The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Programme & Safeguarding Committee which provides a space to interrogate our impact and programme design approach, champion our culture of continuous improvement, and review our safeguarding policies and practices. It reports to the charity’s board, providing advice and recommendations on The King’s Trust International programmes and strategy.

The successful candidate will provide guidance and insight on challenges and opportunities facing the charity. They will be responsible for helping us to ensure that quality and excellence are paramount in the delivery of our global projects and programmes. We are looking for someone who can commit to approximately 4-5 hours every 3 months. This would include attendance at meetings (2 hours), virtual or in-person in London, as well as provision of your own time to review any reading or meeting notes in preparation for the meetings.

You will have in-depth expertise in the principles of evaluation, and best-practice impact measurement approaches and knowledge of a range of quantitative and qualitative analysis methods as well as experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) in either youth development or international development.

Excellent interpersonal skills and being a strong and effective communicator are essential, coupled with the ability to be solutions-focused and open to innovation.

This is a voluntary and therefore attract no financial renumeration; however, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed, as outlined in our volunteer policy (which will be shared as part of the selection process).

In addition, there will be opportunities to engage with members of KTI’s staff and trustees, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and develop your specialist advisory skills and networks. As a technical expert, you will be expected to share learning from your own experience and would be considered part of the King’s Trust network, with the opportunity to influence critical decisions for the organisation.

Role Summary

The Executive Assistant (EA) to the Trustees at Roots Academy plays a pivotal role in supporting the Board of Trustees in their governance responsibilities and strategic oversight of the charity. This position requires a seasoned volunteer, capable of seamlessly managing administrative tasks while contributing strategically to organizational initiatives.
 

Key tasks

• Trustee Support and Governance: Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Board of Trustees, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and coordinating materials. Ensure timely distribution of board packs and follow-up on action items.

• Strategic Liaison: Serve as a strategic liaison between the Trustees, senior management, and external stakeholders. Facilitate communication, manage relationships, and ensure alignment of activities with the charity’s mission and strategic objectives.

• Project Management: Oversee special projects and initiatives as directed by the Trustees. This includes conducting research, preparing reports, and driving forward key strategic priorities identified by the Leadership Team.

• Policy and Compliance: Support the Trustees in maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Keep abreast of governance best practices and assist in policy development and review.

• Executive Support: Provide high-level administrative support to the Chair of the Trustees, including managing correspondence, arranging travel, and organizing events as required.

You will promote the safety and welfare of young people involved in Roots Academy’s activities at all times.

Key tasks

• Take a lead role in developing, reviewing and implementing Roots Academy’s safeguarding policies and procedures: ensuring all safeguarding issues concerning students and volunteers who take part in Roots Academy’s activities are responded to appropriately.

• Develop and deliver safeguarding training.
• Make sure students and young people who are involved in activities at Roots Academy know who they can talk to if they have a welfare concern and understand what action the organisation will take in response.
• Receive and record information from anyone who has concerns about a student or volunteer who takes part in Roots Academy’s activities.
• Take the lead on responding to information that may constitute a safeguarding concern, including a concern that an adult involved with Roots Academy may present a risk to children or young people. This includes:

a. assessing and clarifying the information

b. making referrals to statutory organisations as appropriate

c. consulting with and informing the relevant members of the organisation’s management

d. following the organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures.

• Liaise with, pass on information to and receive information from statutory agencies such as the police. This includes making formal referrals to agencies when necessary.
• Store and retain safeguarding records according to legal requirements and the organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
• Work closely with the board of trustees the People Team Lead to ensure they are kept up to date with safeguarding issues and are fully informed of any concerns about organisational safeguarding practice.
• Report regularly to the board of trustees on issues relating to safeguarding, to ensure that safeguarding is seen as an ongoing priority issue and that safeguarding requirements are being followed at all levels of the organisation.

CPRE Leicestershire is looking for a Treasurer/Trustee.  As Treasurer you’ll ensure our financial affairs are conducted within legal requirements and good practice. You’ll work closely with the chair and trustees to oversee the financial sustainability and development of our charity.

Introduction

CRRC is a registered charity with the primary object of supporting refugees and displaced persons in Cambridge and Cambridgeshire. The charity is lead by the Board of Trustees of which the Treasurer is an ex-officio member. (S)he is subject to the decisions of the Board.

The role

The Treasurer will hold the CRRC’s Trustees to account for the Charity’s finances and vision, maintain financial control and ensure we comply with our legal responsibilities as a Registered Charity. The Treasurer will work with all members of the team to ensure that there is a transparent and clear financial process. As Treasurer to the Charity, you will also become a Trustee. Trustees are expected to understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship and understand their role as a Trustee.

The role is mainly online with occasional in person meetings in Cambridge. The expected hours will vary between 2 to 6 hours per week with a flexible working arrangement. The position is unpaid. Expenses incurred in undertaking the role will be reimbursed.

A competent treasurer or part-qualified bookkeeper or accountant would be ideal. Experience in the charity field is desirable but not essential.

Our bank is the Co-operative Bank. There is no branch in Cambridge, so all transactions are electronic or by post.

The duties of the Treasurer

1. Budgets The Treasurer co-ordinates the production of an annual budget, in conjunction with Group leaders. Details are kept on excel spreadsheets.
2. Financial Reports will be presented to the Board every quarter, setting out the income, expenditure and balance against budget at the end of each quarter. In addition to providing the Board with an overview of the financial position of CRRC, these reports should help the Board to understand trends and pressures and help the Board to understand how CRRC is using funds to support its objective.
3. Financial records These are now only kept electronically, using excel spreadsheets. The existing spreadsheets have been set up by the present Treasurer, but could be modified if improvements are considered advantageous.
4. Receipts are from various sources, as standing orders, bank transfers, cheques and through Kindlink, Paypal, CAF and payroll deductions. Cash is rarely used.
5. Gift Aid The treasurer is responsible for making claims for Gift Aid and for keeping Gift Aid forms.
6. Payments All payments must have signed off by a Trustee responsible for the budget heading. The vast majority are by bank transfer. Claims for payment are made on an electronic form to the Treasurer, who then sets up a bank transfer which is forwarded to the signatories for approval. This gives final authorisation for the bank transfer to take place. The Treasurer must check that the form is correctly filled in and the payment requested is in line with relevant e-mails and overall CRRC policy. A bank card is used for a limited number of specific payments. The number of payments varies each month. In 2022-23 there were 270 payments across the year.
7. Restricted and designated funds In addition to the main CRRC fund, there are currently 3 restricted/designated funds. These funds use the same bank account, but its transactions are recorded separately.
8. Annual accounts The Treasurer is responsible for producing annual accounts after the end of the financial year, which runs from 1 July to 30 June. These are then presented in draft to the Board before being submitted to an Independent Examiner. The Treasurer then passes the approved annual account summary to the relevant Trustee for submission to the Charity Commission (Annual report and financial accounts 2022.)
9. Financial policy and Procedures This document gives in more detail the above information.
10. Supporting volunteers The Treasurer is also responsible for informing volunteers about the process for payments, including through relevant updates to process documents, and may be required from time to time to contribute to updated guidance for volunteers.

Additional notes

The current treasurer will be training the new treasurer and will remain available to support the new treasurer. The main reason for the stepping back of the current treasurer is to make time for the current treasurer to drive and oversee important changes and adaptations to facilitate the financial management of CRRC and to be more closely involved in the overall governance of our charity.

CRRC intends to adopt a digital payments system in 2024-25, in order to streamline the payment process for CRRC’s volunteers, budget approvers, bank signatories, and for the Treasurer. CRRC is also exploring changing the bank account.

It is possible that the number of restricted/designated bank accounts may be reduced.

Treasurer

We are looking for a Treasurer to lead this charity’s board’s oversight of charitable funds, you will be pivotal in ensuring the organisation demonstrates excellent stewardship of resources and is financially sustainable for the future.

About the Role

We are looking to appoint a Treasurer for this exciting organisation. This is a particularly exciting time to join us, as we put in place a new three-year strategy to bring greater clarity and focus to developing the organisation’s role.

We are looking for a Treasurer who will be a charity trustee (company director) and ensure that the public interest and charitable objectives run through all that we do. Your background in financial leadership will be an ideal experience to chair the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee (FRAC) and provide support to our finance team.

Key responsibilities include:

· Meet with the Chief Executive and relevant staff to prepare for FRAC and board meetings and discuss other financial matters.

· Seek assurances that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs.

· Advise on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans.

· Keep the board of trustees informed about its financial duties and responsibilities, including the organisation’s free reserves position and target.

· Oversee the preparation of budgets, management accounts and financial statements, and ensure processes are in place to ensure that the statutory accounts are disclosed in the form required by the Charity Commission and Companies House.

· Ensure that the accounts are externally audited and any recommendations from the auditors are implemented; as financial spokesperson, make a formal presentation of the accounts and audit report to the board of trustees and members, drawing their attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way; liaise with the auditors on specific issues such as the management letter and related board representations.

· In liaison with the communications team act as financial spokesperson and draft external briefings for the organisation.

· Ensure that processes are in place to ensure appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place, including an appropriate reserves policy.

· In relation to investments, ensure there are processes in place to check that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity, and monitor the organisation’s investment activity ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities.

About You

You will need to have the following skills and experience:

· An understanding of the wider talking therapies environment, regulatory frameworks, and professional associations.

· An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

· A commitment to the organisation and its charitable objectives.

· Financial qualification (ACA / CIMA) or equivalent.

· Strategic and analytical financial experience.

· Board-level experience in the Public, Private or Third Sector.

Outreach Support Liaison 

Helping our Trustees and Outreach Workers with the production of our events and publicity materials.  This may include liaising with partner organisations providing services and events for older people and printers producing our brochures, programmes and leaflets. It can also include preparing and distributing individual tea packs when we do a tea at home event aimed at the housebound.

Event Companion

Our research has shown that for many isolated older people having a companion can make it easier to take the first steps to join local events and organisations.  Our companions help older people by accompanying them to a few events and helping them meet with other people so that their confidence is developed. This role requires a DBS certificate.

Transport

Our research has shown that getting to events is difficult in our rural area.  Buses services, when available, often do not run to timetables that allow easy attendance at events.   So, our Transport Volunteers provide a pickup and return service.  Transport Volunteers need to have a suitable vehicle and also hold a DBS certificate.

 ​

Exhibition Support

​Silver Salisbury Group often attends events to promote our work.  We always need volunteers to help run the stand.  This involves helping set up and take down of the stand,  dealing with the public, selling jams and other items to raise funds. Venues are various and can be indoors or outdoors.  Volunteers work as part of a team on the day.

 ​

Baking

Silver Salisbury Group hosts many tea parties as part of its programme and is always looking for volunteers able to provide cakes and savouries for such events.  These are not sold but we particularly welcome contributions from bakers who are able to list ingredients so we can avoid any danger to those with food allergies or dietary requirements.

Social Media​

We are increasingly relying on social media to advertise our offerings to our target audiences.  We are very keen to find volunteers who are interested in editing and managing our on-line presence.  If you are a person undertaking education or training in social media we can offer you a project as part of your course.

Brochure Distributors

We need to deliver our printed programmes, newsletters and leaflets.  We would love to hear from individuals or groups who might be able to help with this occasional distribution task.

Action for Stammering Children (ASC) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and suitably qualified person to join our Trustee Board as Treasurer to replace our current Treasurer who has sadly come to the end of his term. 

Who are Action for Stammering Children?

Action for Stammering Children is the UK charity for children and young people who stammer, their families, and the communities who support them. We are a small charity, founded in 1989, but one that punches above its weight and with Dr Ria Bernard, who joined us as Chief Executive in 2022, we have big ambitions! 

We’re here to make sure that every child who stammers has the support, respect and confidence to live the life they want to lead. 

We support and empower parents, caregivers and professionals; facilitate and champion research; and campaign for changes in policy and societal attitudes 

What do we do?

Information, community and support

We provide resources, advice and guidance for children and young people who stammer, their families, and the professionals who support them. 

Changing policies and attitudes 

We make sure the voices of children and young people who stammer are heard. We work with politicians and other decision makers to ensure the unique needs of children who stammer are reflected in public policy. But we know we can’t stop there. That’s why we campaign to challenge prejudices and misconceptions, seeking to change how society treats stammering and promote acceptance. 

Championing research 

We support and promote research into childhood stammering in order to build understanding and feed into our advocacy work, informing positive changes in policy and practice. 

Our team

ASC currently has a staff team of three (one of whom is part-time) but we hope shortly to recruit a part-time book-keeper and an events co-ordinator, in order to be able to deliver on our ambitious strategic objectives. 

Our Board of Trustees has been chaired by Dame Jane Roberts since 2021. With a number of trustees having come to the end of their term, we have had a number of trustees join the board recently including a new Company Secretary and two new trustees who had previously been members of ASC’s Youth Panel. With the Chair, the Company Secretary has been reviewing our governance to ensure that we conduct ourselves in line with best practice in charity governance. The Youth Panel is made up of young people who themselves stammer and who inform our strategic direction as well as engage in projects of their own. Our Annual Report for 2022-23 is available on the Charity Commission website, in addition to Trustees’ Reports for previous years. 

Executive and Non-Executive, we are a professional but friendly bunch who would extend a warm welcome to a new Treasurer as well as ensure that there was a generous handover period with the current Treasurer.

Who are we looking for as Treasurer?

We would like to attract a qualified accountant, perhaps still working, perhaps recently retired. You might have a personal connection to stammering but this is not required. Your interest, enthusiasm and experience are the most important.

Purpose

Main responsibilities:

Our Board is made up of Trustees and Co-opted Trustees who bring together their skills and experience to provide stewardship to Gingerbread and its staff. 

The role of Treasurer is to maintain an overview of Gingerbread’s affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

Trustees generally meet for full Board meetings a minimum of five times a year. Please see request a copy of the candidate pack for further details.

What are we looking for?

The Treasurer should have the following qualities: 

· Financial qualifications and experience. 

· Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes. 

· The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences. 

· Being prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the board. 

· A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.

Responsibilities: 

• Oversee developing and implementing HR policies in line with organisational objectives.

• Support, develop and guide the HR team in achieving monthly targets and deliverables.

• Provide end-to-end leadership and support with all people-related activities within the organisation, such as recruitment, retention, well-being, and engagement.

• Serve as a link between management and staff by handling questions, escalating enquiries, and resolving work-related queries.

• Manage a team of HR Managers and Officers

• Produce reports and surveys for C-Level Executives and Trustees.

This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

You will have:

• At least six months experience in an HR managerial position or over 3 years of experience in an HR role.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Though we do not require you to be a native English speaker, you must be Fluent in English.

• Ability to work within organisational targets.

• IT Literacy, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office. 

• An understanding of HR-related processes and legislation (such as The Equality Act 2010)

• A CIPD qualification would be advantageous but is not essential depending on relevant experience.

Chair of the Strategy and Policy Group of the Joint Public Issues Team

Could you bring your chairing skills and ecumenical experience to help facilitate the church’s social justice, policy and political work?

The Joint Public Issues Team is a partnership between the Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Churches. It helps the Churches to work together for peace and justice through listening, learning, praying, speaking and acting on public policy issues.

We are now searching for a Chair of the Strategy and Policy Group which oversees the team’s work, and facilitates the working together of the denominations to achieve JPIT’s purposes.

The SPG currently holds three in-person meetings a year, comprising two half-day meetings and one 24-hour residential with the whole staff team, and two hour-long online meetings a year. As well as preparing for and chairing these meetings, the Chair is expected to participate in e-mail correspondence and electronic decision-making between meetings, and work collaboratively with the JPIT Team Leader in a supportive capacity between meetings (expected time commitment 1-2 hours/month in addition to meetings)

It is a 3 year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a further 3 years

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary

• To act as principal communications trustee managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of the branch.
• To act as the main contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the  branch committee and the branch membership.
• Order and distribute RSPCA stationary, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material.
• Arrange branch meetings, usually 11 per year, there is no meeting in December, meetings generally last about 2 hours and are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. ⅔ of meetings are held virtually.
•  Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.
• Arrange the branch AGM Including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all  branch correspondence where necessary.
• Liaise with the Branch Support Specialist and group chief inspector and notify them of all  branch meetings.
• Monitor the secretary's email address, issue the newsletters, issue any one off appeals.

Training is available.

Some times of the year are much busier than others. For example April when the Annual  Report needs to be done, May when all the calling notices for the AGM need to be sent out and in June when everything needs to be prepared ready for the AGM.

Experience/skills/knowledge/personal qualities required

Applicants will need to be able to prioritise/organise a workload, being tactful but clear, have basic computer skills, understanding confidentiality and working independently whilst keeping everyone informed and accept the ethos of the RSPCA. Training is available.

Working from home with occasional visits to team meetings in Macclesfield, Congleton and Buxton areas.
