The Sutton Trust is the UK’s leading foundation dedicated to improving social mobility. The organisation conducts rigorous research into the issues of low social mobility and educational disadvantage, undertakes policy advocacy to effect systemic change, and delivers programmes to over 10,000 young people each year across the country. The Trust is recruiting a creative and committed Research and Policy Officer to join our team, as fixed term cover for paternity leave. Reporting to one of the team’s Research and Policy Managers, the successful candidate will play a significant role in developing and preparing the Trust’s research and policy outputs, working across the core areas of the Sutton Trust’s work (early years, schools, apprenticeships, higher education and access to the workplace). This will include helping to produce original, data rich and policy relevant research reports, along with contributing to other Trust research projects where required. They will also support the policy and advocacy work of the Trust, including performing background research on topics relevant to educational inequality and social mobility as required.

Main duties

• To contribute, with colleagues, to 2 or more data-rich research reports accessible to practitioners and policy makers, over the course of the year, as agreed with the Research, Comms and Policy leadership team.
• To support the Sutton Trust’s programme of research and policy work, including:
  • Providing staff with background research, analysis and data on relevant topics
  • Producing literature reviews
  • Supporting research funding bids
  • Providing administrative support
• Working with Communication colleagues to develop messaging and content for disseminating and publicising reports.
• Supporting advocacy work, as required, with MPs’ staff, civil servants, special advisers and other policy makers.
• Other duties as necessary from time to time

Person Specification

Essential:

• Strong analytical skills and understanding of research methods, particularly quantitative research and literature reviews. This should include experience of using data analysis software such as R/SPSS/Stata/Python or equivalent.
• A qualification in a social science or other numerate discipline, including statistics, mathematics, economics, computer science, data science or similar discipline in the social or natural sciences at undergraduate level, or comparable experience.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Personable, flexible and discreet; able to fit in to a small team
• Being sympathetic to the aims of the Trust and its mission to address educational disadvantage;
• Is eligible to work in the UK (see here for information about right to work)

Desirable:

• Experience undertaking research projects in an academic or working environment.
• Knowledge of one of more of our priority policy areas (early years, schools, apprenticeships, higher education and access to the workplace), and the wider education policy environment in England.
• Strong understanding of government and the public policy environment.
• Experience in education (for example, as a teacher or in another front-line educational role), education policy or a closely related field.
• Experience working within or an understanding of the not-for-profit sector.
• A postgraduate qualification in a numerate discipline (see above).
• High degree of initiative and the ability to take responsibility for projects

Terms of Appointment

• Contract: Full-time, 1-year fixed term contract
• Salary: £31,000-£35,000
• Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.

Support those who Care

This is an exciting opportunity to join our new service supporting Carers across City of London to improve their health and wellbeing, and access support that meets their needs.

The team work holistically with Carers to understand their individual circumstances and level of need. You’ll carry out home visits and community-based meetings, co-produce support plans, and develop effective relationships with Carers, families, and professionals. You will also support Carers to complete written forms and applications, draft letters, and advocate with third parties.         

You’ll build on your local knowledge to signpost and facilitate access for Carers to support services, including financial and benefit advice, housing, health and safety home systems, and leisure and social activities. You will also support the development of escalation plans so that Carers are prepared for unforeseen circumstances that would impact negatively on ability to care.

Together with colleagues, you will plan and deliver the service’s activity package, including coffee mornings, drop-in sessions, activities, online and face to face groups, and peer support forums. There will also be opportunities to promote the service by attending meetings and forums, and to deliver training sessions to professionals and community organisations so that they have the skills to identify Carers.

Applicants should have relevant personal or professional experience of working with Carers and/or vulnerable adults or children in a social care, health, education or voluntary and community sector. You’ll need a practical understanding of barriers faced by Carers, and an awareness of cultural differences and access to services. Speaking Bengali would be an advantage.

Job Summary

We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated fundraiser to join our successful team as we embark on a major capital campaign to raise £150m. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, this role will be responsible for personally securing six and seven-figure gifts from High-Net-Worth Individuals.

The Senior Philanthropy Manger will work closely with the Head of Philanthropy, the Senior Principal Gifts Manager and the rest of the Philanthropy team, feeding into the overall strategy of high-value partnerships. They will manage a portfolio of funder accounts which deliver long term, high-value strategic partnerships as well as building new relationships.

The Senior Philanthropy Manager will also manage 2 roles – Patrons Manager and a Philanthropy Manager (HNWI and Legacies), with oversight of both the Patrons Programme and Legacy programme.

The Philanthropy team is growing and there will be substantial opportunity for professional development within a world-leading cultural organisation.

Main tasks and responsibilities

· Manage a portfolio of prospects, in the UK and abroad, capable of making six and seven-figure gifts.

· Raise income in line with agreed personal and team fundraising targets.

· Working closely with the whole Philanthropy team to coordinate on the overall strategy and targets for maximising philanthropic giving to the NHM.

· Manage a team of 3, which includes line management of a Patrons Manager and Philanthropy Manager (HNWI/Legacies), whilst motivating them to meet key objectives and targets within the overall Philanthropy team.

· Work alongside the Philanthropy team, Special Events team and Corporate team in the preparation of written donor proposals, donor stewardship and the planning and execution of events related to the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.

· Work independently to plan and implement creative strategies to increase philanthropic gifts at the six and seven-figure level by creating bespoke cultivation and solicitation plans that utilise senior stakeholders effectively.

· Actively solicit funding personally, as well as plan solicitations for senior staff as appropriate.

· Build strong relationships and partner with key staff across NHM in line with our strategic ambitions.

· Prepare written briefings for senior management and with donors and prospective donors as well as follow up documentation and correspondence.

· Ensure full and timely records of all activity are kept on the database in adherence to set policies and procedures.

· Promote best practice in fundraising across the NHM.

Person Specification

Essential

· Significant fundraising or income generating experience and a proven track record of securing income at the six-figure+ level.

· Demonstrated success in managing a high value and diverse portfolio of major donors that include complex relationships (e.g. interests and relationships across a large organisation).

· Experience of working within a results-oriented environment, with a record of achieving personal KPIs and targets.

· Exceptional written communication skills with an ability to convey detailed or scientific information in a concise and engaging manner.  

· Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills and with proven experience of managing or liaising with either clients, customers or charity donors.

· Proven experience of cross-team working and liaising with multiple stakeholders.

· Good understanding of the process of fundraising.

· Excellent administration and organisation skills, demonstrating the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines whilst working under pressure.  

· Ability to work well as a member of a team as well as on own initiative.

· Ability to attend early morning and evening events as required, acting as an ambassador for the Natural History Museum.

Desirable

· A demonstrable track-record in securing and managing funding from high-net-worth individuals.

· Management experience.

· Experience of working with a fundraising / CRM system.

· Experience carrying out research to a brief (preferably fundraising research, including external research, such as giving history and funding priorities, and internal research, such as gathering figures, statistics and information).

Role Summary:

PETA’s campaigns team is at the core of the organisation – it’s a busy group of advocates pushing for an end to animal suffering with eye-catching, bold campaigns calling on the government, the corporate world, and the public to take action for animals. Our priorities include campaigning against the use of animals for experimentation, food, fashion, and entertainment. As our campaigns intern, you’ll have the opportunity to assist these efforts on the ground as well as in the planning phase. Leading People’s Economy’s approach to training

• With support from the Programme Director, lead the development of People’s Economy’s approach to training and workshops to create an approach and set of standards to be applied across the organisation.
• Stay abreast of developments in training best practice across similar organisations and use this knowledge to further develop People’s Economy’s training approach.
• Develop resources (e.g. types of training exercises) that can be used across People’s Economy’s training work
• Support colleagues and freelancers to implement People’s Economy’s training approach, including through delivering ‘train the trainer’ training and creating learning resources
• Work with the Programme Director to create processes to oversee the quality and delivery of all of People’s Economy’s training
• Lead on monitoring and evaluation of, and learning from, People’s Economy’s training work ensuring that it informs the subsequent development of training

Supporting other work strands

Managing projects and people

Job Title: Evaluation Manager

Salary: £37,500

JOB PURPOSE 

The newly formed Impact and Insights Team exist to provide research, insights and evidence; helping Magic Breakfast to achieve our mission of ending child morning hunger now and for good. The Evaluation Manager is key role within the Impact and Insights Team, responsible for evaluating the service delivery programme at Magic Breakfast – this includes evaluating new pilot approaches, assessing the impact, driving continuous improvement and shaping our offer enabling us to tackle child morning hunger today. 

The Evaluation Manager is pivotal in spearheading the strategic planning, delivery and dissemination of Magic Breakfast’s day-to-day evaluation activity, as part of the wider Impact and Insights Team’s approach to communicating research, evaluation and insights. They will hold responsibility for planning, coordinating and delivering a comprehensive programme of evaluation projects to support evaluation and impact measurement, continuous improvement, business development and communication. Our ideal candidate for this role will have experience in social research or programme evaluation.

• Plan and manage a comprehensive programme of evaluation across Magic Breakfast’s provision.

The Triage Worker sits within the Triage Team in the pilot area, working alongside the Triage IDVA. The Triage Worker will focus on all aspects of the case relating to the Perpetrator in cases where the perpetrator has been referred to the team for an assessment of suitability for a Positive Requirement during an application for a DAPO.

Respect supports frontline organisations across the UK, so that together we can end domestic abuse. WHAT WE DO

Young people from lower income families are 40% less likely to go to University than wealthier peers (Dept for Education, 2020) which can have a lifelong impact on earning potential. Covid-19 has deepened inequalities (Social Mobility Foundation, 2022) and negatively impacted on young people's wellbeing (GirlGuiding, 2020). We believe that no girls should have their futures limited by their gender, sex, ethnicity, background, or parental income and they should be supported to realise their ambitions, to discover their self-worth, and to develop their capacity to shape their world and their futures.

We work in communities of least advantage across England to deliver two core programmes to achieve this vision. Through our mentoring programme we connect 14-19 year old girls with a mentor and a wider network of role models who are women and deliver opportunities which help them to build life skills and nurture their ambitions. Based on the idea that 'you can't be what you can't see', our mentors often help girls to broaden their horizons and create a more positive vision of their futures. After the programme, the mentees can join a free, lifelong network of support - our Ambassador Community, which offers further opportunities to reach their goals, build their confidence and to share their voices and experiences.

Our programmes help girls and young women to develop the knowledge, skills, self-belief and opportunities to thrive, and to be supported as part of a network that champions them and ensures their voices are heard.

THE ROLE

This is an exciting role joining a Programme Team of 13 staff based throughout the UK. There is a small team of three based in the London. You will work closely and collaborate with the other Network Managers and share some priorities across the region, working to develop the region as a whole. The purpose of this role is to facilitate good relationships between the mentors and mentees in the region. 70-80% of the role is about relationship building (with schools, mentors and partners), coordination and the tracking/ administration of those relationships. 15-20% of the role is direct delivery with the girls in the region. You will play a crucial role setting up our 121 mentoring programmes, liaising with schools, recruiting mentors and ensuring that we have the right mentors for the mentees on programme. You will also deliver our workshop programme within the area.

Mentoring programme

• Manage overall success of the cohorts (groups of mentees and mentors) in your region, including coordinating and administering events and communications for cohorts in your area.
• Deliver engaging on-boarding sessions for mentees.
• Deliver events and workshops for mentees.
• Deliver matching of mentees and mentors at in-person events or virtually.
• Work with the wider programme team to train mentors.
• Support mentors once matched through regular check-ins, monthly emails and ad-hoc conversations.
• Collect data to track the progress, and impact of, mentoring relationships.
• Support mentors with safeguarding concerns, following The Girls’ Network. process in line with our child protection policy.
• Develop effective relationships with schools, on-boarding, supporting and retaining the partnerships

• Work with the Senior Network Manager in your area to identify professional partnerships and sponsorship with local and national businesses.

Your main responsibility will be to help steward our active relationships with donors and supporters around the world, manage delivery of key grant outputs, and build relationships with philanthropic funders and foundations.
