Can you inspire and bring a team together? We need leaders to bring together the Parkinson’s UK community locally in line with the charity's values. Local groups across the UK are run by volunteers and offer friendship and support to people living with Parkinson's and their families and friends.

As a forward thinking and dynamic Branch Chair you'll provide leadership to the group, from liasing with the wider charity to bringing out the best in the lead volunteer team. You’ll be the driving force in ensuring your local team of volunteers has the greatest possible impact on those affected by Parkinson's in your area.

What you will be doing

• Be an ambassador for Team Parkinson’s - engaging with local staff, volunteers, and your local community, to ensure the group has the greatest possible impact on those affected by Parkinson's in your area
• Staying up to date with news and developments of Parkinson's UK, actively sharing them with the group and supporting them to operate within Parkinson's UK guidelines
• Making the best use of the skills and strengths of other volunteers, delegating where necessary and working as a team to meet the needs of local people affected by Parkinson's
• Be responsible for keeping up with training, leading by example to encourage others to do the same and carrying out your role in line with the Parkinson’s UK Volunteering Agreement and Parkinson’s UK values

The skills you need

• Strong leadership, organisational, delegation and communication skills
• The ability to lead meetings and the group in an open and inclusive way, making decisions that take into account and respond effectively to multiple viewpoints

Role description: Trustee (x3)

BUBIC (Bringing Unity Back Into the Community) continues to grow and evolve, we are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

Role overview: As a Trustee, you will be jointly responsible with other Board members for directing BUBIC’s affairs. You will ensure that the organisation is solvent, well-run, and delivering the outcomes for which it has been set up. You will safeguard and promote the values and mission of BUBIC, determine its strategy and structure, and ensure that it operates effectively, responsibly, and accountably. Additionally, you will ensure the effective functioning of BUBIC’s Board of Trustees and act in line with the Seven Principles of Public Life (available on gov uk)

Key responsibilities:

• Attend at least monthly Board and other meetings.
• Participate in one or more Board sub-groups.
• Scrutinise Board papers and other communications.
• Lead and contribute to discussions, providing guidance based on your specific skills, knowledge, and expertise.
• Abide by BUBIC’s policies and procedures.
• Act as a signatory where required.
• Promote BUBIC to our beneficiaries, funders, and the wider public.

Treasurer-specific responsibilities: For our Treasurer, we are looking for someone who:

• Has a strong working knowledge of financial management of companies, and if this is not specifically charity finance, is willing to learn more.
• Can explain financial information to others who have less financial expertise.
• Is willing to convene our finance sub-group.

About you

You have a strong personal commitment to the BUBIC’s aims and objectives. You will bring specific skills, knowledge and expertise to the role including one or more of the following:

• experienced Finance Director ideally a qualified accountant
• lived experience (people who are in recovery from, and family members affected by, problem alcohol or drug use)
• HR
• fundraising
• health and social care
• social enterprise
• social researcher
• communications
• legal/contract law

The Pelvic Radiation Disease Association (PRDA) is looking for a Chair of Trustees to provide strategic leadership for the charity, working in partnership with our Operations Manager and supported by a committed team of Trustees.

Who we are

Pelvic Radiation Disease (PRD) is a long-term side-effect (‘late effect’) of pelvic radiotherapy treatment affecting an estimated 100,000 people in the UK.  People affected by PRD often have a complex set of symptoms affecting the bowel, bladder, sexual function or other functions for many years after radiotherapy, sometimes only appearing several years after radiotherapy treatment

PRDA is a small UK charity whose objectives are to see that the effects of PRD are minimised, that people affected by PRD are given the best possible care and treatment, and that PRD is accepted as a serious problem and given the attention it deserves.

Duties of the Chair

In addition to the duties of a Trustee, the Chair will:

• Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that PRDA achieves its mission.
• Work in partnership with the Operations Manager and team to achieve our mission.
• Lead the board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation.
• Optimise the relationship between the board and PRDA’s staff and volunteers.
• Plan and chair the board meetings and the AGM, with others as appropriate.
• Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for PRDA. 

What PRDA is looking for

Each trustee must have:

• a commitment to the vision and aims of the Pelvic Radiation Disease Association
• willingness to meet the minimum time requirement 
• integrity 
• strategic vision 
• good, independent judgement 
• an ability to think creatively 
• a willingness to speak their mind 
• an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship 
• an ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions for the good of PRDA.

Ideally, trustees should also have one or more of the following: 

• Understanding of the impact of Pelvic Radiation Disease on people’s lives either through personal or professional connections, or be willing to learn about this; 
• Prior experience of committee/trustee work; 
• Knowledge of the type of work undertaken by PRDA (helpline, support groups, online support, health professional engagement, awareness-raising) and/or fundraising for a small charity, and
• Leadership skills.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the Brighton and Worthing Group. As our local group Activities Organiser you’ll play a crucial role in developing and planning activities and events with your local group. You’ll be responsible for creating and coordinating an annual calendar of events and making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication, administration and negotiation skills. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

A bit about this role

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our Cat Adoption Team Leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our Cat Adoption Team Leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat adoption enquiries via email / telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other branch volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the Cat Welfare Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The Cat Adoption Team Leader role is vital within our busy volunteer branches and centres. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

About Arts Students’ Union 

Arts Students’ Union is membership organisation and registered charity. We deliver high quality services, representation, and support for over 22,000 students across London at the University of the Arts London. We work very closely with the University but are independent in the way we operate and are governed. 

We believe in the power of students. Our elected Student Officers and Trustees provide strategic direction and leadership to over 35 permanent staff, 50 student staff and thousands of volunteers to deliver across 6 Colleges across London. 

Our membership is wonderfully varied in its range of study from artists, designers and performers as well as being hugely diverse with students from all over the world coming to study at UAL’s prestigious colleges. 

We are delighted to be inviting applications for candidates to fill 2 Trustee positions with skills and background in Students’ Unions and/or Volunteer Sector, Creative Sector, Strategic Development, People Development and Health & Safety. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Ensuring the organisation is focused on its charitable objects.  

• Ensuring the organisation is financially viable, balancing income and expenditure and considering the long-term resourcing needs of the Charity alongside requirements to support shorter term projects.  

• Supporting the staff team of the Charity through scrutiny and guidance of senior management, principally through the appraisal and direction of the Chief Executive Officer but also through putting in place appropriate training and  development measures for staff.  

• Making sure good governance principles are followed and that the Charity’s constitution and rules are followed and, where needed, reviewed and enhanced.

• A specific consideration of Safeguarding principles and practice.  

• Making themselves accountable and transparent to the beneficiaries, a role led by the Officer Trustees but that all members of the board should be prepared to respond to.  

• Ensuring that board members, as a group and individually, are working in the best interests of the charity as a whole.
