We’re extending Ealing Book Festival'sBoard of Trustees to fulfil our long-term ambitions. We have a friendly, experienced team and financial strengths. Activities take place in central Ealing. Transport links are good.

Ealing Book Festival registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in November 2023. Its objects are to advance the public education in West London’s Ealing through an annual book festival and writing-related events for the enjoyment of books. We encourage reading for pleasure, working widely and inclusively. We are volunteer led.

Our April 2024 the charity ran its successful first main event, with 86% tickets sold and very positive feedback on the quality and range of the events. The festival comprised 19 events including a great children’s poetry competition. We’re planning for April 2025.

Skills we’re seeking

We’re strengthening our outreach capacity, diversity and enterprise. We’d especially welcome people with skills and experience in

1.Enterprise: fundraising and income generation

2.Working with Ealing (or equivalent) based networks and communities

3.Knowledge and experience of arts and culture

Trustees work collectively, using skills, knowledge and experience to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions.We offer induction and training.

The time commitment will vary but could be around 2-3 hours per week, flexed according to what you can offer.

Trustee vacancy 1 Regional Network member
We are pleased to offer an opportunity for a member of the BTO Regional Network to contribute to the work of BTO’s Board and to Chair our Regional Network Committee. This opportunity is open to all Regional Representatives, Regional Ambassadors, Regional Organisers, Local Organisers. The committee meets four times a year, once face-to-face and three times via video call. In this important role, as well as undertaking the responsibilities of a Trustee, as Chair of a BTO committee, you will ensure the Regional Network is represented at both committee and Board level, working collaboratively and supportively with BTO staff and the wider network to ensure the network is effective and enabled.

Trustee vacancy 2 Safeguarding and Inclusion 
We are seeking someone to bring their knowledge and experience in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and safeguarding to BTO and our Board of Trustees and to Chair our Governance, Safeguarding and Inclusion committee which meets 4 times a year. BTO is undertaking significant work in the area of EDI, and safeguarding is a critical part of the way we work. Alongside the responsibilities of a trustee, this is an important role that requires working closely and collaboratively with staff, the committee and BTO Board to apply your knowledge and experience within a BTO context. We are looking for applicants with a range of experience across both or either area of EDI and Safeguarding, with a willingness to demonstrate a commitment to both.

The role of a Trustee
Board members have overall legal responsibility for BTO, ensuring financial, regulatory and monitoring performance. BTO provides induction and training opportunities to all Trustees to support them in fulfilling their role. Trustees have the opportunity to contribute to discussions, identify key issues and provide insight, ideas and encouragement on various topics, all of which help BTO to achieve its vision and mission.

Time Commitment
Being a trustee is a commitment and we aim to be upfront about what it involves. We provide a calendar of meetings and engagements to all trustees at the start of the year. As an overview, annual meetings and engagements include 5 Board meetings, 1 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and sub committee meetings if you are interested in serving on a subcommittee. There will also be an induction period which takes approximately 10 hours in total but some parts are done independently at times that suit you (like the reading and eLearning).

Expenses
This is a voluntary, unpaid position. Travel and accommodation associated with attending meetings can either be arranged in advance by BTO (so there is no expenditure on the part of the Trustee), or expenses can be reimbursed afterwards.

Help us deliver our Vision of a Midlands Region where no one goes hungry and where children don’t go to school on an empty stomach

Last year, our food helped over 500 frontline charities and community groups across the Midlands to provide 13 million meals.

FareShare Midlands (FSM) is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We take good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry and get it to our Members - frontline charities and community groups all over the Midlands. We turn an environmental problem into a social solution.

Last year we redistributed almost 5,794 tonnes of food from our warehouses in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham. It is sorted and stored by our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers, and then redistributed to around 800 Members including food pantries and cafes, homeless shelters and drop-in centres.

These local organisations turn the food into food parcels, affordable shopping and delicious meals for people of all ages. As well as food, our Members provide vital support to families and the elderly, many of whom are facing challenging circumstances and living in poverty.

Last year our food reached more than 83,000 vulnerable people every week, providing 13 million meals. At the same time, we are growing our Employability Programmes to help people gain work experience, skills and jobs.

Our Purpose at FareShare Midlands is to Fight Hunger, Tackle Food Waste and to Create Opportunities.

The Role

Our Trustees set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values and are responsible for setting organisational strategy, policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan and evaluating performance.

We are looking for you to bring your life experience, insight, expertise and skills together with the enthusiasm and commitment to helping to reduce food insecurity and unnecessary food waste. Homefield College, founded in 1987, is a registered charity and a community-based independent specialist college that offers education, training, independent living skills, care and support to young people between the ages of 16-25 with learning and communication difficulties. Set in the East Midlands, Homefield College has 3 campuses across Leicester and one in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

The College provides specialist education to 180 learners, all of which have an education health and care plan (EHCP).  All of our learners have a learning disability and/or difficulty, and we have a particular focus on the Autistic Spectrum and those with communication difficulties. About the role.

At Homefield College, the Trustees of the Board are there to lead on the strategy, ensure the Charity is well-run and prioritise student outcomes, well-being and safety across all decision making. BUBIC (Bringing Unity Back Into the Community) continues to grow and evolve, we are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

Role overview: As a Trustee, you will be jointly responsible with other Board members for directing BUBIC’s affairs. You will ensure that the organisation is solvent, well-run, and delivering the outcomes for which it has been set up. You will safeguard and promote the values and mission of BUBIC, determine its strategy and structure, and ensure that it operates effectively, responsibly, and accountably. Additionally, you will ensure the effective functioning of BUBIC’s Board of Trustees and act in line with the Seven Principles of Public Life (available on gov uk)

Key responsibilities:

• Attend at least monthly Board and other meetings.
• Participate in one or more Board sub-groups.
• Scrutinise Board papers and other communications.
• Lead and contribute to discussions, providing guidance based on your specific skills, knowledge, and expertise.
• Abide by BUBIC’s policies and procedures.
• Act as a signatory where required.
• Promote BUBIC to our beneficiaries, funders, and the wider public.

Treasurer-specific responsibilities: For our Treasurer, we are looking for someone who:

• Has a strong working knowledge of financial management of companies, and if this is not specifically charity finance, is willing to learn more.
• Can explain financial information to others who have less financial expertise.
• Is willing to convene our finance sub-group.

You have a strong personal commitment to the BUBIC’s aims and objectives. You will bring specific skills, knowledge and expertise to the role including one or more of the following:

• experienced Finance Director ideally a qualified accountant
• lived experience (people who are in recovery from, and family members affected by, problem alcohol or drug use)
• HR
• fundraising
• health and social care
• social enterprise
• social researcher
• communications
• legal/contract law

We’re recruiting a Treasurer to provide strategic leadership over our continued financial growth to support our ambitious new strategy to be launched in 2025.

We’re seeking a Treasurer to join our board of trustees and work with our CEO to ensure the financial stability and growth of Camcycle. You will be a committed and enthusiastic supporter of cycling in and around Cambridge and a member of Camcycle. This does not mean you need to cycle very far, very often or indeed at all, but rather that you understand the benefits large-scale everyday cycling can have for our society and environment. (If you are not currently a member you can join in advance of submitting your trustee nomination form).

Ideally, you will have a formal accountancy qualification and/or practical experience with charity finances. You will also understand the dynamics of a small high-performance organisation, and be able to work with a variety of stakeholders including staff, other trustees, volunteers, members, donors and other partners. Our Treasurer will not be expected to get involved in day-to-day financial operations.

Who we are and what we do

Camcycle (Cambridge Cycling Campaign) is a high-profile and influential local charity working for more, better and safer cycling, for all ages and abilities, in and around the Cambridge region, where half the population cycles at least once a week. We are democratic and member-led, with over 1,700 members and many volunteers.

Our funding is derived from membership subscriptions, donations, grants from grant-making bodies, corporate partnerships, advertising and merchandise sales. We have five permanent members of staff, periodic interns and freelancers and many active volunteers including our board of trustees. In 2025/2026 we expect to complete our transition to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

Our Finance Subcommittee of trustees and staff oversees the financial processes and operations of the organisation. Our CEO and Finance Assistant run our day-to-day finances and we have plans to add a Finance Director or similar role to the team in the near future.

Camcycle’s work includes:

• Responding to planning applications and public consultations.
• Organising events including our Cambridge Festival of Cycling, the Reach Ride with 1,000 participants, stalls at community events, workplace information sessions and campaigning meetings.
• Publication of print and digital cycling advocacy materials including leaflets for students, our quarterly magazine and blogs and social media posts.
• Making representations to the media and public bodies such as the council in the interest of a wide diversity of people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities who are cycling for general transport purposes in the greater Cambridge region.
