To deliver our mission we need to support our workforce to develop and grow, no matter how they learn or what their needs may be. We are looking for a volunteer to join our Learning and Development team to support us in achieving this goal.

You will play a pivotal part in ensuring our content is accessible to individuals of all abilities, thereby fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Initially, you will support us reviewing our mandatory compliance courses to help us make them more accessible. Your observations and insights will be invaluable in supporting us to make continuous improvements.

The types of things you will be involved in but not limited to are:

• Support us to evaluate the current accessibility of our training courses, resources, and materials.
• Collaborate with content creators to integrate accessibility best practices into the design and development process.
• Use your previous experience to offer guidance on the use of assistive technologies and adaptive strategies.
• To support the team to promote awareness of accessibility best practices for staff and volunteers via creation of resources, providing information to assist in knowledge sessions or one-to-one advice within the team.
• To help advocate for the importance of accessibility within the organisation.

We are flexible and open to discussing how much time you can commit to the role and, as the expert in this field, what you think will be needed.

The role is very much open to being home based with opportunities to visit our Bristol or London offices if located nearby.

Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker

Position: Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker – Women  

Location: Outreach base within Mansfield and Ashfield – Office base NIDAS, Suite1B Birch House, Ransom Wood, Southwell Road West, Mansfield NG21 0HJ

Salary:  Starting salary £23,541 (FTE), increasing to £25,039 (FTE) on completion of probation period

We have an exciting position to join the dedicated team at NIDAS. We pride ourselves on our person centred approach and we are continually striving to improve, develop and create services to improve the lives of families affected by domestic abuse. We are looking for a dynamic individual that will provide a non-judgmental, non-directive, emotional and practical support to women living in the districts of Mansfield and Ashfield who have been impacted by domestic abuse.

NIDAS Nottinghamshire Independent Domestic Abuse Service is a specialist family support service that’s supports women and families that have been affected by Domestic Abuse. We have been working in Mansfield and Ashfield for over thirty years.

Main duties:

• Provide a safe, environment in which to provide support.
• Maintain accurate case files and records of all communication in line with safeguarding and data protection legislation
• Take a person centred approach to provide support to clients addressing their immediate and long term support needs
• Identify risk using the SafeLives DASH assessment toolkit and refer to the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) as appropriate.
• Work in a trauma informed way with members of the family.
• Provide emotional and practical support, drawing on strengths within their capacity to meet their potential. 
• Safety planning and referrals to external agencies for support.
• Advocacy for families ensuring their wishes and feelings are heard, and support agencies understand the complexities and impact of domestic abuse
• Support the wider team during annual leave/sickness.
• Engage in regular case reviews with the wider team/management to work through complex cases and offer insights from experience to overcome challenges together.
• Be able manage own caseload and know and communicate limitations.
• To have continual high regard for the use and communication of client and agency data that complies with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
• To promote and support equality and empowerment within all areas of work.

You will be a dynamic self-starter playing a key role in the development and growth of the Family Service. You will be empathic and ensure that the voice of the survivor is heard and that it feeds into the strategic direction of the organisation to promote a client led vision.

About CARAS:

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a charity that supports refugees and asylum-seekers living in south-west London. We work primarily with people who are newly arrived in the UK, most of whom are living in temporary Home Office accommodation. Arriving as a refugee in the UK can be a terrifying and disempowering experience. Difficulties with language barriers, accessing services, financial insecurity and ongoing uncertainty are extremely challenging and disempowering. CARAS is here to work collaboratively with community members to support them to build skills, connect meaningfully with their local community, and to build positive futures in the UK. 

CARAS offers a range of individual and group support to improve the holistic wellbeing of people who have a forced displacement background. For adults this currently includes: ESOL, digital skills and employability sessions; social and recreational activities and casework. All programs are interlinked and work hand-in-hand with one another. For example, community members can practice their spoken English in Coffee Afternoon, and casework issues might be picked up and referred into the team during an ESOL class. We design and develop our programs through consultation and ongoing conversations with our community members. We aim to have a strong volunteer presence across all our programs, fostering connections between asylum seekers and other Londoners! 

About CARAS’s Adult Programming and Coffee Afternoon:

CARAS has been providing support to adult refugee women since 2005, promoting skills and confidence development that helps women gain more power in their lives. In the aftermath of COVID, we have been able to expand our adult programmes, responding to the shifting demographics of those seeking asylum in the UK. We now run a range of mixed programmes for all genders, as well as some women-only spaces. Our coffee afternoon is a mixed group. 

Our coffee afternoon has been running since May 2022 and is one of our most popular groups. It takes place at TARA Theatre in Earlsfield from 1-2.30PM every Friday. Its primary aim is to reduce isolation amongst those we work with by providing a safe, friendly and welcoming space for people to have fun, learn about themselves and each other, and build connections.

In 2023, we have been running creative sessions during Coffee Afternoon, facilitated by freelance creative practitioners in partnership with TARA Theatre. These range from dance to drama, poetry to puppetry. For sessions without a creative practitioner, we sometimes host workshops on important topics such as healthcare rights or have an open and informal space for games and a chat. There is always coffee and a selection of baked goods!

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

• To attend CARAS coffee afternoon’s, every Friday between 1-2.30PM in Earlsfield, South-west London. They take place at TARA Theatre, right opposite Earlsfield Station. Location here- https://maps.app.goo.gl/rXwJiKHRj93YFtLG9 (356 Garratt Ln, London SW18 4ES). 
• If there is a week this is not possible, to tell CARAS staff as far in advance as you are able. 
• To welcome and connect with community members attending, working to ensure everyone at the group feels included. 

• To take part if there is a creative activity happening in that session, and help liaise with CARAS staff and the creative practitioner to ensure the activity runs smoothly. 
• To encourage and inspire community members to feel confident and reach their full potential. 
• To share conversation, and chat informally with our community members.
• To assist community members to both recognise and celebrate their achievements. 
• To challenge negative attitudes and behaviour in an appropriate manor. 
• To adhere to CARAS Confidentiality policy, Health & Safety policy, Equal Opportunities policy and all other policies as relevant. 

Requirements:

• To have interest in working with refugees and asylum seekers. 
• To be non-judgemental, and able and willing to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and differing levels of English. 
• To be reliable and punctual. 
• To be a current resident in the UK. 
• To provide five years’ worth of addresses and be willing to undergo a UK DBS check.
• To attend CARAS General and Safeguarding Training, and any further training as necessary. 
• To be 18 years or older.

We are CFK, a project within the Collaborative Health Community (CHC) charity, and we're on a mission to improve children's health by inspiring children and their families to eat more real foods, the way nature intended! 

After a successful first pilot partnering with a school in Bognor Regis, we're due to continue our collaboration with the Regis School from September 2024 and are looking for more volunteers to join our fabulous onsite team!

What does the role involve?

• Delivering innovative and engaging 'Collaboration for Kids' (CFK) workshops to 13-15 year olds, designed to inspire them to eat more real foods to improve their wellbeing, health and mental health.
• Working within a small, friendly team to deliver our pilot intervention through a series of weekly face to face nutrition and lifestyle-based workshops starting at the beginning of the school Spring Term (September 2024)
• Building relationships with the school and the students and supporting in the collection of baseline and post intervention data, providing feedback and learnings to assist in continuous improvement and innovation.

Skills and Experience 

• Have a genuine and visible passion for nutrition and changing the eating behaviours of teens to help support improved health and wellbeing
• Have a qualification in nutrition / lifestyle or health coaching or something similar (desirable but not mandatory for all roles)
• Have experience and/or feel confident in delivering educational sessions / resources / programmes to Secondary School aged children (full training will be provided)
• The ability to build rapport, engage and inspire teenagers
• Be organised and structured in your approach and delivery style, ensuring CFK materials and key messages are consistently delivered
• Have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both visual and verbal) and fluency in English

Availability 

We are aiming to deliver a series workshops during the school spring term (on a weekly basis), therefore, are looking for someone who will be able to support this. If you can't do every week but can do most, we'd still love to hear from you. The workshops will be 45 mins - 1 hour long and we will provide full training.

Our aim is to help the people we support to navigate all aspects of their life; providing care and access to training, employment and leisure opportunities, together with respite for families in need of a much-valued break.
