We are seeking an experienced Head of Policy Research to join our team. This is a senior and strategic role, responsible for team management and leading key research projects, providing subject matter expertise and liaising with stakeholders. The role is responsible for the delivery of research and projects under their remit and contribution to the development of new research, working closely with other senior leaders and external stakeholders.

The Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) is an educational research institute established to help improve later life outcomes. We are independent and an expert across all elements of the UK pension system. We contribute facts, analysis and commentary to help stakeholders, decision-makers and law-makers take informed policy positions and decisions on pensions and retirement income provision.

Direct reports: Permanent researchers x3 and contractors (on an ad hoc basis)

Reports to: Deputy Director

Responsibilities

• Leading the research team, managing the resources and interaction with the modelling team
• Managing relevant external research associates, brought in from time to time to complete projects
• Generating input into the overall research plan with ideas for new areas of research
• Producing scopes and bids and working with external sources to secure project funding
• Building relationships with others in the academic community and Government
• Representing the PPI at events and conferences, and in discussions with Government, the pensions industry and other stakeholders. 
• The management and production of PPI research projects:
  • To ensure the timely delivery of quality outputs from the policy researchers and relevant research associates
  • From time to time, subject to workload: to research and draft PPI publications including conducting literature reviews and desk-based research, analysing and interpreting data from a policy perspective, developing conclusions from analysis, presenting data and report writing
  • To participate in discussion groups and seminars on pensions policy issues and contribute to developing the PPI’s research agenda and profile.

Location

We are a hybrid organisation and operate a remote working policy which means staff spend some time working in the office and some time working remotely. It is important that the successful candidate builds strong relationships across the team as a whole and with our stakeholders.  As most of our audiences and sponsors are mainly based in London, there will be a strong case for the successful candidate being London based, or able to come to London as frequently as required. We therefore anticipate that the normal place of work will be at the PPI office in Central London.

We are investing in this new position in order to centralise those diverse admin responsibilities, with the Income and Finance Liaison Senior Officer taking full ownership of the associated processes and deliverables, and helping to establish "best practice" to support the Charity in our next growth phase.

The Income and Finance Liaison Senior Officer will contribute to the growth of upReach by working across the Income Generation and Finance teams contributing to a wide range of income and finance related activities. You will support the teams to meet income targets and deliver the 2024-27 strategic plan.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Income Generation and External Engagement you will work closely with the Director of Finance, CEO, Finance and Programmes teams, and colleagues across the income generating and external engagement team;  supporting them to meet financial targets, provide excellent stewardship and to  implement key administrative and financial processes. 

The core responsibilities include: 

Income generation and External Engagement

• Ownership of a range of administrative tasks, including stewarding of donors and partners and support of the Development Board.

• Promptly addressing incoming queries from supporters and partners, including email, telephone and post; assist the team by managing;

  • Departmental email inboxes

  • Prioritising requests and responding where appropriate

• Oversee the management of contracts with partners and funders; generate, issue and follow up in a timely fashion.

• Support the timely production of monthly management reports.

• Play a key role in the complaints procedures for the department and conduct full investigations where needed.

• Work with the team to ensure all relevant data is created and maintained regularly and accurately on the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database.

• Keep on top of developments, changes in trends and patterns, new techniques and legislation. 

Finance

• Act as the key liaison point between the income generation and finance team.

• Work with Finance to identify and find solutions to bottlenecks in the purchase order, invoicing and payment process.

• Ensure that money coming into the charity can be identified and coded accurately on the CRM database and finance systems.

• Create and maintain accurate records in the finance system, including billing values, timings and dates.

Team Working

• Work with colleagues across the department and organisation.

• Lead and support rotatees (Team members on the Graduate scheme) and volunteers as required.

• Support the implementation of business improvement and people development initiatives.

Role Summary

The role will support the Development team to successfully raise over £3.5 million annually through fundraising, in addition to a concurrent £19.25m capital campaign. The successful candidate will efficiently manage the day to day running of The Old Vic’s individual giving scheme, reporting to the Head of Individual Giving and working with the Individual Giving Officer to implement and carry out a yearly strategic plan to retain and increase support across all levels of Membership and wider areas of giving.

Areas of responsibility

Individual Giving

• Contribute to developing a strategic plan for individual giving including Membership, small to medium sized donations across all giving channels.
• Assume responsibility for The Old Vic’s philanthropic individual giving Membership scheme, OV Together.
• Retain and increase support by delivering excellent stewardship, including delivery of benefits and events, and communication with donors.
• Generate and convert new donor prospects in order to meet and exceed agreed annual individual giving targets of c. £1.25 million to contribute to the overall Development team target.
• Line manage the Individual Giving Officer, monitoring key performance indicators and objectives to ensure that targets are met.

Administration

• Oversee lists and draft communications going out to individual supporters including season announcements, updates and invitations and segmenting mailing lists when necessary.
• Oversee ticket bookings and catering reservations for supporters and to innovate time-saving new processes for automating bookings and reservations.
• Ensure Membership collateral is regularly updated to deadlines.
• Ensure database records are updated with donations, research notes, Memberships and event attendance.

• Identify new routes, channels and audiences to promote other ways of giving amongst existing Old Vic contacts, our database and new prospects.
• Innovate and implement new fundraising projects, such as Tap to Donate scheme, and creating supporting documents (e.g. case for support and rebrand of membership scheme).
• Use data analysis to track Membership trends and prospecting, with support from the Individual Giving Officer, to inform strategy and cultivation efforts for upgrading and recruitment.
• Identify opportunities to further develop relationships with our existing supporters (e.g. cross-sell) and feeding this into strategic plans for Individual Giving.
• Support the Senior Development Operations Manager on the maintenance of a team-wide prospect tracking system and help monitor the solicitation process.

General

• To ensure The Old Vic’s programmes, website and social media are regularly updated with Development information and liaise with Marketing as appropriate in achieving these tasks.
• Contribute proactively to Development team activities.
• Undertake training deemed necessary by the Development Director.

Overview of Role:

As Human Resources Advisor you will be joining a small, friendly and supportive HR team providing advice and support to managers and staff across the full range of employee life-cycle activities. This is a maternity cover post, so is offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months. As this is a short-term contract, we are looking for someone with HR experience at this level who can also embody our culture as a charity with a Christian ethos.

You will provide HR advice and support, to our Centres of Mission (CoM) (which are local projects run in partnership with Diocese to share the Good News of Jesus); our central services team in Sheffield known as Co.Lab; and our Sheffield based conference centre and accommodation.

The HR Advisor will play a key role in developing and strengthening the relationship between the staff, line managers and HR and ensure we deliver an effective HR service which is aligned with the service to the wider organisation. The post holder will work closely with managers in making sure the Christian ethos and values of Church Army are part of their culture and practice as line managers.

This role suits someone who is a HR generalist with strong knowledge of key HR practices including recruitment and retention, employee relations and development and training. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working in HR and hold a related qualification such as CIPD. As the role will be the link between HR, CoMs and our Co.Lab team, the post holder will play a key part in ensuring the vision, values and ethos of Church Army are evident. They will also bring their day-to-day experience of those areas into shaping the practice of the HR Team.

Salary: £21,029 (0.7) per annum / £24,033 (0.8) per annum (FTE £30,041) per annum

To support the delivery of quantitative or technical components of projects within the Research and Analysis (R&A) team and to contribute knowledge, data analysis and research skills to a range of CSE projects across all teams.

Pay and conditions

• The role is full-time 37.5 hours per week.
• The salary for the role will be £27,121-£32,486 per year.
• You will be entitled to 25 days paid holiday (plus statutory holidays).

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

• Support research and technical projects or activities using data analysis, statistical analysis, modelling and mapping tools (both in-house and external) or other quantitative techniques.
• Produce high quality written material for reports and other publications by summarising key research findings, presenting effective visualisation of data and producing well evidenced research findings.
• Communicate outputs effectively to internal team members and support the communication of outputs to external stakeholders.
• Ensure project data is well organised and appropriately stored and shared in line with any legal and ethical requirements.
• Apply appropriate and reproducible analytical methods.
• Be a proficient user of Excel and other data analysis tools (such as R, SPSS, SQL, Python, GIS, QGIS)
• Continuously improve research and analysis skills through online training, knowledge sharing within the R&A team, and mentorship from senior staff.
• Contribute to the method write up in research bids or consultancy proposals.
• Contribute to one or more of CSE’s strategic work programmes (see Organisational Strategy 2024-28), supporting idea development and impact activities.

Essential attributes for this role include:

• A degree level qualification or equivalent in a relevant field (for example energy, economics, STEM subjects, social science or data analytics).
• Experience of managing, cleaning, processing and analysing data using Excel and tools such as R, SPSS, etc.
• Experience of writing up research outputs and effectively communicating complex issues.
• Ability to write high quality research reports and publications with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to present research findings in accessible and compelling ways for a range of audiences.
• Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team.

The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) has an international award-winning reputation in heritage conservation and regeneration for its own estate. For this reason CCT has been contracted to deliver a programme of work for Historic Chapels Trust (HCT). HCT owns and cares for 20 of the most significant Nonconformist and Catholic chapels no longer in regular use by their congregations, all listed at Grade I and Grade II*.  Key to the project is management of the assets, funded by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) through their Cultural Assets Fund (CAF).

As a member of CCT’s national Conservation team you will be the main point of contact for all chapel maintenance related issues, liaising closely with contractors, local groups and volunteers. Alongside the Conservation Projects Manager for Chapels you will deliver the maintenance programme, including regulatory and legal compliance, as well as deal with utilities and insurance of chapels. 10 of the chapels are in our North region, 6 in our West region and 4 are in our South East region.

You will have previous experience in the field of historic buildings maintenance, repair or property management. You will be an effective communicator, be able to plan and deliver your own workload and also work as part of a team. As you’ll be working at chapels throughout England it is essential you have a full driving licence.

Role

This is a new position. Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, you will be involved in all the duties required to maintain a complete general ledger and financial records and support financial planning/forecasting.

International Accountant Responsibilities

— The responsibilities of the International Accountant will include, but are not limited to:

International Accounting Operations

• Develop a General Ledger Chart of Accounts which supports our current grantmaking operations with the flexibility to accommodate various directions in our growth, allows easy consolidation with sister entities, and is IFRS compliant to allow us to provide regulatory and audit reporting in various jurisdictions.
• Implement optimal Chart of Accounts and processes, evaluating current and alternate accounting systems as needed and developing interface processes to existing systems as needed (HRIS, Payroll, Grants Management System, expense reporting) as needed.
• Perform duties necessary for the timely and accurate verification and recording of financial and investment (MRI/PRI) operations including general ledger, entries and reconciliations, investment portfolio tracking and transactions, international payroll, benefits and taxes.
• Work closely with Human Relations Specialist on payroll and benefits administration processes.
• Collaborate with senior management team, Operations Manager and others to determine an optimal process for reviewing and approving expenses.
• Audit corporate credit card(s).
• Identify institution and global consolidated reporting needs with senior management team and agree schedule and distribution for regular financial reporting.

Budgeting and Financial Planning

• Assist in preparation of the annual organisational and department budgets.
• Monitor and provide quarterly budget performance reports and analysis to organisation and departments with close cooperation to develop and implement measures to minimize variance.
• Assist staff to self-manage budgets.
• Support financial planning and forecasting including developing scenarios for growth.

Cash Flow Management

• Reconcile annual and quarterly projected expenses and cash flow requirements and coordinate with family office for redemption decisions.
• With Operations Manager and Human Relations Specialist, maintain and improve policies and organization discipline for accurate and timely processing of accounts payables, employee expense reports, travel guidelines, time reporting, etc.

Regulatory and Audit Compliance (initially in support of regulatory reporting through the family office)

• Strengthen financial systems integrity and controls according to IFRS, tax and regulatory measures and foundation policies.
• Build systems for timely and accurate provision of data and provide direct support for annual audit and tax filing.
• Work with external advisors, as needed, to ensure compliance with relevant country and international regulatory requirements in areas of taxes, documentation requirements, payroll and benefits.

General and Other

• Develop and manage relationships with accounting-related service providers as needed including in-country and global accountants, auditors, payroll and tax experts.
• Develop and maintain an asset inventory/schedule.
• Support for MRI/PRI activities as needed.
• Continually improve internal financial processes.
• Potential management of banking relationships, international wire transfer and/or other payments systems.
• Occasional travel as required for execution of duties.
• Other duties as are consistent with accountant’s role and experience as the foundation continues to evolve, or from time to time as prompted by institutional priorities.

Qualifications

— The successful International Accountant candidate will likely reflect much of the following profile:

 Essential

• Several years of progressively responsible professional experience in international accounting, ideally in an international organisation and / or in auditing / tax consulting.
• Accounting experience in philanthropy or non-profit.
• Experience in multiple tax jurisdictions and working in multi-currency environments.
• In-depth IFRS knowledge.
• Excellent, hands-on knowledge of web-based systems including accounting (current platform is Xero), and office suite platforms (proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred).
• Comfortable in complex and highly matrixed environments. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers across disciplines and functions in shared efforts with proven ability to influence without direct formal authority.
• Comfortable working remotely.
