About the role

Sightsavers are seeking for a Research Assistant to support our new Research and Evidence Uptake Strategy which identifies technological innovations as a new priority area. In the next strategic period, we aim to develop and implement strategies for digital enhancement of our research approaches and programmes to maximise the effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of our work.

The Research Assistant will have an understanding of data and digital technology space and how to apply them in low- income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. They will work alongside other members of the Research team to identify opportunities and develop and test digital solutions to enhance our programmes and research.  The immediate opportunities include digital support for inclusive education programmes in Kenya and Sierra Leone and neglected tropical disease programmes in Ghana and Mozambique. There will also be opportunities to be involved in research using traditional quantitative and qualitative methods, including health system assessments, surveys and focus group discussions.

As the successful candidate you will possess a postgraduate degree in data sciences, data management or other related fields, and have good knowledge and experience of working with data systems and platforms in Sub-Sharan Africa context, which is essential for this role.

Further requirements include:

• Knowledge of statistical programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
• Understanding and experience of novel tools using statistics, mathematics, and machine learning approaches for data analysis.
• Experience in basic and advanced analytical techniques.
• Demonstrated knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
• Understanding of the key research methods and research governance.
• Ability to travel - on planned visits, for up to 10 weeks of the year, in sometimes difficult locations.

About the role
As the Mental Health Hub Service Lead, you will collaborate with the Director of Children and Young People Services and Clinical Leads to drive the strategic growth and development of the organisation's services. Your key responsibilities will include designing and developing a new Mental Health Hub service, managing recruitment, training, quality and governance, supervising staff, reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and maintaining strong relationships with commissioners and other key stakeholders.

Lead the contractual relationship for the Children and Young People's Hub service.

Our expert team of canine behaviourists provide behavioural support and advice to teams within Battersea, members of the public, and the rescue organisations we work with around the world. The team design and help implement behaviour modification and training plans for dogs whilst coaching members of the canine care groups through the practical day-to-day steps. They also assist with behavioural and welfare assessments of animals who come into our centres and are on hand to help manage and provide further support with dogs with more complex behavioural needs. We are now looking to recruit a Canine Behaviour and Training Advisor for our team in London. Within this role, you will work with our operational teams in the assessment and welfare of the dogs in our care and in the provision of behavioural training and advice for staff, volunteers, customers and external organisations. You will be working as part of a care group to create behaviour modification plans, support with handling difficult dogs and make recommendations, along with the individual care group, for individual dog outcomes.

Hybrid working

This is a hybrid role. You will be working from home and join Team Together Days in a co-working space in London 2-3 individual days each month. These days are considered commuting days. Title: Male Residential Support Worker (this is a live-in role)

Responsible to: Cambridge Project Lead

Responsible for: Young people living in the accommodation (4 young people aged 16 – 18 years old seeking asylum in the UK).

Location: This is a live-in, residential role based in a supported accommodation home in Cambridge. Some work will be based in our office buildings.

Hours: 25 hours per week on duty – this is a mixture of day, evening and weekend shifts. Two days a week will be off duty.

Leave: Two nights a month can be taken as nights away from the home. This in addition to annual leave allowance. Annual leave - 33 days (converted into hours) pro-rata for number of hours worked

Overall Purpose

To provide advice, assistance and support to young people in the home, as a key member of the Support Team, delivering Baca’s service in line with our Vision and Values. The role includes a consistent adult presence in the home. To attend to their practical and emotional needs whilst supporting the development of living skills. To teach them how to manage and look after a home in order to keep it safe and hygienic. To build trusting relationships within the home to enable young people to feel safe and cared for. To act as an excellent role model and to work closely with them and their Support Worker to enable them to make good progress towards independence.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Welcome newly arrived young people into the accommodation, helping them feel safe and able to rest; with compassion without discrimination of age, race, colour or behavioural issues.
• Actively support young people to make progress and develop in the following outcomes; physical wellbeing and emotional wellbeing; personal safety; education and learning; employment and training that is safe and suitable; social engagement (being part of the community and activities outside of the home)
• Be an excellent and positive role model, offering advice, guidance and assistance and consistently modelling behaviours in line with Baca’s values.
• Using Baca’s progress plan, train all young people in living skills and looking after a home such as washing, personal safety, cleaning, cooking and food safety, food shopping and budgeting.
• Providing emotional support at times of difficulty, anxiety or stress.
• Encourage young people settle into and support them to maintain a healthy routine which will include regularly attending education and social activities.
• Act as a co-keyworker for the young people to ensure that their support plans and progress are up to date and that all their needs are being met.
• Enable young people to live with positive values and good boundaries by challenging any unhelpful or unsafe behaviours and encouraging safe and positive behaviours.
• In accordance with the guidelines on Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies, to accept responsibility for working within these guidelines and report any concerns.
• Work collaboratively with the rest of the Rebuild Team to ensure all young people are safeguarded and supported to rebuild their lives.
• Take responsibility for keeping the home clean, by consistently role modelling to and training young people.
• Maintain very good communication with relevant members of the Rebuild Team and relevant social workers
• Ensure regular appropriate reporting requirements are consistently met, meeting regulations set out by Ofsted.
• Complete and update all admin work as part of the role such as month end reports and support plans on time and in a consistent manner.
• Playing an active role in developing knowledge and understanding in areas relevant to the role and especially in the areas of asylum and refugee law, trafficking, supporting separated children and the cultures of different nations relevant to Baca.

Baca is looking for a Support Worker who is passionate about seeing unaccompanied young refugees achieving their potential and rebuilding their lives for a better future. The successful applicant will have a personal style that is in line with Baca’s vision and values. They will live in the new arrival house and make it their home. This is a frontline role that will need the successful applicant to be working closely with young people in their houses and will need access to transport young people to different appointments, meetings and activities.

About the role:

In this role you will be a key part of FLEX’s policy team and responsible for leading on the implementation of FLEX’s Communications Strategy, ensuring that FLEX’s communications help progress our strategic aims. You will develop comms outputs and work with internal and external contacts to produce content and conduct strategic comms work. This role involves tracking analytics, maintaining relevant records, and working with the press and other media partners to reach our audiences. 

Key responsibilities:

Communications

• Lead on the implementation of FLEX Comms Strategy, tracking, measuring, and reporting on the effectiveness of the Charity’s communications channels.
• Liaise with team members and external colleagues, as relevant, to conduct strategic communications planning and work.
• Maintain a comms workplan for key outputs and coordinate FLEX’s communications, including research publications, policy briefings, blogs, etc.
• Manage FLEX’s website and digital media accounts, and work with the wider team to ensure a regular social media presence for FLEX.
• Draft and edit communications outputs for the FLEX team, including blogs, video scripts, and other content.
• Maintain the FLEX website, including its structure and ensuring content is up to date and relevant.
• Devise, draft and circulate external comms outputs (e.g. the FLEX’s newsletter) and explore new ways to communicate our messages to our audiences (e.g. regular mail-shots, google groups, etc.).
• Represent FLEX and act as first point of contact for press enquiries, provide background information to journalists on relevant areas, and signpost to relevant staff as per FLEX’s press protocol.
• Produce visual content using relevant software (e.g. Canva, Piktochart, etc.).
• Develop contact management systems and/or databases (e.g. dissemination lists, media contact lists, etc.).

The role

As the Peer Mentor Coordinator (Young Women & Girls), this is an exciting time to join Advance while we embark on our journey to reach even more young women and girls aged 13-25 in need of support. You will project manage the mentoring service and recruit, support and develop Volunteer Mentors in their roles. Working as part of an innovative and newly-funded service, you will also work closely with the Maia Service Manager to capture and share feedback and learning from the project, using this to inform the ongoing development of Advance’s ways of working with YWG and disseminating findings widely across key partners and networks.

About You:

To be successful as the Peer Mentor Coordinator (Young Women & Girls) you will need the below experience and skills:

You will be able to project manage the Maia’s Service’s peer mentoring programme, liaising with keyworkers and partner agencies to successfully establish and run a peer mentoring programme across six boroughs.

You will be able to effectively engage and recruit women with lived experience to act as Volunteer Mentors for the YWG engaging with the Maia service. 

You will be able to develop resources and deliver a training package to Volunteer Mentors, including sessions on key topics such as safeguarding, data protection and confidentiality, building relationships and maintaining boundaries, active listening and risk and crisis management, as well as specialist workshops focused on the challenges facing YWG, including violence, abuse and exploitation and contact with the criminal justice system.

You will have experience in developing and maintaining links with partner agencies (statutory and non-statutory, including children and young people’s and women and girls’ voluntary services) across the six boroughs, raising the profile of the Maia service and developing specific referral pathways for Volunteer Mentors and the YWG they support where appropriate.

You will be knowledgeable and have a strong understanding of the challenges facing vulnerable young women and girls, including the impacts of domestic abuse, exploitation, mental health and contact with the criminal justice system, and of the practical and emotional support needs specific to this group, including education, confidence and relationship-building.
