About you:
As this is a volunteer role, we're primarly looking for someone who is motivated, creative and reliable, over having loads of experience, but it would be great for you to have:
- A keen interest in second-hand fashion.

- Experience creating and editing short form video content using editing apps like CapCut or Premier Rush, or a willingness to learn.

Marie Curie is creating a Hospital Companion service in Plymouth to support people at end of life in both Mount Gould and Derriford Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to influence and shape the Hospital Companion Service and to improve the experience of patients within hospital in Plymouth.
Hospital Companions offer companionship, emotional support, and a reassuring presence to people at end of life and the people closest to them. Focusing on what matters the most to the person, Hospital Companions draw upon their volunteer training, community knowledge and networks to provide bespoke person-centered support.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
The support a Hospital Companion provides is unique to each person and their individual circumstances, but is likely to include:
- providing companionship and emotional support to people at end of life and the people closest to them
- providing practical information, support, and signposting to other local services such as bereavement support and advanced care plan
- promoting the Hospital Companion service within the Hospital setting and the local community
- completing and returning a short report at the end of each hospital visit
- attending and participating in regular volunteer wellbeing sessions, team meetings, and refresher training

Do you have the passion and commitment to support women experiencing Domestic Abuse to reach a place of safety? We are recruiting volunteers to support our Refuge Referral Line team, which supports women and children experiencing domestic abuse to find a safe, secure, and suitable refuge space across London.
You will join a team of trained staff and volunteers to support women to make a referral, and ensure they have the knowledge and are informed of the best options to reach safety. You will be supporting women and children to rebuild their lives free from fear!
What you will be doing
- Taking calls to assess the risks and needs of the women fleeing from domestic abuse whilst under supervision/guidance of the Referral Line Worker and the Service Manager
- To use a range of skills and tools to make phone conversations with women effective and empowering
- To provide women with knowledge of how to access refuge space and other types of support with the aid of a trained staff team
- General admin support: typing, taking notes, filing, scanning documents, keeping accurate records on our digitalised client management syste
- To develop positive relationships with staff members and women whilst promoting self-care
- Engage, support, and interact with women from a diverse range of needs and backgrounds
The skills you need
- A desire to provide support to women who are in crisis due to domestic abuse
- Always maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Calm, patient approach with empathy and a willingness to listen without judgement
- To have a willingness to learn about supporting women impacted by domestic abuse with a diverse range of needs/ backgrounds
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Good time-management
- Experience of using email, internet, and other digital IT skills

This role presents an opportunity to liaise with businesses and organisations in your local community to find and arrange suitable reading venues for your group. Reading venues are typically in local libraries, churches and other businesses and organisations that can provide places where there is at least one other person in the building, whilst also providing an element of confidentiality, they are never classroom settings.
What you will be doing
● Ensuring there are sufficient suitable venues for reading pairs, in line with the Venue and Lone Worker Policy.
● Managing the relationship between the venues and the group and source new venues as the group grows.
● Finding organisations and businesses willing to offer a room or suitable space on their premises for your reading pairs to use at certain times of the week when it is not in use.
● Ensuring that the premises are suitable for Read Easy by using the Venue Checklist.
● Reporting on the venues arranged to the Management Team to gain their approval.

● Keeping an up-to-date record of venues and regularly review venue arrangements.
● Supporting the Team in finding and booking other venues for Read Easy events.
● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every six to eight weeks.
The skills you will need
● Experience of networking or the confidence to contact local organisations to explain how each venue can support local people to improve their reading.
● Ability to develop strong working relationships with local venue providers.
● Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
● Reasonable confidence in using IT.
● The ability to use initiative and work independently.
● A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures.
● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the Team.
● A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included.
● Energy and enthusiasm with an average of one hour a week to commit to the role.
