We are looking to recruit an exceptional Area Manager to provide direction and leadership to support the continued modernization and growth our retail operations. The Area Manager will support a passionate and committed retail team to deliver profit, promote fundraising and support eye health and public awareness. They will ensure that the business is run in a robust, transparent, compliant and efficient way in line with our values – whilst contributing expertise and energy to the wider charity.

Role Responsibilities:

Strategy, planning and growth

· Track progress against plans and budgets, and support shop teams to adapt, phase and prioritise work where appropriate.

· Ensure that broad and long-term thinking is brought to decision making and avoid reactionary behaviour, whilst capitalising on arising opportunities.

· Support the delivery of a five-year Retail Strategy (2024 – 2028), to include:

o The professionalisation of our systems and processes to capitalise on all income opportunities.

o Putting a positive customer experience at the heart of our approach.

o Delivering income upwards of £2.5m per annum with year-on-year growth to £10.6m by 2028/29.

o Deliver Gift Aid targets across all shops.

o Assist the Retail Development Manager in launching new shops.

o Utilise digital and social media to drive footfall and stock donations.

o Support fundraising through the shops, including legacy and IG marketing.

o Tailor each shop in the portfolio to maximise the potential of its unique location and its role in the business – including exploration of clearance, vintage, furniture and books.

o Create a framework of retail standards of excellence and ensure shops are managed and maintained to those standards.

 

 

Sales and Profit

 

• Monitor and be accountable for sales and category performance, as well as ensure that the team are aware of and engaged in the area financial performance
• Foster a creative and entrepreneurial environment where team members seek to maximise income in new and innovative ways both within their shops and through a variety of channels, such as community events
• Drive the team to maximise income from Gift Aid on donated products
• Ensure that all financial procedures are adhered to and executed in a timely fashion by the shop teams

Shop Floor

 

• Ensure sourcing sufficient levels of donated stock locally in collaboration with the shop management and Retail Partnerships team
• Ensure compliance with efficient and commercially successful stock processing systems (such as pricing, quality standards, consumer safety, stock density and culling stock), including backroom systems and ensure these are adhered to by the volunteer team. Ensure that all legal and internal regulations regarding donated stock are adhered to
• Inspire the team to provide a great customer and donor experience, which enables us to attract new supporters every day. Ensure that feedback, including complaints are escalated to the Director of Retail within the agreed timeframes
• Empower the team to work in partnership with the Visual Merchandising Manager to create original, appropriate and commercially successful visual merchandising displays, including shop windows
• Make sure that all procedures for the sale of new and donated corporate products are followed by the volunteer team
• Work with the Director of Retail to ensure our shops are in good condition, maximise their potential and are fit for purpose
• Provide a safe and healthy working environment and ensure that all team members are aware of and operate within our health and safety policies and procedures, including waste management and customer safety

 

Leadership – Volunteers

 

• Support the Volunteer Manager and shop management teams to recruit, induct, and retain an inclusive and diverse volunteer team, which is large enough in numbers and capable to maximise income and profitability and guarantee the smooth running of the area.
• Maintain an empowered, well trained, motivated and engaged volunteer team with excellent levels of communication at team and individual level.

· Define and develop our retail volunteer programme to ensure first rate volunteer experience, engagement, and great customer experience.

• Connect the volunteer team with our work and help them to understand the value of their contribution.

 

Leadership - Paid Staff

 

· Support members of the charity retail team to embed a high performing, motivated, collaborative, creative and dynamic culture – and seek opportunities to celebrate success

South East London Mind are working in partnership with Bridge Support and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust to deliver the Greenwich Mental Health Hub.  This forms part of the new transformation of mental health services in the Royal Borough of Greenwich under the NHS Long Term Plan. The service brings together the expertise of local primary, secondary and voluntary sector mental health care providers with the aim of providing flexible, holistic and integrated services for adults with mental health problems.

The integrated team provides support to people with long-term mental health problems within a primary care and community mental health setting, helping people develop their independence, self-management skills and achieve their recovery goals.

We are looking for a Mental Health Advisor with experience of working within mental health services including supporting prevention, recovery and self-management. Applicants should have experience of completing assessments, managing a diverse caseload, working in a busy work environment, and possess effective skills in communication. An ability to work independently but collaboratively, to be proactive and to show initiative is essential for this role.

The role will involve:

ABOUT THE EUROPEAN LEGAL SUPPORT CENTRE 

ELSC is an initiative of the Palestinian NGO Network, comprising 200 Palestinian civil society organisations, developed in response to the widespread repression in Europe of advocacy for Palestinian rights. Founded in January 2019, we provide free legal advice and assistance to individuals who face unjust smears, disciplinary investigations, criminal sanctions and other repressive measures aimed at shrinking the space for Palestinian rights advocacy in mainland Europe and Britain. ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Associate Solicitor will lead our legal team in Britain and oversee our cases in England and Wales. 

The role requires a qualified solicitor with experience of running litigious cases. Our main practice areas in Britain are: (i) public law and human rights; (ii) employment and discrimination and (iii) defamation law. The post-holder will have particular expertise in one of these areas. Our cases also involve data rights, freedom of information, criminal law, actions against the police, charity law, education law, international humanitarian law, and immigration issues. 

The post holder will manage a growing team that consists of a Legal Officer and a Junior Legal Officer. In addition, our British work team has an advocacy and communication officer and two researchers who monitor anti-Palestinian racism.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee all litigious and advisory casework in Britain alongside our junior legal staff and legal network. Provide expert legal advice and representation, to individual clients and movement partners.

• Manage our legal officers, providing training and feedback to them as appropriate. Collaborate closely with our legal network of solicitors and counsel with the goal of strengthening the wider movement. 

• ​​Develop and advance new legal strategies for challenging state and non-state repression of advocacy for Palestine in consultation with our legal network, national partners and experts. 

• Support the development of effective advocacy campaigns to increase the impact of litigation outside the courtroom.

• Support ELSC’s outreach and public engagement initiatives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Required experience, knowledge and skills

• 3 years + post-qualified experience (PQE) and admitted to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales.

• Experience leading on a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters, particularly in public, employment and/or defamation law. 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice on complex issues in a comprehensible and appropriate format. 

• An ability to engage with the law critically and develop strategies that serve broader political objectives. Track record of collaborating well with other lawyers, academics and civil society organisations.

• Excellent client care skills, particularly in relation to vulnerable or marginalised clients.

• Experience in a role which requires coordination of multiple projects and/or workstreams concurrently, and the ability to manage relationships with partner organisations, coalitions and counsel.

• High level of English-language proficiency.

• Commitment to the Palestinian liberation and solidarity movement.

Desirable experience, skills and knowledge

• Dual-qualified in Scotland and/or Northern Ireland.

• Ideal candidate will already have LAA Supervisor status or meet the requirements to do so

• Experience working with campaigning and advocacy organisations.

• Experience with management and organisational development.

Reporting to the Head of Policy and Public Affairs, as Media (Press) and Campaigns Manager you will create campaigns, partnerships and content that have innovation at their heart and support the organisation's advocacy goals. You'll work in close collaboration with the Marketing Communications team to grow reach and engagement across communication channels, delivering campaigns that mobilise support and leverage media opportunities.

• Identify and produce engaging stories for a wide range of national, sector and local media across England, Wales and Scotland, and work with colleagues internally to communicate this content across channels

This involves planning, delivering, and reporting back on community consultations, educational workshops, public tree-planting events and other activities.

Salary: Starting at £33,580 FTE per annum to £35,445 FTE per annum, Grade 3 point 26-28 - pro-rata for part-time hours

Location: Ideally based in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex or Greater London (north) with the ability to travel within this region.

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) or open to part-time (22 hours per week)

We are flexible on hours of work and open to discussing part-time hours and other flexible working options - it is expected that for the first 12 months after the role begins, travel to properties based in the above listed regions will be required several times per week.  After this period of time, we are open to this role being home-based or hybrid working with occasional ongoing travel required. This will be discussed in more detail with the successful applicant.

The Facilities department manages all Assets and Estates that Family Action own or lease across the whole organisation, overseeing all the services across England.

Working closely with the Head of Facilities, the successful post holder will be responsible for the management of Facilities Assets and the implementation of Health and Safety and Environmental Management in Family Action’s Central region (approx. 40 sites).  You will support with our assets across the whole of the charity, including supervising some external contractors.  You will be a confident communicator who is able to work under pressure, achieve targets and meet deadlines. And you will be comfortable working in a small team environment where priorities can change at short notice. 

Your skills

You will have a strong track record in delivering Facilities Management and a focus on quality, performance, safety, welfare and management controls. We want to hire a ‘can-do’ and energetic leader who will build and sustain positive working relationships with key internal customers, while developing partnerships that will continue to evolve and effectively meet the needs of the charity and every service user we support.

Main Responsibilities:

· Conduct Health and Safety site audits to a schedule across Family Action’s Central region.

· Support responsible managers with risk assessments across Family Action’s Central region.

· Support and give advice to local management teams regarding their Health & Safety system, through regular meetings and tickets raised within the Facilities helpdesk.

· To work closely with the Head of Facilities to develop corporate services for Family Action’s Central region sites.

· Help develop the Facilities departments’ JWA (SLA) and ensure they are consistently applied and regional measurables are reported to the Head of Facilities.

· Assist local management teams with planning and undertaking repairs and refurbishment as well as the day-to-day maintenance of Family Action assets (properties and equipment) in conjunction with the relevant budget holders and landlords.

· Monitor and respond to tickets raised within the Facilities helpdesk system (SalesForce), as well as all relevant emails sent to the Facilities mailboxes.

· Collaborate with stakeholders and suppliers, including the engagement of new suppliers and nurturing of existing relationships through meetings and KPIs.

Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):

· Member of IWFM to at minimum at Affiliate level (or equivalent).

· Trained to IOSH Managing Safely Level.

· Good working knowledge of standards and legislation applicable to Facilities Management.

· Experience of delivering site relocation and mobilisation projects.

· A friendly, helpful, and welcoming manner as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Experience of setting up new properties, developing systems, and manging projects.

· Experience with Office 365, One Drive, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

· Ability to organise own work and time, using own initiative and recognise matters that require urgent attention.

· Experience of working within a team providing a service to others.

· To work flexibly as may be required by the needs of the team and carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
