Our aims
Popham Kidney Support (PKS) provides children, youths and adults with kidney disease and their families in Wales with a better quality of life by improving their emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing and improve their knowledge through education.
Role summary
Our Charity Champions are passionate individuals who are committed to supporting PKS. You will work alongside the PKS Team to support the charity, raising money in your area, identify new fundraising opportunities and raise awareness of PKS and their Services.
Role description
Charity Champions represent PKS in their local area. There are various ways to do this, and the role is flexible, so you are free to pick and choose which activities appeal to you. Here are some examples of activities Charity Champions do:
- Attending cheque presentation events as a representative of PKS
- Attending community events as a representative of PKS
- Attending organised walking, running, and cycling events to cheer on people taking part for PKS.
- Organising your own fundraising activities e.g. bucket collections, cake sales or raffles
- Supporting PKS fundraising and/or awareness events e.g. bucket collections, festivals ro regional shows etc
- Providing information in your local area about the support PKS provides e.g. putting information leaflets in local GP surgeries, supermarkets or posters on community notice boards
- Holding awareness stands at community events.
- Taking part in or encouraging others to get involved in fundraising events throughout the year
- Supporting social media campaigns by sharing content with your network
- Delivering talks about the work of the charity and the importance of fundraising
- Promoting PKS within your own network and encouraging more people to fundraise for us
Person specification
- We welcome applicants with different skills and experience – however it is essential that you are passionate about PKS and supporting the work that we do to help patients and families face kidney disease. Below are some of the attributes we look for in Popham Community Champions:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- An ability to recognise and follow up on opportunities in your community and through your own networks
- Flexibility
- Organisational skills
- Positive outlook
- Willing to complete paperwork such as expenses forms and keeping track of what activity you have done
- Ability to travel around your local area (within reason). A clean driver’s licence is advantageous but not essential.
- Good presentation and public speaking skills
- Friendly and approachable
- All Charity Champions must abide by PKS values and agree to our policies and procedures
Time commitment
Time can be as little or as much as you can give. We ask that all Popham Charity Champions complete an induction (either face to face or virtually) and be happy to attend regular meetups with other volunteers in their region if they are available. Once the induction is complete you will receive volunteer clothing, ID badge and pack and we will inform you of all our volunteering opportunities. If you have more time and would like to organise events, collections or find out what is going on in your area, we will provide you with the tools to support you in your efforts.

Our challenge
The Community Fundraising Team is an integral part of The Charity Fundraising Portfolio and the team consists of Community Fundraisers based across the UK. Our role is to provide fundraising advice & support to our Supporter Groups, Community Organisations, Regional Corporates, Volunteers & Events.
How can you help?
We are recruiting a team of Charity Ambassadors to help develop engagement across each Region, to maximise opportunities to raise funds and increase support from the Community. You will be actively involved with The Charity on the ground and play a key role working alongside the Regional Community Fundraisers, as and when required:
· Identifying various opportunities in your local area to raise awareness of The Charity & our wide range of Fundraising Campaigns. This could anything from contacting your local supermarket’s ‘Community Champion’ and organising an information stand and bucket collection or supporting a Supporter Group meet up in your area.
· Representing The Charity in your area, by undertaking presentations & cheque collections at schools, local companies & community groups
· Helping us to recruit new fundraisers and supporting those who are already signed up for a campaign, in your area. For example, attending a local Twilight Walk or promoting The Big Bake to local companies.
What impact will you have?
By amplifying The Charity's voice in your local area, you'll help increase the impact of fundraising campaigns & help grow funds and support us in accelerating a cure for everyone affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

Time commitment
Initially, we envisage a minimum of 2 or 3 days per month, depending on the regional focus, and this will also be guided by whether you are researching new awareness raising opportunities in your area, or setting up a school presentation for example. Flexibility if a key part of the role as we are often presented with exciting opportunities to raise awareness or funds, at short notice.
Practical considerations
You will receive training from the Community Fundraising Team and ongoing direction from a Regional Community Fundraiser, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity.

To take an active role in the charity activities. Responsible for governance, safeguarding and strategic direction of the charity with other board members. To work in partnership and to support contractors and volunteers helping them to achieve the aims of the organisation.
- Ensure the charity is run in accordance with the governing document, charity law, company law and that the decisions of the board and any other appropriate legislation or regulations are upheld.
- Ensure the charity pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
- Work within SDAC’s Safeguarding Children and Adults policies at all times.
- Assisting with the development of strategic plans and ensuring the charity operates efficiently.
- Assisting in setting organisational aims and objectives and setting priorities.
- Supporting other trustees in their roles.
- Assisting with reports and being responsible for own secretarial work.
- Attending and actively participating in monthly Zoom board meetings on a Tuesday from 6.30 to 8.30pm and yearly AGM.
- Seek out new opportunities to work with vulnerable residents in Surrey to promote the success of SDAC Ltd.
· Take delegated roles/tasks for the Board as discussed and agreed with the
Chair and report back to the Board.
· Ensure the charity’s confidentiality and safeguarding policies are adhered to with regards to the management of the charity.
· Attending in person meetings with volunteers in Guildford.

We are looking for an ambassador and spokesperson for the organisation! We would like someone that is interested in leading the Board in providing strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
Additionally, the roles involves:
- Ensuring that Action Hampshire complies with charity and company law and its own Articles,
- Chairing and facilitating board meetings, ensuring good decision-making and follow up, and a culture of collective responsibility and decentralised leadership
- Fostering respectful relations within the Board and across the organisation that reflect Action Hampshire’s values and ensure clarity on the respective roles of staff and trustees
- Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making
- Enabling the development of the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning
- Developing and maintaining good relations with key stakeholders as appropriate.
With the Chief Executive:
- Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required, including Annual General Meetings
- Enabling all sub committees and any ad hoc working groups to report their work and any recommendations to the Board
- Agreeing agendas for board and general meetings
- Building a strong relationship with the Senior Leadership Team
- Enabling Trustees to engage regularly with staff and contribute appropriately in supporting their work
- Ensuring, through regular contact, the support and appraisal of the performance of the Chief Executive, including their professional development
- Membership of appointment and disciplinary panels
