Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.

Throughout the role, you will receive refresher training as required as well as ongoing support, reimbursement for role-related expenses and the opportunity to further shape the volunteering you do.

About The Role
At WWT, we are aiming to inspire the next generation of nature-lovers. We believe the best way of doing this is to foster emotional connections to nature at our sites and where people live.
One of the ways we do this is through our learning programme and in particular Generation Wild, our flagship nature connection project for children and families from disadvantaged communities. In this role, you will be engaging our younger visitors by bringing the life-sized puppet 'Ava' to life, as part of this project. As a puppeteer, you are key to making the experience a truly magical one for the children.
We are currently looking for volunteers who are available to help out on weekdays.
Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.
About You
This role will suit you if:
- You are passionate about inspiring children to develop an emotional connection with nature.
- You enjoy performing and being in-character in front of visitors and enjoy working with a range of ages.
- You are reasonably extrovert and have good stamina! The puppet is quite heavy to operate. Previous puppetry / theatre experience would be beneficial but is in no way essential.
- You have experience either in an educational setting or in an environment involving children. This would be useful, but not essential.

The Role of a Trustee
Trustees at Chailey Heritage Foundation play a crucial role in shaping our strategy, ensuring our financial resilience, and maintaining the high standards that define our work. This is a critical time for us as we adapt to a changing landscape in education, healthcare, and social care. We need Trustees who are not only passionate about our mission but who can bring insight, leadership and challenge to our discussions.
About the role.
We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with experience in the following areas – you could come with a variety of the following skills:
- Education, SEND: experience in special educational needs, disability policy, or practice
- Clinical: medical, nursing, therapy, or allied health professions
- Social Care: understanding of policy, and best practice in social care for children and adults
- Safeguarding: understanding of safeguarding of children and adults
- Finance: a Chartered Accountant with recent or current leadership experience
- Digital: IT, data, or technology transformation including assistive technology
A Rewarding Commitment
The role of a Trustee is voluntary but highly rewarding. On average, Trustees contribute around one day per month to the role, attending at least three Board meetings per year and participating in one or more sub-committees focused on key areas such as safeguarding, finance and quality standards. Overall, including ad hoc conversation with Board Members and the executive, we expect the time commitment to be the equivalent of a day a month.
Interviews will include a tour and round-table discussion with a small panel consisting of the Chair of Trustees, CEO, and one other Trustee relevant to the skills we are seeking.
We understand that joining a Board is a significant commitment, which is why we provide a comprehensive induction programme and ongoing support to ensure new Trustees feel confident in their role. You will be joining a highly engaged, committed group of professionals who work together to ensure that Chailey Heritage Foundation continues to make a life-changing impact.

At Home-Start Birmingham Central and South-West we are seeking a trustee to contribute their expertise and experience to act as Treasurer to the Scheme. Working with the Scheme Manager to oversee the financial management of the Scheme, you will ensure proper financial recording and effective financial procedures are in place. You will also monitor and report on the financial health of the Scheme and oversee the production of financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.
As a Trustee with Treasury focus, you will liaise with trustees and relevant staff, in particular, the Scheme Manager, to oversee the financial viability of the Scheme, make fellow trustees aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them. · Monitoring levels of restricted and unrestricted reserves, in liaison with the Scheme Manager;

Our Family Friend volunteers work directly with families by coming alongside parents and children when they need it most, making sure they feel less isolated. This can involve sharing a hot drink to hear about their day; helping a single dad or mum to get out of their home to a local park; or doing an activity with their children that would brighten up their day.
Every family support is unique to you and the family to help them achieve their goals, and always with your agreement. Practically speaking, being a Family Friend is a flexible role that can be fitted in with your other commitments and doesn't have to take up much of your time.
You will be trained and supported by a local Engagement and Support Coordinator and Family Support Manager who will support you throughout your volunteer recruitment journey and whilst you are volunteering.

Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.
