Animal Volunteer Roles

Providing assistance to the Fundraising team in growing our fundraising activity for the Trust, we are looking to recruit volunteers to become Ambassadors for the Trust, to attend these community fundraising events on anad-hoc basis. 

Due to the frequency and nature of these events, Trust staff are often unable to attend and therefore miss out on much needed funds and opportunities to grow our networks.  Our volunteers act as an ‘ear on the ground’, and help by sharing any new fundraising opportunities that come up within our area/region with the Fundraising team.

Tasks you will be involved with:

 - Giving a short thank-you speech on behalf of the Trust.
 - Handling money/collecting funds.
 - Setting up display banner and/or stand.
 - Talking to members of the public about our aims and the work of the Trust.
 - Working with a diverse range of people across all age groups.
 - Helping others to act for nature.

To assist with the smooth running of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust by providing a range of office administration and information services to staff, volunteers and members.

Tasks you will be involved with:
• Management of documentation and records including scanning, filing, archiving and shredding
• Assisting the Administrator with creation and maintenance of internal spreadsheets
• Assisting with the input of data onto our Access Charity CRM database system
• General office duties such as maintaining tidy storage of office consumables, replenishment of first aid consumables, unpacking stationery, checking and updating noticeboards
• Supporting project staff with preparation of materials, e.g. photocopying and laminating display items
• Distributing and dispatching mail

Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders have the important role of coordinating, encouraging and supporting teams of volunteer fosterers and cat carers. They make sure volunteers with direct cat care roles are happy and confident, and provide advice and guidance when needed. This incredible teamwork means we can help more cats and kittens in need.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the Branch Coordinator, Cat Welfare team, Branch Development Manager and Vet team to ensure that CP cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied
• Supporting fosterers to follow Cats Protection cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Ensuring that accurate and up-to-date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified Cats Protection systems
• Attending relevant Cats Protection volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• Recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers, using Cats Protection processes
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the Cats Protection Cat Adoption Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Northumbria Cats Protection is run by a small team of dedicated, cat-loving volunteers.
In 2023, our amazing team of volunteers helped over 130 cats: 38 cats and kittens found their 'furever' homes, 90 feral cats were trapped and neutered and our fabulous local vets delivered 436 treatments to cats.

The time for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders usually give between 10 to 12 hours a week. This is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Unfortunately thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a TNR volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary

• To act as principal communications trustee managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of the branch.
• To act as the main contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the  branch committee and the branch membership.
• Order and distribute RSPCA stationary, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material.
• Arrange branch meetings, usually 11 per year, there is no meeting in December, meetings generally last about 2 hours and are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. ⅔ of meetings are held virtually.
•  Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.
• Arrange the branch AGM Including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all  branch correspondence where necessary.
• Liaise with the Branch Support Specialist and group chief inspector and notify them of all  branch meetings.
• Monitor the secretary's email address, issue the newsletters, issue any one off appeals.

Training is available.

Some times of the year are much busier than others. For example April when the Annual  Report needs to be done, May when all the calling notices for the AGM need to be sent out and in June when everything needs to be prepared ready for the AGM.

Experience/skills/knowledge/personal qualities required

Applicants will need to be able to prioritise/organise a workload, being tactful but clear, have basic computer skills, understanding confidentiality and working independently whilst keeping everyone informed and accept the ethos of the RSPCA. Training is available.

Working from home with occasional visits to team meetings in Macclesfield, Congleton and Buxton areas.

Our collection box fundraising volunteers help our volunteer groups raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 18p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

Purpose of your role: 
As a Local Reserves Group Leader, you will lead a group of volunteers on one of our local nature reserves to carry out a variety of tasks throughout the year. This is a valuable resource for enabling volunteers to give their time over a weekend, when other opportunities are limited.

Tasks you will be involved with: 

Leading a group of volunteers on your designated nature reserve
To ensure that the reserves group is conducted in a safe environment and any accidents or near misses are reported to the Reserves Manager as soon as is practicable 
Liaison with Reserves Manager to produce a plan of work. Thereafter to liaise with your Reserves Officer regarding ongoing practical habitat management
To adhere to WKWT Health & Safety, Policies and Procedures. Liaise with the Reserves Officer regarding any problems arising as soon as is practicable
To securely maintain and complete all relevant trust paperwork to allow for collation of site tasks and volunteering information and attendance details
To maintain any tools and other WKWT owned resources in accordance with good working practice
To attend regular training or refresher sessions as organised by WKWT 
To attend an Annual Health & Safety Check with WKWT Reserves Officer and/or staff member
To be part of the management plan review programme

About The Role

 Our centre offers a selection of spaces for hire that are great venues for corporate meetings, team away days and other events, and all profit from these goes directly to our global and national conservation projects.

In this role, you will be providing essential behind-the-scenes support for our friendly staff team to generate income for our conservation work by assisting with day-to-day administration, dealing with telephone enquiries, helping to promote our services to potential clients, making bookings, keeping our electronic systems up-to-date and providing clients with information.

• Dealing with telephone and email enquiries for bookings
• Filing hard copies of bookings
• Dealing with visitors enquiries and liaising with the appropriate staff member
• Checking voicemails and taking appropriate action
• Assisting with general administration
• Researching the internet for specific tasks
• Helping with basic set-up for events

About The Role

Our wetland centres shape unforgettable experiences for our visitors to engage with wetland wildlife and learn more about the amazing work  WWT does to conserve wetlands and species around the world.

In this role you will play a part in helping to manage the site, keeping it safe and tidy, ready to welcome our visitors and share our story.

You might find yourself:

• Helping with the maintenance of our visitor areas including vegetation weeding, clearing, pruning, coppicing and planting.
• Repairing and maintaining pathways and edging.
• Repairing and replacing timber fences, gates and barriers, painting and preserving where it's needed.
• Preparing the Centre for opening: checking and cleaning paths and rails, emptying bins, and replenishing sanitizer units around the grounds.

• Keeping up to date with WWT news and talking to visitors about events and activities that might spark their interest.

Purpose of your role:

eserves based volunteers assist our Local Reserves Group Volunteer Leader to maintain and enhance their local nature reserve. 

Tasks you will be involved with: 
Tasks will vary throughout the year, ranging from meadow and ride cutting in the summer to coppicing, tree felling and scrub clearance in the winter along with various other construction projects, fencing, pond work, litter picking. Often the work will involve the use of hand tools, mechanical and powered equipment such as brush-cutters, chainsaws, mowers and tractors on site.
