Community Drug and Alcohol Recovery Services (CDARS) is a charity organisation that provides psychological and social support to drug users and their family members.

As part of this work, it has built a track record of working with service user representatives, service user Councils and networks and service user involvement teams. This includes creating a strong Volunteer, Peer Mentor and Recovery Champion network and supporting them through training, supervision and access to additional personal and professional development areas.

The WCDAS and RCDAS Treatment services, led by South London and Maudsley (SLAM), are a community substance misuse ‘partnership’ service that offers a broad and inclusive range of support and treatment options for those seeking recovery from Substance use. This includes access to medical, psychological, and sustained recovery sessions within the Boroughs of Wandsworth and Richmond.

The Community Involvement Worker (CIW) will assist in delivering positive and improved outcomes for service users across both Boroughs and will work closely with the Community Involvement Co-Ordinator (CIC) to manage recruit, train and nurture peer mentors and service user representatives. This support will aim to build capacity and visible recovery across the boroughs. Both post-holders will help develop, train and nurture meaningful service user involvement through the Service User Council network and its representatives throughout the treatment system.

The post holder will need to work under the directives of the CDARS Wandsworth Management Team, with the objective of facilitating engagement in all aspects of service user involvement. The post holder will be expected to foster and develop good working relationships with staff at all levels within the partnership and establish good working relationships with other agencies, both voluntary and state, within the two Boroughs.

In this role, you will be part of a specialist team working with women who have complex needs, including mental health challenges, substance misuse, offending behaviour, and physical health issues. You’ll use a gender-informed approach, ensuring that women feel safe, supported, and empowered. This role will give you the opportunity to provide personalised support, helping clients develop independent living skills, build social networks, and access external services.

Your day-to-day work will involve conducting needs and risk assessments, creating support plans, and facilitating group work and structured interventions as part of our in-house recovery programme. You’ll work closely with external agencies to ensure that clients receive the holistic support they need, with a focus on both harm minimisation and recovery.

About the roles in our multiple disadvantage service in Westminster:

King George’s is a 68 bed hostel for men with complex needs and a history of rough sleeping. It is part of Westminster City Council’s Rough Sleepers Pathway. Many of our clients are deemed high risk/high support due to chronic mental health and physical health issues, high levels of substance misuse, and offending histories. We accept that our clients have experienced complex trauma, usually from a very early age and often throughout their lives including currently. For this reason, we work to imbed the Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) approach in a service. 

Reporting to the Manager, your role will require you to develop, support and motivate the people who we support and accommodate.We run a service that is creative, responsive and that provides a foundation which empowers people to achieve their aspirations and make positive and sustainable life changes. You will be crucial to making that happen. This role can make a real difference to individual's lives and crucially, support individuals many of whom face multiple disadvantages and have complex needs.

• A solid understanding of person-centred approaches, harm minimisation, and trauma-informed care.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with clients, empowering them to engage with community resources and take positive steps forward.

About this key role

Our successful candidate will assess referred clients, with reference to St Giles Trust assessment practices, and produce support plans and risk management plans based on these assessments, promoting inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process. We will count on you to develop and maintain relationships with referral agencies, including police, treatment provider and Liaison and Diversion, and to deliver a holistic support service working, providing a practical service that will include social and housing support, education, training and employment options, benefits work, and debt advice.

Closing cases efficiently and positively, identifying a success plan for the client that will identify agencies that can be used for on-going support and agencies that can be used if serious problems develop in the future is also a key aspect of the role.

• If still serving a sentence: to be currently eligible for Release on Temporary License (ROTL); on release, likely to be living within commuting distance of Wakefield; to be willing to provide a DBS check and other disclosure as required, including references from the Prison Service
• Experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and the ability to assess client’s needs
• Experience in negotiation with partner agencies to establish links to further aims of the project
• Proven record of engaging successfully with challenging people
• Knowledge of services for offenders and patterns of offending in Wakefield
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written

Job Purpose

This position will lead the established department/s in order to deliver on key priority areas of the Strategic Plan in the areas of: soil, climate and water; integrated crop management and pest ecology; mechanization and post-harvest; crop modeling and technology targeting; remote sensing; adoption; nutrition; and livelihoods, gender and youth issues in agrifood systems. The position will have a key role in strengthening the Institute’s role as a key provider of rice-agrifood systems based outcomes leveraging IRRI’s scientific expertise, international convening role, trusted advisor status, and extensive partnerships network. In addition to being a recognized international expert in the field, the successful applicant will have the leadership experience, standing and personal qualities required to provide inspirational leadership to a group of Research Unit Leaders who will be leading contributions into IRRI’s new cross-institutional functions, and provide strategic guidance in research innovations, partnerships and delivery of program and projects. Department Leaders have a critical role in shaping IRRI’s research for development agenda by bringing together discipline based teams organized through Research Units with cross-institutional functions, in order to ensure both the research and delivery imperatives of IRRI are met.

Leading a team of key investigators and working on shared goals with the Fossil Fuels Campaigning Lead, you will deliver impactful and credible investigations which help dismantle the power of the fossil fuel industry.

Citizens Advice Hounslow is a well-established charity operating in the London Borough of Hounslow, supporting over 15,000 clients a year. Working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, we have a new exciting opportunity for an experienced welfare benefits adviser to support to people affected by cancer and those who care for them. 

Role purpose:

• The Lead Welfare Benefits Adviser will lead and work with a team of advisers to provide welfare benefits advice, advocacy and casework for people living with cancer, their families and carers.
• The post holder will undertake casework to challenge benefit decisions including appeals, acting on behalf of clients where appropriate.
• The post holder will supervise and support the team of advisers to ensure their advice and information is effective and that clients’ incomes are maximised through benefits, grants, etc.

Training

Successful post holders who are new to cancer, will be provided with Macmillan specific welfare benefits community of practice and learning opportunities once in post.

Delivery locations

A key aspect of the project is to deliver an outreach service at the West Middlesex Hospital, our offices in Hounslow and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, with regular sessions to be covered by the team of advisers. Clients will also be seen in person at appointments at our offices, while telephone advice and video appointments can be done working remotely.

Main Responsibilities

• To provide welfare benefits advice and casework to people living with cancer, their families, and carers.
• Assist clients to challenge benefits decisions, including appeals.
• Liaise and negotiate with other statutory and voluntary organisations to progress the client’s case and ensure they receive all assistance available.
• Achieve good outcomes for clients through advocacy and negotiation.
• Lead and support a small team of advisers to ensure they work effectively
• Maintain detailed electronic case records and other data for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval and statistical monitoring and report preparation.
• Make internal referrals or signpost clients as appropriate for specialist help with issues that fall outside the remit of the Macmillan service, including housing, debt, and employment.
• Interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills so that clients feel able to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.

About the role

Christian Aid's Campaign and UK Advocacy division exists to support Christian Aid's mission by making change happen through influencing people in power; engaging, inspiring and equipping people to make their voice heard; and working with allies and champions in the church, Parliament and beyond.

This role exists to influence members of the UK Parliament and other political targets to help advance our policy, advocacy and campaigning on climate and economic justice, and crisis contexts - currently with a particular focus on Gaza and the wider Occupied Palestinian Territory. In a fast moving and rapidly changing political environment, the role is responsible for identifying the most important people for influencing the UK Government; engaging MPs to speak up on our issues; monitoring parliamentary activity; building relationships with champions inside and outside of Westminster; scanning the political horizon to support the Chief of UK Advocacy and Policy and others in the organisation; and organising events to raise Christian Aid's profile in the political arena.

About you

You will have an excellent knowledge of the UK Government and Parliament, how policy change happens in the UK and how to develop effective advocacy strategies to achieve change. You will have experience of working in advocacy, public affairs or communications in a public policy role, engaging key external stakeholders and effectively representing an organisation's opinion and complex issues to a range of audiences. You will need a good understanding of the political environment, particularly current debates in international development and climate. You will be experienced in working with other organisations, networks and coalitions to advance advocacy. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate the required experience to successfully deliver on a demanding set of priorities. This role is fixed term for 12 months

Job Purpose

This position will lead the established department/s in order to deliver on key priority areas of the Strategic Plan in the areas of: breeding for unfavorable environments, breeding for favorable environments, quantitative genetics and biometrics (related to plant breeding), seed and delivery systems, and germplasm evaluation, host plant resistance, and including market access and nutrition traits and abiotic stress tolerance. The position will have a key role in strengthening the Institute’s role as a key provider of dynamic and innovative pre-breeding and breeding research outcomes leveraging IRRI’s scientific expertise, international convening role, trusted advisor status, and extensive partnerships network. This position provides the overall leadership for accelerating the development of new rice varieties and hybrids in all major rice-growing environments, with a particular emphasis on targeted product development pipelines that, based on clear product profiles, utilize molecular breeding approaches and distributed germplasm evaluation networks to maximize genetic gains. New breeding systems and tools have been put in place in the Rice Breeding Innovation department, however further innovative and cost-effective tools and breeding systems will need to be identified, developed and implemented to achieve the goals of making the IRRI breeding program the pre-eminent public sector cereal breeding program globally.

The Rice Breeding Innovations Research Director is responsible for assuring success in a global context, while focusing on South Asia, Southeast Asia and Eastern and Southern Africa. The position also requires an understanding of breeding information management systems, intellectual property, and an ability to work with the private sector with the assistance of business development specialists. In addition to being a recognized international expert in the field, the successful applicant will have the leadership and change management experience, standing and personal qualities required to provide inspirational leadership to a group of Research Unit Leaders, and provide strategic guidance in research innovations, partnerships and delivery of programs and projects. Department Leaders have a critical role in shaping IRRI’s research for development agenda by bringing together discipline based teams organized through Research units with cross-institutional functions, in order to ensure both the research and delivery imperatives of IRRI are met.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and is open for international applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary and cross-functional groups to ensure that the Department and Research Unit goals and priorities are aligned with IRRI’s overall strategy, priorities, target goals, and values
• Contribute collaboratively to the Institute-wide research management team reporting to the Deputy Director General for Research in order to ensure cross-disciplinary, cross site, and cross functional collaboration across all of IRRI
• Ensure accountability of Research Unit Leaders to deliver research outcomes in compliance with donor requirements and IRRI’s policies and procedures
• Work as part of a team to bring in new resources to support IRRI’s research for development objectives
• Facilitate the identification of research priorities and optimum usage of IRRI’s resources
• Promote, sustain and develop new strategic partnerships and alliances with public and private stakeholders to cultivate collaborative research programs
• Act as a catalyst and champion of IRRI-wide changes to achieve IRRI’s mission and goals
• Coordinate with IRRI’s Leadership Team, through the DDG-R, in the execution of the Department and Research Unit goals and priorities
• Represent IRRI in research fora, local and international conferences to sustain and develop working relationship with new target investors, donors, government partners, communities and private institutions
• Advocate IRRI’s research for development in international research fora to enhance the IRRI’s brand across different regions
• Engage with IRRI’s national and regional partners to understand their needs and objectives and to provide complementary research for development capacity and programs fulfilling their identified needs
• Facilitate the development, alignment and integration of Research Units operational plans, objectives and key performance indicators 
• Lead and facilitate the completion and delivery of research for development outcomes and ensure compliance to funder requirements within agreed timeframes
• Harness the synergy and nurture the creativity of individual staff, multidisciplinary and cross functional research teams to generate innovative research programs and secure new sources of funding
• Ensure high performance research for development delivery from the department in order to achieve maximum success with investors, donors, partners, and users
• Manage, develop and monitor the performance of Research Unit Leaders to ensure the quality and continuous growth of human resources and to build high performing teams

Qualifications

• PhD degree and subsequent experience in plant breeding
• Recognized as an innovative international leader in a relevant science field
