The successful candidate will be committed to helping people achieve their potential and will have the skills and experience to provide; 1-1 advice and guidance and group work and all aspects of employability support and upskilling. The role will work across two separate but complementary programmes, one of which focuses on the hospitality sector – experience or an understanding of the sector is not a requirement but may be beneficial. The second project is focused on supporting young people into work or Apprenticeships and the successful candidate will provide information, advice and guidance, along with practical skills training to participants along their learner journey.

IAG, Employability and Apprenticeship Support Delivery

• To be accountable for achieving agreed outcomes, outputs and personal targets – including recruitment, employability training and learner progression targets
• To manage a caseload of participants requiring Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG), confidence building and employability training
• Completing appropriate action plans and reviews with participants
• To act as the single point of contact for small caseload of participants

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established, dedicated and enthusiastic team supporting people with mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and depression to gain and retain employment.

Hillside Clubhouse operates an established Employment Advice (EA) service integrated into NHS Talking Therapies.  The programme aims to support Islington residents who are assessed within Talking Therapies and who require employment advice.

The EAs in Talking Therapies initiative was designed as an integrated employment and mental health service to improve both mental health and employment outcomes. EAs are part of the Talking Therapies team and work alongside therapists to provide employment support to assist clients remain in work, return to work, or find employment.  This takes the form of personalised support for the client backed up by an action plan detailing the client’s employment goals and the actions that the client, the therapist, and the EA agree to take to meet these goals.  

Overall aim 

Talking Therapies is an NHS Programme that provides evidence based psychological therapies to treat people with mild to moderate and moderate to severe depression and anxiety disorders.  

The new Employment Advisor (EA) will work within the Islington NHS Talking Therapies provision. They will work one-to-one with a caseload of between 25-35 clients referred by NHS Talking Therapies therapists to find employment, remain in existing work if they are struggling, improve their working environment, return to work following sickness or positively leave or retire from work. 

You will primarily fulfil these duties by providing information, advice and guidance to clients who choose to receive employment support. The support aims to empower clients to make better decisions about their working lives, as well as communicate better with colleagues and managers in existing roles. You will also signpost clients to other relevant support agencies, as appropriate. 

This role would suit someone with a background in employment support, psychology, counselling, human resources, recruitment, or a desire to transfer their skills into the mental health support sector.  

Method of working 

EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

1. Engage a mixed caseload of clients at any given time serving 100-125 per year, with common mental health problems, to establish trusting, collaborative relationships to support them to find new employment or support them in, or to leave, existing employment. Support will be provided face-to-face in Talking Therapies settings, via secure online meeting platforms or over the telephone. 

2. Along with their NHS clinician, assess clients’ support needs with a view to creating, implementing, and adjusting a personalised action plan to help improve clients’ mental health and achieve their stated employment goals.

3. Develop and deliver a range of practical services to support clients to find work, including career guidance, job searching skills, CV preparation, application form completion, interview skills, advice on local labour market opportunities and advice on education and training to further their career. 

4. Provide guidance to support clients to stay in existing work, including advice on mental health disclosure, negotiating reasonable adjustments to existing workplaces, creating wellness action plans, and improving productivity, support to return to work after sickness absence or to leave an existing role with dignity, and signpost clients to organisations that can represent them (EAs should only look to represent clients in exceptional circumstances). 

5. Facilitate access to other advice in areas such as financial benefits, debt management, food banks and community food outlets and social housing providers, as necessary. 

6. Work directly with partners like Jobcentre Plus, other employment providers, employers, trade unions and employment agencies to support clients to stay in employment and secure employment opportunities. 

7. Build a constant flow of referrals from the clinical team to ensure a dynamic and mixed caseload.

8. Meet referral and performance targets in line with the specific KPI / SLA requirements of the service. 

9. Regularly attend team and other meetings as reasonably expected. 

10. Maintain accurate and up to date records of activity and outcomes in line with service requirements, ensuring both the NHS and Hillside Clubhouse databases are kept up to date and paperwork compliant.

11. Receive regular supervision and training to meet individual, team and organisation’s needs. 

12. Contribute to the development of a service that is locally responsive and supports minority/disadvantaged communities.

13. Comply with and actively promote all Hillside policies and procedures including Equality and Diversity, safeguarding and data protection. 

14. Perform other tasks as required by your manager. 

The role holder must also: 

1. Pass a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an Enhanced level. 

2. Possess excellent IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software, as well as experience updating and maintaining databases.

About the Role

This interim role will play a pivotal part in the future of the charity by leading the team and our network of local partnerships to support those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

This high-impact role requires an independent and strategic leader who can balance managing existing partnerships with identifying and cultivating new opportunities and exploring options for a sustainable future for the charity.

We anticipate this role is needed initially for a six- month period to complete an options appraisal for the future. A longer-term appointment is possible, depending on the outcome of the appraisal.

About the Responsibilities

Manage existing SSN locations:

• Manage relationships with existing locations and strengthen engagement with them, ensuring they receive tailored support and we receive maximum income.
• Use our CRM system to track partnership engagement, including relationship status, history and payments. This will likely include engaging with partners regarding outstanding payments.
• Host and facilitate quarterly online network events to encourage collaboration amongst SSN locations. Support our locations with managing their data integrity. This will include recruiting and managing volunteers. Measure and report on impact using Theory of Change and other metrics, both internally and for our partners. Be responsive to enquiries from potential new partnerships.

Support the Street Support Network Team:

• Provide appropriate support and direction to the two team members.
• Host and lead regular team meetings to ensure communication, engagement and collaboration.
• Meet regularly with Chair of Trustees and Finance Advisor. Prepare Reports for Trustees and attend Trustee meetings to present advice and support actions agreed.

Income Maximisation and Fundraising:

• Work closely with our Finance Advisor to maximise fee income from existing SSN locations.
• Collaborate with our external fundraiser to identify additional funding opportunities and submit compelling grant applications to supplement fee income covering the charities’ core costs.
• Provide guidance to local partners on their fundraising initiatives and grant applications to meet their SSN fees.

Explore and present an options appraisal for the future of Street Support Network:

• Work with Trustees, team and external partners to explore options for the future of SSN to include options for expansion and development of new products and services or for consolidation.
• Collect evidence and undertake stakeholder consultation and provide written reports to Trustees to help with decision making.
• Develop action plans for taking strategy forward.

About You

Essential Requirements:

• Significant knowledge and experience of the homelessness and charitable sectors
• Strong leadership skills and ability to manage, lead and motivate a small dedicated team

About the role

The Research Funding Manager is responsible for leading AMRC’s work to support charities to fund research well. You will work closely with AMRC’s member charities to provide guidance, advice and training to enable charities to fund high quality impactful research in universities and the NHS. As a Carers Hospital Support Co-Ordinator, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and supporting carers who’s relative, friend or neighbour is in hospital or receiving treatment at either the Royal London Hospital or the Homerton Hospital. You will be responsible for coordinating vital services, offering guidance, and creating a supportive environment to help carers cope with the challenges they may face whilst their cared-for is in hospital.

• Identification and Support: Proactively identify carers of patients admitted to, either the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel or the Homerton Hospital in Hackney, and provide them with tailored support, ensuring their well-being is prioritised. 

• Information and Guidance: Offer information about available hospital resources, support services, and community networks to assist carers effectively. 

• Communication Liaison: Facilitate communication between clinical staff and carers, ensuring they are kept informed about the patient's condition, treatment plan, and discharge process. 

• Emotional Support: Provide compassionate emotional support to carers, listening to their concerns and offering a caring presence during difficult times. 

• Training and Education: Organise workshops and peer support groups to equip carers with essential skills for their caregiving role.

Role outline and purpose

This role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of our financial inclusion programmes across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, (428 food banks, running over 1300 centres), building strong partnerships and alliances to achieve our vision of a UK without the need for food banks.

Leading on the development and delivery of our programme and influencing work on a range of issues including income maximisation, welfare rights, social security, debt and financial inclusion, capturing evidence to demonstrate the need for long-term solutions to prioritise people facing destitution and deliver real change for people in crisis.

Role responsibilities

· Proactive and effective contribution to the Senior Leadership Team towards the achievement of our overall organisational strategy, with direct responsibility for leading on the second key objective of our Changing Communities theme.

· Development and delivery of an innovative income maximisation helpline across England and Wales, in collaboration with the Citizens Advice England & Wales, along with other key organisations in the anti-poverty sector, offering immediate telephone advice and support to people facing crisis through c130 FTE trained specialist advice workers.

· Development and delivery of income maximisation programmes in NI and Scotland to support people in crisis to access advice and holistic support

· Lead and develop a high-performing team of c25 in order to support every food bank to develop and execute a strategic plan in each of their communities, that seeks to improve the local referral pathways, putting advice at the front end of the journey for people in crisis, to include the delivery of a strategic grant programme of c. £15 million to embed financial inclusion initiatives.

· Ensure that all financial inclusion service provision is underpinned by sustained and meaningful participation from people with lived experience, ensuring the journey of the person in crisis is continuously improved through utilising data and sector learning on best practice for effective service delivery across channels, considering barriers, gaps and referral pathways

· Establish specialist data and insight analysis function, capturing return on investment, performance and impact of national and local services and partnerships, and providing clear and actionable insights to drive informed decision making to deliver improved experience and outcomes for people in crisis. 

Person Specification

Technical skills and minimum knowledge:

· Demonstrable, senior level experience of leading delivery programmes nationally and locally, and of creating step-change growth in service reach and impact.

· Complex project or programme management, including through cross-functional management teams to drive change.

· Ability to establish credibility quickly with a range of stakeholders, with the influencing and clear communications skills to compellingly advocate to staff, and external stakeholders.
