What you will be doing

• Lead engaging and interactive musical sessions aimed at fostering creativity, relaxation, and joy among our members who are struggling with their mental health
• To prepare music sessions, involving individuals in the planning process where possible
• Inspire and motivate individuals to develop their musical skills, assisting them in the creation of their projects and supporting them to brainstorm and use their own initiative
• Provide a supportive space for individuals to explore and enjoy music.
• Encourage individuals to continue independent activities

The skills you need

• Experience of Music either in a professional, educational, or personal level
• Able to collaborate with individuals to plan a music group session and facilitate confidently
• A calm and patient manner
• Ability to provide a trusting, open, kind-hearted atmosphere that encourages learning and participation
• An effective communicator with a patient and sympathetic nature
• Ability to handle individuals with complex needs and work with a person-centred approach

The Board and Leadership team at Charity People is thrilled to be partnering with Amnesty International UK on their 2025 Board Recruitment.

Amnesty International UK:

Amnesty International UK operates in the UK as two distinct legal entities: Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust (‘the Charitable Trust’), and Amnesty International United Kingdom Section (‘the UK Section’). Each entity is governed by its own Board with the two working together and co-operating but remaining independent. Each Board operates and makes decisions based on the long-term interests of their respective entity and within the constraints imposed by applicable UK law, their separate constitutions and the overall rules of the global Amnesty International movement.

Nominations Sub-Committee (NSC)):

The Nominations Sub-Committee (NSC) is a Board Committee of both Amnesty International United Kingdom Section (‘Section’) and Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust (‘Trust’).

The purpose of the Nominations Sub-Committee is to assist the Amnesty International UK Section and Trust and staff. It oversees the recruitment and election or appointment of Chairs, Vice Chairs, and the Chief Executive, ensuring that these persons hold the required expertise and experience. NSC shall work to ensure that AIUK’s governance and SMT are diverse, inclusive, equitable, and anti-racist.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assess the skills and experience of candidates for elected positions on the Board, in the light of identified needs. It will inform the Members of its assessment, in order to assist their decision-making.
• Assess the skills and experience of applicants for Board appointments and nominations, in order to provide recommendations to the Board.
• Advise the Board on induction and training requirements, of a general or specific nature, that will support an individual’s development and effective contribution.
• Work with the Board, Board sub-committees and Trust to understand leadership needs and the skills, knowledge, diversity and experience requirements.

Time commitment:

• The Nominations Sub-Committee shall meet at least two times per year but may arrange any additional meetings that are required to discharge its responsibilities

With the launch of our new 5 year strategy and with some retirements coming up on the Board, we are looking to expand our Board and bring in new expertise to help us navigate this next chapter.

The Role of a Trustee

Trustees at Chailey Heritage Foundation play a crucial role in shaping our strategy, ensuring our financial resilience, and maintaining the high standards that define our work. This is a critical time for us as we adapt to a changing landscape in education, healthcare, and social care. We need Trustees who are not only passionate about our mission but who can bring insight, leadership and challenge to our discussions.

About the role.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with experience in the following areas – you could come with a variety of the following skills:

• Education, SEND: experience in special educational needs, disability policy, or practice
• Clinical: medical, nursing, therapy, or allied health professions
• Social Care: understanding of policy, and best practice in social care for children and adults
• Safeguarding: understanding of safeguarding of children and adults
• Finance: a Chartered Accountant with recent or current leadership experience
• Digital: IT, data, or technology transformation including assistive technology

A Rewarding Commitment

The role of a Trustee is voluntary but highly rewarding. On average, Trustees contribute around one day per month to the role, attending at least three Board meetings per year and participating in one or more sub-committees focused on key areas such as safeguarding, finance and quality standards. Overall, including ad hoc conversation with Board Members and the executive, we expect the time commitment to be the equivalent of a day a month.

Interviews will include a tour and round-table discussion with a small panel consisting of the Chair of Trustees, CEO, and one other Trustee relevant to the skills we are seeking.

You will be joining a highly engaged, committed group of professionals who work together to ensure that Chailey Heritage Foundation continues to make a life-changing impact.
