VOLUNTEER TREASURER
We are the only charity in Kingston uniquely dedicated to assist those who provide unpaid care for someone experiencing Mental Health difficulties. Founded 20 years ago, we assist individual Carers (ie Family, Friends) with advice, guidance and peer support. As well as 1:1 support, we also have a monthly group where members can meet others to share lived-experience, and a weekly newsletter.
We also act as the collective voice to represent the views and concerns of these Carers. We are recognised in this campaigning role by statutory services in the Royal Borough of Kingston and SW London who engage us as active members of relevant committees and strategy groups, and we also partner with other third-sector organisations.
We are keen to further develop our service and we invite a volunteer with financial experience to help us achieve this. Whilst KMHCF is fully funded for its present activities, we will look to the Treasurer to guide us towards funding opportunities for future expansion, and to take the lead on the application processes.
Our financial activity is very low at the moment, but you would need to maintain financial control and ensure we comply with our legal responsibilities as a Registered Charity.
You should ideally have experience of serving in a small charity, or have appropriate transferrable skills.
It would be good if you have some awareness of Mental Health yourself, but this is not essential. Most of all, you should have the enthusiasm to serve Carers who can often feel isolated and bewildered.
The Treasurer would be part of our Management Committee which meets about every two months on a mid-week evening. Otherwise, the role is home-based. However, we welcome offers from our Committee to attend other meetings to represent the Forum or to take responsibility for leading projects, as they feel able.
The role is expected to lead to a Trustee position.

Parkinson's UK local groups offer friendship, support, and numerous activities for people affected by Parkinson's.
In Winchester, the group is a core part of the local Parkinson's community. As a committee volunteer you'll help connect people to the group, whilst making sure existing members stay up to date with the activities provided. You could have a hand in arranging activities too, whether it's seated yoga, or a chance for friends and family of those living with Parkinson's to meet - and all activities are open to you too.
You'll build existing connections, and meet new people in your local area, all whilst making a difference to those living with Parkinson's in Winchester.
The group meets each month, but many of our volunteers undertake parts of their roles from home - at a time that suits them. This is a flexible role, and you could be doing any or all of the tasks on the role description - speak to your staff contact for more detail.

About the opportunity
This role involves providing talks to a variety of groups, schools and organisations within your local area, raising awareness of the charity and promoting our fundraising activities.
There is no minimum commitment. Times can vary, and you can choose which talks you attend. Talks mainly take place during the week, with some evenings and weekends. The length of each talk will vary depending on the group’s requirements.
Talk requests are handled by our fundraising team, however you can secure your own talks if you wish.

Sick, injured and homeless pets have relied on Blue Cross for help since 1897. Each year, thousands of dogs, cats, small pets and horses turn to the charity’s animal hospitals, clinics and rehoming services for treatment and support.
Our Volunteer Pet Welfare Speakers provide an informative and influential service by talking to children in primary schools and youth groups about responsible pet ownership and dog safety which enables us to improve the lives of thousands of pets. This role is for speakers who will visit and deliver talks to young people in primary schools and youth groups in their local area. We would love you to join us and help us help more pets in need
What you will be doing
- Having an informal interview with the team prior to selection
- Training online via e-learning to become a Pet Welfare Speaker
- Contacting primary schools using details we have given you to arrange all the details for your talks

- Delivering interactive presentations and fun talks to groups of children at primary schools during the day, and some youth groups such as Brownies and Cubs during the evening.

The skills you need
- To be a confident public speaker; happy to deliver PowerPoint presentations and talk to sometimes large numbers of children and young people in schools and youth groups

- To be computer literate as you will need to complete your training online, deliver our pre-designed presentations and use Assemble, our online volunteering system to keep in touch
- To enjoy teaching and working with young people and have a keen interest in pet care and dog safety

Online training can take several weeks so you will need to commit to training before you can fully get stuck into your role. You will need to have term-time daytime and ideally some evening availability. You must have access to your own car or reliable public transport. Talks are delivered in person within a 20 mile radius of your home. Expenses are available. As this role involves liaising with children and young people, you will need to be prepared to undertake a DBS check. If this sounds like you, you’re the person we’re looking for to support our Erdington Sight Loss Support group meeting. The group began in 2019 and we resumed meeting face to face in May 2022.
We would like your help with:

What skills and experience are needed?
- You’ll ideally have 1. Lived experience in playing, spectating, or delivering sport or physical activity sessions as a blind or partially sighted person. 2. Lived experience of issues affecting blind and partially sighted people in relation to sports and physical activity. 3. Be comfortable speaking to different audiences to share your sporting story, or a willingness to try with our support. 4. Have effective communication skills. 5. An outgoing friendly approach to meeting new people

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers.
