Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help sort, value and display our vinyl and media donations in our shops to help turn them into cash.
What will I be doing?
Sorting through our media (CD/DVDs/Vinyl) donations and pricing them ready for sale
Researching interesting vinyl online on sites such as Discogs, eBay and Amazon to value them for sale in the shop
Displaying the media on the shop floor ensuring stock is rotated regularly to increase sales
Enlisting help from local auction houses when needed
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.
What skills do I need?
It’d be great if you have some knowledge of or interest in vinyl/media and know what to look out for when valuing.
A really keen eye for detail and ability to cross reference items across a number of websites to provide the most realistic valuation
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
Ability to use computer for research
You may need to handle bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with the Shop Manager when expressing your interest in volunteering.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form
What support will I be given?
Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you do try a small number of hours in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you. The amount of hours can be decided between you and the Shop Manager.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to run you through the basics of helping in a shop in your first few days and they’ll always be on hand after that.
Becoming a volunteer with Tenovus Cancer Care can be a rewarding experience and is certainly invaluable to the charity and its goals.
What benefits can I expect?
Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in line with organisational policy
The satisfaction of knowing you’re making a vital difference to the work of Tenovus Cancer Care, and in particular the people who access our unique services
The opportunity to be creative and bring new ideas to the shop
The opportunity to develop new and existing skills
Access to all internal vacancies
Access to training
The enjoyment of meeting new people and being part of our Retail Team

Location: Cumbria, County wide
Learn new skills in the mountains of the Lake District whilst monitoring restored peatland sites.
The role will include collecting data from an upland peatbog site that has undergone restoration, within the Lake District National Park.
No previous experience is necessary, though a willingness to spend time in the mountains where weather conditions can change very quickly is essential. Some experience being in and navigating through mountainous environments is beneficial.
You’ll be keeping track of how well peatlands are recovering after restoration, and feeding this data back to Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Therefore, your work will be vital in ensuring that the good work undertaken during restoration continues to benefit wildlife that rely on this habitat. You’ll receive full training for this role, with the opportunity to attend several training sessions over the next 6 months.
Initially, you’ll need to attend a minimum of two training sessions whilst we set up the project. These are 1 day per session. Once you’ve been trained and feel comfortable with the work, you’ll be able to go out and monitor a site which is designated to you. This would require just 1 day of monitoring per year, though you’d be welcome to complete more monitoring through the year should you wish to.
This project has been funded by the Farming in Protected Landscapes team (FiPL) which is part of the Lake District National Park Authority.
This volunteer opportunity is with our partner organisation Ozawa Wildlife
Ozawa Wildlife is one of Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s partner organisations on the Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) peatland restoration work. This project looks to monitor the development of six areas that have been restored within the last five years, to monitor it, and to flag up any areas of particular interest or concern which can then be followed up by trained members of staff.

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity and our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs.
Cats are at the centre of everything we do and our objectives are: homing, neutering and educating people about cats and their care.
We help thousands of cats across the UK each year thanks to our network of dedicated volunteers, employees and supporters.
A bit about this role
As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best – whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!
What can you expect to be doing?
This is really flexible role – you can choose what you’d like to get involved with:
- Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins
- Online fundraising – setting up online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised
- Marketing – spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press
- Completing administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
- Championing our work – getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
What are the benefits to you and the cats?
You will develop new skills, expand your knowledge and make a significant contribution to improving the lives of cats and kittens by helping raise vital funds through fundraising activities. You will also meet new people, make new friends and be part of a dedicated group of volunteers. Whether you’d rather be out and about, or volunteering from your own home, there are so many ways to fundraise.
We’re looking for someone with
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to be part of a team
- Good organisational skills
- Flexible approach
- Knowledge of local community networks (would be an advantage)
Time expectation
This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments. You’ll be part of a team all working together to raise vital funds while having fun in the process!
Support, guidance and keeping you safe
At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.
The wellbeing of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we come into contact with as part of our activities.
Making a better life for cats, because life is better with cats

We believe that no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, should be isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our experts offer support that’s tailored to the individual needs of each person, whether that’s at our centres, through our holidays and short breaks, or in people’s own homes. In addition to practical support, we also provide information to families, and campaign for the rights of people with complex disabilities to take part in life.
Volunteers add real value to Sense, bringing their passion, enthusiasm and fresh perspectives to the work that we do. We believe that volunteers enable us to bring people together, and provide opportunities for people with complex disabilities to communicate and experience the world.
We include. We collaborate. We find a way. We challenge. We celebrate.
