Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Dundee group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills. 

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 5 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

Shannon Trust fulfils an unmet need around adult learning, supporting people who’ve fallen through the cracks in formal education.

We know a lot of people have had negative learning experiences in the past, so our programme is designed to be different, with no exams and no classrooms. Our unique, evidence-based Turning Pages reading manuals and Count Me In numeracy manuals are used by thousands of learners in prisons and the community to improve reading skills. 

Prison volunteers live near to their local prison so that they can visit about once a month during the working week to nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by offering advice, guidance, training and support to prison staff and prisoner mentors who help other prisoners to improve their skills 1 to 1.

We are looking for volunteers who are able to give a regular, reliable commitment for ideally two years and able to deliver engaging training to groups of people in prisons.  Volunteers do not need to be teachers or qualified traininers, full training will be given.  Due to the nature of the role, prison security vetting will be required.

We provide training for the role via e-learning and 4 training sessions which are a mix of live, online and group training

We are looking to recruit a Fundraising Volunteer for the Leamington Spa, Warwick and Kenilworth Group. As our Fundraising Volunteer you’ll support your Group Coordinator to organise local fundraising activities and events throughout the year.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills.Most importantly you’ll inspire your local community to raise funds that help make sure no one has to face MS alone.

·We are looking for volunteers (over 21 years) who would like to make a difference to the lives of our most vulnerable children and young people. Being a mentor for a child or young person (8+ years old). you will help and support them to achieve their goals and to realise their true potential. ·

Meeting with your young person on a regular basis in the community for a couple of hours to help them develop their confidence, self-esteem and resilience. You will help them to achieve goals which they have set for themselves.

Activities can include but is not limited to, going for a walk, a milkshake, arts and crafts, baking and many more. Acting as a positive role model for your young person. To keep and submit brief notes about your contact/visits with your young person. 

• You will receive a thorough induction programme and training to prepare you. • You will receive quarterly supervisions and ongoing support from a member of the team. • You will make a real difference to a young person’s life. • You will have opportunities to meet with other volunteers and young people. 

A bit about this role

Across the UK, many cats are cared for by volunteer fosterers who provide a stable, safe and loving environment in their homes or in purpose-built pens in their gardens. They provide vital hands-on care and accommodation to stray or abandoned cats or cats whose owners could sadly no longer keep them, and are part of a dedicated team of volunteers committed to finding new homes for cats in need. Our fosterers carry out this role with support from their local branch or centre.

Most of our fosterers care for one or two cats at a time and enjoy providing lots of TLC to those cats, who have been pre-loved or have had a difficult start in life. Some of our fosterers look after new mums and kittens and provide round-the-clock care to newborns to give them the best start in life.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Meeting the needs of the cats and kittens in your care
• Cleaning and looking after the cats’ environment and equipment
• Feeding, grooming and administering medication
• Spending time enriching the cats’ experience in care including; play, exercise and stroking
• Maintaining high standards of animal welfare

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend one and a half hours per day on average (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care. In order to help you feel confident in your fosterer role we ask that prior to looking after your first foster cat you complete some online cat welfare learning modules.

Unfortunately thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a TNR volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

What can you expect to be doing? 

• Trapping cats using humane methods
• Taking cats to local vets to be neutered 
• Returning cats to their territory or finding a suitable alternative

The role might also include:

• Regular feeding of feral colonies
• Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, land owners and local businesses
• Liaising with vets to promote and arrange neutering

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Supporting and encouraging a team of fundraising volunteers
• Planning fundraising events and activities with your team
• Allocating tasks before and during fundraising events
• Keeping financial records from fundraising events
• Encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection

Can you spare a few hours a week to support members of the Colostomy UK Facebook Support group?

We are looking for volunteers who can help respond to queries from group members on our closed Facebook group during the evenings (Mon – Fri, 5 - 9pm) and at weekends (Sat & Sun, 9am - 9pm).

Members of the support group are generally very positive, encouraging and kind to each other. Generally, members want to help each other, and the group has a real sense of community. The group is for anyone with a stoma or who has genuine interest in supporting someone with a stoma. 

What will you do?

You will be logged in and respond to posts as Colostomy UK. We ask that you look at the group approximately once an hour during your shift and respond to posts as and when required. This may involve giving advice (never medical advice) or signposting back to our website.

You don’t need to respond immediately if you are unsure, however we do ask that you have a basic understanding of the group guidelines and alert the office team to any concerns. We ask that you delete any posts without delay that are obviously against the rules (we’ll tell you what those are during the training).

We have a weekly rota, and you can sign up for the time slots that work best for you. Shifts can be scheduled for the same day and time each week, or vary, as suits you.

How will we support you?

You will complete two hours of comprehensive training before getting started, so you are fully aware of what you need to do and when.

We’ll buddy you with an established volunteer who can support you in the initial few weeks.

You will be part of our WhatsApp group which includes other volunteers and the office team, so if you are ever unsure on how to help someone, others can help. Members of the WhatsApp group are happy to be contacted out of hours so very available if needed. 

What qualities and skills will you need?

• Great if you are an ostomate but you don’t have to be.
• Good writing skills and able to respond to messages in a timely manner via your device or PC.
• Correspond in a supportive and person specific manner with members of the group.
• Empathy with and enthusiasm for helping people.
• Good understanding of our charity and the support we offer.

KatexPower provide plug and play solar home systems to electrify households and solve basic household energy needs

 

• They are looking for a Fundraising Strategist VOLUNTEER to build on their existing fundraising pipeline database, reach out to potential donors, craft compelling proposals and pitch decks, and cultivate relationships with stakeholders to achieve their fundraising goals.

Maker Keti Enterprises help women and kids get empowered by the awareness of their own abilities. In Nepal, as with most parts of the world, girls are not encouraged to use tools. This leads to people, especially women, to not realise their full potential and to not break stereotypes and preconceived notions of their own abilities.

Maker Keti Enterprises conduct DIY workshops with women and kids where they use simple, hand tools, gaining more confidence within themselves and appreciation of their abilities. Starting from this year, we are launching a free online platform called Sipalu Sister featuring videos educating on various life skills from tool use to first aid. These videos are presented simply and in easy to understand Nepali. They hope to reach thousands of Nepalis, especially women living in rural areas, for whom this kind of information is not yet available.

For their latest project, Sipalu Sister, the goal is to reach out to rural Nepalis (especially women) to help them learn critical life skills so that they can be independent and confident in their decision making. It is an online platform, so marketing it on social media will be key. As the literacy rate among rural Nepalis is low, the marketing strategy needs to work even for those who cannot read.

• They are looking for a VOLUNTEER Fundraising Advisor

• Their knowledge based online platform will launch in September, shortly after which their current funding will also cease. Fundraising and boot strapping will be essential for the continuity of their project. We need help to form a viable fundraising strategy.
