Job Title: Employment & Engagement adviser 

Reports to:  Services Manager  

Line Reports: N/A 

Location:  Hybrid. Liverpool role: involves regular travel within Liverpool to provide in-person support to clients (approx. 1-2 days per week), and travel to Manchester office for team working (approx. once per fortnight as a minimum). West Midlands role: contracted to work at our Birmingham office at least 2 days a week. Manchester role: contracted to work at our Manchester office at least 2 days a week. 

Salary: £24,000-£26,500 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with occasional evening/weekend work (TOIL provided) 

Contract: 12 month fixed term contract

Language requirements: Fluency in English and at least one target language is desirable e.g., Arabic, Tigrinya, Ukrainian, Pashto, Farsi, and Dari, Cantonese. 

Overall purpose: 

We are excited to offer the opportunity of a new role within our Services team. In this role, you will work closely with our team of Employment Advisers to co-work with clients who need support for intensive jobs search and applications. You will also be involved in the enrolment and management of your own caseload of work-ready clients.

We are looking for candidates with experience of supporting individuals with barriers to work into paid employment, who also understand how to create links with local employers to advocate for individual clients. Within this role you will carry a significant responsibility, managing a caseload of work ready clients who have experienced forced migration who are closer to the labour market and supporting them in securing meaningful employment.   

You will provide one-to-one personalised support to ensure your clients access employment opportunities. This involves working with clients to progress in their employment goal, agreeing actions to provide a clear pathway into employment.   

You will work with clients online and by phone, as well as in person to monitor their progress towards their goal.

Another part of your role is to reach out to local employers to facilitate access to local jobs and build relationships to advocate for your clients. You will also support the wider team to understand where to find employment opportunities and build relationships with key employment networks. 

Complementary support will be delivered through use of our volunteers where you will book appointments for clients who require interview practice/mock interviews, allocating time slots according to availability and the volunteer’s specialty.

About this key role

You will be required to drive a transit size vehicle which will provide a base for a multi-agency team to provide support within rural areas.  Using the vehicle and its facilities as a safe place to meet with women, you will work alongside other professionals to offer person-centred support to a caseload of service users who will be female adults aged 18 years and above, focusing on holistically addressing a range of issues faced.

We will count on you to complete trauma-informed assessments, develop action plans and create a safe and trusting environment, using trauma-informed practice to successfully facilitate a supportive and constructive relationship with service users.  You will also develop and maintain positive working relationships with external agencies including Councils, Police and Fire services. Providing support and supervision to volunteer Peer Advisors is also a key aspect of this role.

What we are looking for

• Experience of working with women and supporting them to achieve positive outcomes
• Experience of engaging successfully with people who have complex needs, are/have been victims of abuse or exploitation or reluctant to discuss their needs
• Experience in delivery of one-to-one and group coaching solutions
• To have relevant qualification(s) to a good standard or be working towards one (inc. A level standard or above in any aspect of social care, advice work, youth work, etc).
• Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of managing a caseload
• Ability to assess clients’ needs and provide tailored, person-led support through action planning, and interventions involving advice, guidance, advocacy and coaching
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.

A full clean Driving Licence Is essential for this role, along with the ability and confidence to drive automatic and manual Ford Transit size vehicles. Candidates must be over 25 years old for insurance purposes.

The role:
 
As a Young Adult Intervention Coach (YIC), you will be responsible for the assessment and implementation of tailored intervention coaching plans for each at risk young person on your caseload. You will work to achieve progression outcomes for each young person that includes reducing mental, physical, and emotional harm and supporting each young person transition to positive, thriving lifestyle both on a one-to-one basis, and in partnership with other individuals and agencies involved in the lives of each young person.

Your purpose is to identify, disrupt, challenge, and support young people to move out of harm and prevent further involvement in harmful activities. This will involve targeted street work, specialised one to one harm reduction and life skills coaching. 

Alongside this you will work with intervention frontline colleagues in tertiary intervention such as knife and gun crime crisis situations as well as working with partner agencies.

You will have robust frontline experience of working with young people, including experience in engaging, assessing, and delivering interventions designed to support young people to build personal resilience and move away from harm and violence. Main duties and responsibilities

1. Gather available information about a detained person whose case has been referred to Medical Justice

2. Assess the detained person’s needs and the relevant Medical Justice resources available that could assist them

3. Raise any immediate concerns about your client appropriately within Medical Justice and beyond

4. Prioritise referrals (in collaboration with the Casework Manager and the rest of the casework team)

5. Agree a plan of action with the Casework Manager to ensure as many resources as appropriate are marshalled to assist the detained person regarding:

a. Collating of existing medical evidence regarding the detained person and generating new medical evidence, including medico-legal reports (MLRs) and professional letters produced as a result of Medical Justice clinicians’ assessments in detention and/or remotely at your request

b. Challenging any inadequate healthcare provision

c. Facilitating access to good legal representation to challenge detention and to make the best use of the medical evidence we provide, and establish any availability of Legal Aid Agency funding for MLRs and interpreters

d. Facilitating access to appropriate support including accommodation and access to healthcare on release from detention

6. Obtain relevant consent from detained clients

7. Gather further required information needed about a detained client, including medical records, files held by the Home Office, and the detained client’s legal documents

8. Carry out various other actions agreed by the Casework Manager to implement the above plan. This may include:

a. Arranging medical visits to detainees

b. Liaising with healthcare providers in the immigration removal centre (IRC) 

c. Liaising with detained clients

d. Finding appropriate legal representation for a client

e. Signposting or making referrals to other organisations

9. Provide information to the Office Manager for booking medical visits and interpreters

10. Continually update the  case-management system

11. With support from the Casework Manager and Clinical Advisor/clinical reviewers, ensure medical evidence generated is accurate and aligned with instructions from any legal representative and Medical Justice guidance

12. Continually feedback to the staff team any intelligence regarding immigration detention conditions

13. Assist the Casework Manager to provide a monthly report for Trustees on the number of referrals, outcomes and Medical Justice clinicians engaged, noting any areas of concern

14. Collaborate with other staff and partner organisations in activities to secure lasting change including litigation, research, policy work and media work. This could include identification of cases, assisting in getting consent from detained clients, and contributing to briefings and witness statements

15. Where required, attend other meetings and events as agreed with the Casework Manager, including Trustee meetings and events with partner organisations.

16. Assist in other Medical Justice activities, including clinician and interpreter training .

17. Respect and comply with Medical Justice's policies and procedure, including clients’ confidentiality, equality and diversity, health and safety, and vulnerable adults.

General

18. To work flexibly as a member of the team and the organisation and undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities at the request of the Casework Manager.

19. To assist the smooth running of the organisation, working with other Medical Justice staff, and the Trustees to meets its overall objectives, including participation in periodic performance and training reviews, and contribute to organisational development. Also, attending and assisting with relevant events as appropriate.

Spitfire Advice & Support Services Ltd is one of the foremost advice and advocacy community organisations in Birmingham and we are currently looking for an extraordinary person to join our organisation. 

We are seeking to appoint a Money Advice Case Worker with extensive experience of welfare benefits, debt advice and the relief of poverty.  Holding an IMA (Institute of Money Advisers’) qualification or recent GGDA (Giving Good Debt Advice) training will be essential.

We need to appoint someone who will understand and work with the clients who access our services, who are often vulnerable with multiple and complex needs and who will also work well as part of the team.  Based in Castle Vale our clients are from the Castle Vale Ward and the North East of Birmingham with some clients coming from the wider Birmingham area.  We are embedded in the local community and are passionate about improving the lives of the families, young and older people who reach to us for support.  We work hard to remove barriers, reduce isocial solation and increase financial inclusion for all our clients.

The appointee will need to have extensive experience of Legal Services Commission casework in the context of the Advice Quality Standard and will have worked in a target driven environment but who will also understand that people will always be our priority.  

Key Job purpose/Core Duties:

a) The delivery to AQS standard of the core Money Advice (benefit and debt casework) Service. This may be via telephone, MS Teams, email or face to face.

b) The provision of advocacy and court representation at tribunals or other statutory bodies as appropriate.

c) Taking client instructions; this may include, but is not limited to; drafting letters/emails to the client and third parties, preparing financial statements and negotiating with third parties.

d) Ensuring income maximisation through the take up of appropriate welfare benefits.

e) The support, with other team members/volunteers, of the delivery of the service on an outreach basis if required.

f) Working to targets to ensure that we meet all our contractual obligations.

g) Managing own caseload, opening and closing cases appropriately and carrying out reviews as required by AQS and the Head of Advice.

h) Maintain accurate case and client records using our digital case management system and for purpose of continuity of client casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and reporting preparation to AQS standards.

i) Ensuring that all casework meets AQS standards and complies with Money Advice Team Procedural Manual.

j) The maintenance of records and other data ensuring that it is up to date and accurate; either paper records (as required by Tribunal cases) or on our digital casework management system.

k) Ensuring that all confidential information is handled in line with the company’s Confidentiality Policy and GDPR Policy.

l) Carrying out other tasks as requested by the Head of Advice Service in support of the delivery of the project.

m) The implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures as required by your role.

n) Assist clients with related problems where they form an integral part of their case and refer to external agencies as appropriate.

We have an immigration partnership with Southwark Law Centre and are working towards OISC registration within the year. Hours: 5 days per week (37.5 hours) but open to part-time (26 hours minimum), and flexible working arrangements.

Overall purpose

The Head of Corporate Partnerships is a key leadership role within the Income and Engagement Directorate. Breaking Barriers’ relationship with corporate partners is the USP upon which our growth and success as an organisation has been built. The Head of Corporate Partnerships has accountability for generating income, impact and influence from the private sector, and for leading a high-performing team to achieve ambitious growth and scale for refugees around the UK.

As Breaking Barriers has grown from a start-up organisation to a now 60-strong team raising c. £4m and supporting more than 1,200 refugees annually, our corporate partnerships have expanded beyond our original London base to be nationwide partnerships with a wide range of businesses and employers. Our corporate partners have been crucial in enabling our growth and will be crucial to delivering upon the ambition of our 2030 goals. The Head of Corporate Partnerships is an essential role that will make this ambition a reality.

You will lead a team to deliver outstanding partnerships management of a range of strategic and multi-faceted relationships with a portfolio of c.50 businesses alongside leading strategy for business development. Leading by example you will own a number of our key relationships to drive growth, whilst bringing your experience to bear to coach your team and ensure structures and processes are in place to enable high performance.

You will be:

• a creative and strategic thinker who doesn’t feel bound by traditional approaches to charity / corporate relationships,
• a keen collaborator, working closely with colleagues in our Services directorate to deliver high impact employability programmes for our refugee clients, and with the Head of Philanthropy and Head of Public Engagement to identify and drive cross-fundraising opportunities,
• an outstanding communicator, comfortable and confident in your ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders across the worlds of CSR, DEI and employability, and across the private, public, and third sectors representing Breaking Barriers at a senior level.

The Head of Corporate Partnerships will be part of Breaking Barriers’ Joint Leadership Team and will have overall strategic and budget responsibility for Corporate Partnerships. They will be a visible leader within the Income and Engagement Directorate and across the organisation, and will contribute to a culture of creativity, growth, innovation and entrepreneurialism that will drive us to achieve our 2030 goals.
