Bright Futures UK works with young people who have been forced to take time out from education due to chronic illness. We provide programmes to help stimulate learning in addition to having a social aspect that offers respite to isolation these young people face due to their unfortunate circumstances.

We are urgently looking for warm and energetic volunteer tutors of all subjects to provide educational support and a fun, safe space for these young people. Tutoring experience is not essential as full training is given. Our sessions also are all currently online.

We need someone who is able to engage with young people in a positive and friendly way, helping them overcome their experiences and not feel defined by their illness. You would engage with a young person on a one-to-one basis to help catch up on their studies, increase their confidence in their own skills, and have some fun with them in order to help them progress. 

The young people we work with have missed so many experiences in school which we take for granted. The time you can offer to help fill in those missed periods is invaluable to their development. Your sessions will be fully supported by Bright Futures UK staff – from questions or queries, resources or materials or just to bounce an idea off the team, we’re here to help.

Winterbourne Medieval Barn is looking to recruit a Trustee with specific responsibility for overseeing the activities of the Events and Publicity Committee.

Immersed in over 600 years of history and heritage, Winterbourne Medieval Barn is based in a conservation area north of Bristol.

Major building works were completed in 2020 with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and many other generous funders and donors to revitalise the whole Barn complex into a community heritage site promoting the knowledge of medieval history, its architecture, agricultural landscape and people.

As a multi-purpose venue, we host a range of activities for the local community including family activities, music and theatre performances, craft workshops, a monthly lecture series, and our flagship annual community events the Medieval Fayre and Orchard Harvest Day.

The private hire of the Barn and its facilities are available all year round and managed separately to the Trust events by the Venue Manager. The Barn and seminar rooms can be hired for weddings, celebration events, film shoots, and meetings.

Day to  day managenent of events is carried out by two part time staff covering events and volunteer management.

Specific Role

To Chair meetings of the Trust’s Events and Publicity Committee and ensure effective decisions are made and responsibilities for actions are carried out.

Specifically supporting the Community Events and Volunteer Coordinators in the planning and budgeting of Trust run events and related publicity.

To present a Trust events report to the Trustees at each ordinary quarterly Trustee Board Meeting.

To present a Trust events financial report to the Finance Committee at each quarterly meeting.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary

• To act as principal communications trustee managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of the branch.
• To act as the main contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the  branch committee and the branch membership.
• Order and distribute RSPCA stationary, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material.
• Arrange branch meetings, usually 11 per year, there is no meeting in December, meetings generally last about 2 hours and are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. ⅔ of meetings are held virtually.
•  Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.
• Arrange the branch AGM Including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all  branch correspondence where necessary.
• Liaise with the Branch Support Specialist and group chief inspector and notify them of all  branch meetings.
• Monitor the secretary's email address, issue the newsletters, issue any one off appeals.

Some times of the year are much busier than others. For example April when the Annual  Report needs to be done, May when all the calling notices for the AGM need to be sent out and in June when everything needs to be prepared ready for the AGM.

Applicants will need to be able to prioritise/organise a workload, being tactful but clear, have basic computer skills, understanding confidentiality and working independently whilst keeping everyone informed and accept the ethos of the RSPCA. Training is available.

• Ensuring that the Charity is governed in line with its Constitution and meets all legal duties applicable to it as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). 
• Ensuring that the operation of the Board is in line with its constitution. 
• Ensuring the Charity’s beneficiaries are the focus of all decisions and that public benefit can be demonstrated in the Charity’s activities. 
• Forming a successful partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a relationship which has a fundamental importance for and impact on Board effectiveness and performance. 
• Supporting the CEO as a ‘sounding board’ and confidential advisor in the management of the Charity’s resources and staff.

What are we looking for?

We wish to recruit someone, with good leadership skills and the ability to work with people impacted by trauma. As the CEO’s sounding board and confidential advisor in the management of the Charity’s resources and staff, we are looking for a progressive, creative and innovative influencer, with a high degree of emotional intelligence. 

As well as someone to undertake the responsibilities above, we are looking for: 

• A total commitment to VOICES’ purpose and vision, and to its transformative recovery and survivor led work, making a difference to Domestic Abuse survivors’ experiences to ensure they are safe and effective. 
• The highest personal standards with regard to integrity, compassion, honesty, reliability, and commitment to the role. Someone who leads by example, with the courage and resilience and empathy to work with and lead our Board. They will bring these attributes in a way which reflects VOICES’ unique vision and culture.
