Finance Manager

We are seeking an experienced, qualified accountant to take over and lead the financial management functions at an important charity.

Position: Finance Manager

Location: Reading/Hybrid (weekly office presence required)

Hours: Full-time (part-time available min 3 days a week possible - flexible to be agreed with the CEO)

Contract: Permanent

Salary: Circa £40,000 per annum FTE + pension 6%

About the role:

Working with the CEO, the post-holder will ensure the charity functions effectively and has long-term financial viability and sustainability. The post-holder, in conjunction with the Treasurer, will ensure the Board meets its fiscal responsibilities and all regulatory requirements are complied with.

You will advise, report to, and consult with the CEO on all matters relating to the management of RSG's financial resources and on external factors that may affect its financial situation. You will also prepare, maintain and develop financial policies and procedures, including effective systems of financial control ensuring they are updated as necessary in a timely manner.

Key areas of responsibility include:  

• Lead the annual budget-setting process, liaising with the CEO and relevant managers to produce income, cost and year-end projections that are agreed upon by the Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees.
• Track the financial performance of RSG against the budget every month, providing monthly financial reports, forecasts and commentary to the Trustees and individual reports to service managers.
• Prepare quarterly management accounts to agreed reporting deadlines.
• Lead the production of the RSG’s annual accounts to ensure they are accurate and submitted on time.
• To lead, manage and develop finance staff, including providing support, guidance and training; appraise and manage performance, ensuring the finance team workflow is managed effectively.
• Provide management support and coaching for staff on financial matters as required.
• Ensure that recording of income and expenditure, bank reconciliation, payment of invoices and reclamation of Gift Aid are administered accurately and on time.
• Produce quarterly VAT returns.

About you:

You will have communication skills sufficient to develop strong professional relationships, support the development of the organisation’s reputation and support the management of change. You will have numerical accuracy with attention to detail and be organised, methodical and precise.

Key skills required for this role:

• Recognised accounting qualification (or part qualification) and evidence of personal development in employment (CIMA/ACCA
• Proven experience at a senior level working in a charity accounts environment.
• At least 2 years supervising people in a paid or voluntary capacity.
• Accounting practices and procedures.
• Clear understanding of confidentiality in written material.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and how it applies to the role.
• Knowledge of HR, recruitment and employment issues.
• Good understanding of relevant IT systems.
• Able to communicate with a wide range of people.
• Advanced user of the use of Xero, Payroll software and Excel.
• Extensive skills in budget and quarterly management accounts preparation.

The Business Engagement Manager (Delivery) will join a small team that supports businesses and organisations across a broad range of sectors to develop their modern slavery approach.

The role underpins one of the main strands in Unseen’s mission: identifying key slavery and exploitation issues, and equipping others with effective solutions through advice and training.

You will manage a number of business clients, both existing and new clients as they onboard, delivering consultancy projects and bespoke training, influencing and continuously improving business behaviours; working with clients to help them realise the benefits of their Hub and Portal memberships.

The PR Manager role will sit within our Marketing and Communications team, and will be: 

• The primary point of contact for all PR communications, you’ll help develop and execute forward-thinking PR plans and strategies for the organisation. 

• You’ll be responsible for implementing and managing a comprehensive and proactive PR activity schedule for the charity, and craft compelling content to entice journalists and the media to support our work. As well as responding reactively to requests the charity receives.

• Championing best practices in PR, you’ll drive effective, integrated campaigns across the UK, ensuring a cohesive approach to both traditional and digital media. 

• When you join us, you’ll dive into projects such as Deaf Awareness Week, our ‘It does matter’ campaign, our campaign for access to Ear Wax removal services and major healthcare campaigns.

• You’ll drive forward our work to raise awareness of the barriers facing the 18m people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, get these issues on the national agenda and start conversations around the nation’s hearing health. This is a full-time, permanent role offered on a remote basis (travel to London once a month).

Reporting to the Head of Governance, Compliance and Risk, the Legal and Contracts Manager will provide bespoke in-house legal advice relating to all aspects of the charity's work, with a significant focus on contracts with third-party vendors. The postholder will ensure the charity complies with all applicable laws, including employment law, data protection and charity law. The Legal and Contracts Manager will lead on the drafting, reviewing and agreement of contracts and other legal documentation, ensuring that contract templates highlight the charity values.

To be successful, you will have significant experience as a practicing solicitor or barrister (or equivalent), with a focus on contract management. You will have strong knowledge of charity law and contract law, with exceptional commercial awareness. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to negotiate and influence with vendors and senior leaders. Finally, you will have strong attention to detail, able to handle sensitive information in a trustworthy fashion.

Street Paws is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 2016 with the aim of providing free and accessible veterinary care and support services to pets of homeless people in the UK. We strive to bridge the gap between animal and human welfare services. Ensuring that pets are not left behind in the fight against homelessness.

Demand for our services is ever growing due to the impacts of cuts to public funding, rising private rents, limited social housing and cuts to housing benefit. Research has shown that many owners have been asked to give up their pet in order to get accommodation. Homeless people will rarely agree to go into a hostel without their pet choosing instead to remain in extreme vulnerability and depravation on the streets.

Role Summary

This is a new position at Street Paws which has been created to support ongoing projects in the Greater Manchester region. The role involves assisting the Operations Manager in expanding current projects, such as incorporating hostels into our Dog Champion Scheme and developing the new volunteering scheme nationally. Responsibilities include recruiting volunteers, providing support and guidance, and fostering positive relationships to enhance the volunteer experience.

Role Description

Based in the Greater Manchester area, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Operations Manager with the delivery, administration, and support of Street Paws’ work nationally. The role will support the onboarding of new partners and the management of existing partners, including suppliers and contacts. They will be a point of contact for internal and external enquiries.

The Project Coordinator will support and develop our new volunteer programme, including recruitment and retention of volunteers, volunteer inductions, and training. Street Paws is a small team, and as such, we expect people to be highly flexible in their roles and willing to turn their hand to anything that needs to be done.

Responsibilities

• Promote the charity’s work nationally.
• Respond to internal and external enquiries regarding the charity’s projects and services.
• Actively seek out, develop, and maintain partnerships to strengthen the charity’s projects.
• Ensure each onboarded partner is aware of our services.
• Support the Operations Manager in the expansion of the charity’s projects to new partners and areas.
• Support the Operations Manager with the onboarding of hostels.
• Lead on the development of our volunteer programme.
• Responsible for all aspects of volunteer support; advice, guidance, recruitment, training, induction and onward volunteer management.
• Establish positive relationships with volunteers to ensure that they have a fulfilling volunteering experience.
• Design information gathering format for feedback, and statistics from partners and volunteers.
• Contribute content ideas and create copy for social media content, articles, blogs, and a quarterly newsletter for volunteers and supporters.
• Provide feedback to the Street Paws CEO to report on the charity’s KPIs.
• Travel to hostel locations as required to support hostel partners and volunteers.
• Support partnerships across the Greater Manchester area and attend sessions to provide support for people with pets.

ABOUT THE ROLE

SIG Equinox – Brighton Women’s Service is a dedicated, female-only residential project offering varying levels of support—low, medium, and high—to women who have experienced homelessness, substance use, involvement with the criminal justice system, mental health challenges, and domestic abuse. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment where women can recover and rebuild their lives, empowering them to achieve long-term stability and well-being.

We are currently seeking a Deputy Service Manager for our Women's Service. We are looking for someone who is truly committed to the rights of women. This role offers the opportunity to support and manage our team, driving high-quality, trauma-informed care for our residents. The service provides a much-needed safe space and support for women to feel empowered in their healing journey and to feel secure in their independence, strength, and skills.

The successful candidate will help lead the service, which spans over 2 buildings, and will develop their team, consisting of support mentors and family workers. We are seeking a passionate, driven, and motivated individual to lead this service in a trauma-informed and inclusive way.

Shift/Working pattern: 22.5 hours a week - In service Monday 8 - 4pm, Tuesday 8 - 4pm, Thursday 8 - 4pm

• Support the Service Manager with the overall day-to-day operational delivery of your service, working directly with your team, colleagues, residents and participants, as well as other stakeholders.

• Support the team and service to meet and exceed Key Performance Indicators, and work in line with professional codes of conduct.
• Empower residents and participants to make decisions to take control over their lives, by creating an enabling environment.
• Be part of the operational on-call Rota for providing out-of-hours support across the operations directorate.

Risk Management

• Follow relevant risk assessment and management procedures, share relevant information with others as necessary.
• Alongside the Service Manager, champion, and act as a point of reference for safeguarding concerns within the service(s). Ensure all staff attend relevant safeguarding and training and use knowledge to coach and advise the team.

Property and Housing Management

• Ensure the accommodation in which residents live is clean and maintained to a high standard
• Ensure a provision of high quality housing management service is provided to residents. 

Financial Management

• Support the Service Manager in managing the service budget and review monthly management accounts: Set budgets and ensure resources are maximised.
• Promote effective cost control mechanisms and other financial activities.
• Maintain financial management within the service.

Other

• Some of what else is included: Contract management and Internal auditing, admin, and general other duties as required.

About the role:

This role is home and office based, with travel throughout London. Lead on the development of responses to the needs of male victim/survivors with housing and immigration needs within London and the development of relationships with partner agencies in this area.Effectively manage and develop a high quality, innovative and pro-active domestic abuse team.Ensure that the service prioritises the safety, security and dignity of service users and their children

You will need:

• You will need a passion for working with victim/survivors and a thorough understanding of domestic abuse and its impact.
• Knowledge of the issues facing Men, women and children affected by violence against women and girls along with the ability to identify victim/survivor individual needs
• Have a thorough understanding of migration and asylum routes inclusive of international and UK law and rights and the procedures for applying for refugee/asylum status in the UK
• Experience of working with housing agencies or in a housing setting in the context of domestic abuse to provide advice
• A thorough understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and harmful practices and its impact specifically on men but inclusive of the significant impact on women, children, families, and communities.
• Experience of managing a team delivering front line support to victims or domestic abuse or vulnerable people to a high standard
• To be Non-judgemental, non-directive and anti-discriminatory approach to empowering victim/survivors of domestic abuse
• The ability to speak Sylheti/Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Turkish, Kurdish, Polish, Gujarati, Somali, Yoruba, Akan, French, Lingala, Igbo or Arabic is desirable.

Team: Fundraising

Location: Hybrid – at our office (Argon House, Argon Mews, London SW6 1BJ) and remotely at home.

Responsible for: Line manager to Fundraising Officer (Events and Community) as well as manage the events budget

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Overview of the role

The postholder will be responsible for our events, community fundraising and corporate partnerships.

What you will do as part of our team

Strategic Planning

• Work with the Head of Fundraising & Major Donors and the other Fundraising Managers to refine and develop our established fundraising strategy to maximise income from events, community fundraising and corporate partnerships against an annual target.
• Develop our annual programme of events, including cultivation, stewardship and fundraising events, whether virtual or physical.

Events Management

• Overall responsibility for the design, planning and implementation of all Glass Door events, including our flagship fundraising event, the Sleep Out in the Square, and our annual supporter thank you event.
• Conduct an evaluation after each event, considering its successes, factors which could be improved and any recommendations moving forward.
• Oversee the Fundraising Officer as they support with the co-ordination and implementation of events.
• Ensure health and safety is at the core of all event planning and implementation.
• Manage our challenge events portfolio and identify new opportunities which could increase Glass Door’s income

Corporate Partnerships

• Pitch for corporate support including commercial partnerships, charity of the year relationships and sponsorship.
• Manage a portfolio of corporate partnerships, working with companies where the focus is on employee fundraising and volunteering, cause related marketing and/or pro bono support.
• Develop a Corporate prospect pipeline, reengaging lapsed donors from our database, and identifying new prospective partners.

Community Fundraising

• Oversee our work with community groups, supporting the Fundraising Officer, ensuring we provide necessary stewardship, support and guidance.
• Local churches are big supporters of our work. Support the Fundraising Officer to maintain excellent relationships and support them with events
• Establish a new community fundraising product, as an additional or alternative option to our flagship event Sleep Out

Policies and regulation

• Stay well informed of existing and new fundraising legislation and guidance from the Fundraising Regulator, ensure this is regularly communicated to the wider Fundraising team and forms the basis of Glass Door’s Fundraising Policy
• Ensure all charity fundraising activity (including "in aid of" events) is compliant with relevant charity and statutory legislation and the Code of Fundraising Practice.
• Ensure the Fundraising Policy is kept up to date across the organisation

Other

• Build excellent working relationship with existing donors, the Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders who help promote the charity.

We are seeking an energetic, personable and insightful individual with experience of managing complex events and developing positive, fruitful relationships with corporate and community fundraisers.  You will be a confident and friendly self-starter, who takes initiative to get things done.

Essential

Knowledge & Experience

• Experience managing complex events delivering six figure income targets
• Demonstrable success in securing income from a range of fundraising streams, including corporate, events and community
• Understanding and experience of developing and stewarding relationships with supporters of all kinds, from event attendees and community fundraisers to senior company executives

In this role you’ll be both strategic and hands-on, solely managing the financial controls for this small charity with a £350k annual turnover.  You will support the Director and senior management team through your management of financial processes, policy and planning.

This will include using accountancy software to process income and expenditure, producing management accounts for the senior management team and Board, and ensuring the charity reports to its key funders, including Arts Council England. 

You’ll process payroll for our small team of 6 employees, taking care of liaison with HMRC as well as handling external audit and company filing.

About the role

Working closely with the Programme Officer for Training, the Training Manager will manage the training function, leading the delivery and continuous improvement whilst managing key relationships ranging from associate trainers who deliver training on behalf of Student Minds to external organisations who wish to purchase training.
