.
• Build systems for timely and accurate provision of data and provide direct support for annual audit and tax filing.
• Work with external advisors, as needed, to ensure compliance with relevant country and international regulatory requirements in areas of taxes, documentation requirements, payroll and benefits.

General and Other

• Develop and manage relationships with accounting related service providers as needed including in-country and global accountants, auditors, payroll and tax experts.
• Develop and maintain an asset inventory/schedule.
• Support for MRI/PRI activities as needed.
• Continually improve internal financial processes.
• Potential management of banking relationships, international wire transfers and/or other payment systems.
• Occasional travel as required for the execution of duties.
• Other duties are consistent with the accountant’s role and experience as the foundation continues to evolve, or from time to time as prompted by institutional priorities.

Qualifications

— The successful International Accountant candidate will likely reflect much of the following profile:

• Several years of progressively responsible professional experience in international accounting, ideally in an international organisation and / or in auditing / tax consulting.
• Accounting experience in philanthropy or non-profit.
• Experience in multiple tax jurisdictions and working in multi-currency environments.
• In-depth IFRS knowledge.
• Excellent, hands-on knowledge of web-based systems including accounting (current platform is Xero), and office suite platforms (proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred).

About us

Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. Since the 19th century, our crews have been risking their lives to save those who are in danger of drowning.

Volunteering is at the heart of the RNLI, and we have over 35,000 volunteers in a variety of roles from operational crew and lifeguards to water safety and fundraising volunteers. This is a great time to enjoy the RNLI People Team as we regionalise the delivery of HR and volunteer service to the 6 RNLI regions.

Home based within the region, with regular travel to the regional office in Poole and other sites across the area, you will report to the Regional People Lead and work closely with the People Advisor. Understanding the opportunities within your region, working with the local leadership team and your peers in the wider People Team you will be responsible for supporting great ‘people’ service and delivery.

This role is home-based and includes extensive travel across the region, often outside of regular business hours. Occasional travel to our Support Centre in Poole is also necessary. You will also be required to support a volunteering helpline service for approximately 2 weeks a year (until 8pm weekdays and 10am – 4pm weekends).

Your Role

We are seeking to recruit a Volunteering Adviser to join our team in the South East area. For us, this reaches from Swanage to Southend -on- Sea also includes London.

As a Volunteering Adviser, you will work closely with a range of stakeholders across the organisation, supporting the development of volunteering across the South East region, and the wider RNLI.

This will include:

• Implementation of initiatives to improve the volunteer experience.
• Developing sustainable opportunities along with taking a proactive approach to how we support and manage volunteers.
• Providing staff and volunteers with expert advice and guidance in all aspects of volunteering including areas such as recruitment, retention, problem solving and recognition.
• Supporting local implementation of the volunteering strategy.
• Assisting with the development of volunteer management toolkits and support managers in the use of these.
• Delivering volunteer management training workshops to diverse groups of volunteer managers both in person and virtually.
• Being an ambassador for volunteering and ensure it is championed at all levels.
• You will also be required to support a volunteering helpline service for approximately 2 weeks a year (until 8pm weekdays and 10am – 4pm weekends).

About You

To be our Volunteering Adviser you will need:

• Extensive volunteer management experience.
• Confidence in delivering face-to-face and virtual workshops.
• The ability to manage a complex workload.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Stakeholder Communications Officer to join our Communications and Engagement Team.  You will seek out, capture and write compelling stories reflecting activities across our organisation and you will also work with our Education Directorate as a communications business partner.

Premier League Stadium Fund Technical Manager (Midlands and East of England)

£37,000 - £45,000 per annum (dependent on relevant experience and skills) plus generous benefits

The role will be home-based, but geographically will be required to cover clubs and leagues based in the Midlands and the East of England.

Regular travel to clubs’ stadiums will be required, as well as occasional travel to our office at Wembley Stadium in London.

We currently have a vacancy in the Premier League Stadium Fund for a Technical Manager to support the Stadium Accreditation Programme and to support the assessment of applications to  the Premier League Stadium Fund.

About the Premier League Stadium Fund

The Premier League Stadium Fund is fully funded by the Premier League and is delivered and administered by the Football Foundation. It provides financial support to clubs throughout the football pyramid. As well as continuing to fund ground-grading requirements, the Premier League Stadium Fund includes a Club Development Fund to help clubs grow and enhance sustainability.

The Premier League Stadium Fund awards capital grants to clubs to support improvement of their stadium facilities for players, supporters and officials. The role

Working as part of a team of Technical Managers, you will support our Stadium Accreditation Programme and will lead on the technical/construction aspects of Premier League Stadium Fund grant projects.

Stadium Accreditation

You will support the Stadium Accreditation Programme by helping establish new ways of working following the initial assessment of approximately 1,000 stadiums across England and Wales. You will have responsibility for a set of leagues and clubs across the Midlands and the East of England and you will work with them to ensure their compliance while also delivering against the objectives outlined within the new Premier League Stadium Fund Facilities Strategy.

Grant Management

You will also be responsible for the scrutiny of the technical and construction aspects of Premier League Stadium Fund grant applications and ensuring the successful completion of new and improved stadium facilities. As part of this process, you will provide professional advice and guidance to applicants to assist with the development of capital projects, within the National League System (NLS) and Women’s Football Pyramid (WFP).

You will work with clubs to ensure that solutions can be found to address the findings of the Stadium Accreditation Programme, and will then carry out a technical assessment of any grant applications made by those clubs. Following the allocation of any funding, you will help to oversee the construction process to ensure that the build is completed to programme.

What are we looking for?

You’ll need a construction-related degree or professional qualification (for example RICS, CIOB, RIBA or equivalent), or the equivalent experience in a construction management or technical role. You’ll have expertise in construction processes, and experience of delivering facilities from inception to completion. Experience in sports facility construction is desirable but not essential.

You must also have great people skills and the ability to inspire and engage people at all levels, from clients and suppliers to volunteers, whilst also being confident in dealing with conflict and challenging situations. You’ll have strong organisational skills and a keen attention to detail with the ability to analyse complex situations and make tough decisions. You’ll be flexible and open to new ways of doing things, including new technologies, so that the Premier League Stadium Fund and the Stadium Accreditation programme continue to improve.

Reporting to the Compliance Lead, the Data Protection Adviser will drive the development of an improved Compliance culture throughout the charity whilst ensuring that we adhere to all relevant regulations and laws. About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us and influence real change in the South of England, helping us drive our Paths for Everyone vision forward, a vision of a more sustainable future in transport.Paths for Everyone 

As a Senior Project Manager, you will help us to shape and develop the future for the National Cycle Network (NCN).  You will design, develop, and maintain the NCN, connecting people and places, and provide traffic-free spaces for everyone to enjoy.   

Your experience with managing complex construction projects and your broad understanding of transport planning, will help you lead and support a small team, as you oversee a budget of several million pounds a year, ensuring the delivery of impactful programmes and projects on the National Cycle Network, whilst aligning with Sustrans’ vision and Theory of Change. 

You will draw on your experience and understanding of the principles of walking and cycling network planning to support the team with the delivery and quality assurance of Local Cycling and Walking Plans and feasibility studies for active travel routes. 

You will help us be financially sustainable too, by taking a strategic approach to funding opportunities. You will help us build relationships with landowners, local authorities, and others, so that we can work in partnership to make things happen.  As part of this, we are working with local authorities to create a 20-year plan for the delivery of the NCN, which involves aligning projects with local strategic priorities.

You will have experience of working at a strategic level, at least at the middle manager level, influencing decision-making and implementation. You'll have a case worker lead responsibility in cases involving the protection and safeguarding of children and/or vulnerable adults, and up-to-date knowledge of research and evidence-based practice models relevant to safeguarding.

You will also need:

• A professional qualification or equivalent experience relevant to safeguarding.

• The ability to apply safeguarding theory and good practice models in a way that delivers positive outcomes for children and/or vulnerable adults.
• Experience in leading organisation change and development, including cultural change, that results in improved outcomes for relevant stakeholders.

• A salary of £39,711.60 (FTE £66,186) plus age-related pension contributions between 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of your salary.

Global Greengrants Fund (GGF) supports grassroots activists and civil society organisations around the world working to address environmental and social justice in over 160 countries. GGF applies a participatory and decentralised model in making grants to grassroots groups through regional and thematic boards of advisors, global partner networks and independent funds, to support grassroots environmental and social justice action. Global Greengrants Fund comprises two organisations located in the USA, Global Greengrants Fund Inc (established in 1993), and Global Greengrants Fund UK
(established in 2012). The two organisations work closely together with a shared grantmaking programme and strategic collaboration at the senior leadership level. The role
Global Greengrants Fund UK is looking to hire an energetic and passionate individual who will play a key role in establishing and developing Global Greengrants Fund UK’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) work. The new role of MEAL Officer will undertake high-quality data management and analysis to produce key learnings on the outcomes of GGF’s grantmaking and other programmatic activity, as well as leading system improvements to our evolving monitoring, evaluation and learning framework in collaboration with global colleagues. They will be providing support to the emerging global learning function, and the role will support the delivery of learning activities across our network to develop clear briefs, learnings and findings that can be used by other functions, including the Communications and Philanthropic Partnerships teams, to strengthen the organisation’s external and internal engagement and knowledge sharing activities. This will include developing appropriate methodologies and tools to collate, validate, summarise, analyse and report on key trends within our grantmaking using and improving on a range of data sources including grantee application forms and reports. Working as part of the UK Programme Support function and reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, the post holder will also collaborate closely with colleagues across the global organisation Global Greengrants Fund, particularly within the Programmes, Communications, and Learning teams towards realising organisational aims.

The candidate profile
The successful applicant will have significant relevant experience in a similar role in a charitable, environmental, development, and/or grant-making organisation. They will be an experienced, senior-level specialist with a strong track record in data collection, monitoring and analysis, with good working knowledge of a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, tools and systems, and in using this information to evaluate and recommend adaptations, and in reporting. Higher-level qualifications/certification in a relevant field, post-graduate qualification would be a distinct advantage, particularly in the social sciences and/or use of mixed method approaches. They will have demonstrated experience authoring MEAL related reports, either organisational reports or academic publications; demonstrated ability to coordinate and improve the process of data collection, analysis and reporting and demonstrated experience in managing datasets, databases, programming, and other analysis software. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; and be confident in engaging a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including at senior levels. They have exceptional organisational and research abilities, with strong attention to detail and accuracy, including analysing large amounts of information from disparate sources. They should have excellent interpersonal understanding, relationship building, and interpersonal skills to build strong alliances with diverse constituencies. They also thrive in a virtual environment and are motivated to take on challenges and collaboratively find innovative and creative solutions.
