Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.

How would you be supported in this role?

When you begin your role, you will receive a mix of e-learning and in-person training to get you started. Throughout the role, you will receive refresher training as required as well as ongoing support, reimbursement for role-related expenses and the opportunity to further shape the volunteering you do.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely for The Royal Marsden, a world 
leading cancer centre. We ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the 
very best care and develop life-saving treatments which are used here in the UK and around 
the world. 
We are looking for some volunteers to support our flagship fundraising event, The Banham 
Marsden March. Over 6,000 participants will be taking part in a walk starting at Dovehouse 
Green, near The Royal Marsden in Chelsea, and finishing at The Royal Marsden in Sutton. 
It can only happen due to the amazing support of our volunteers, and you could be one of 
them.

Volunteer role information 
Date: Sunday 11 May 2025
Time: Various roles available between 8am & 6pm
Location: TBC; stationed along the 15 mile route of The Banham Marsden March

Role overview (dependent on location and role):
• Welcoming and supporting walkers at the start lines
• Marshalling along the route to help keep walkers safe and cheer them on
• Welcoming and encouraging walkers at our three checkpoints
• Helping provide information and handing out refreshments
• Handing out medals at the finish

Support provided: 
• Full event briefing, including detailed information about the day and your role 
• Charity liaison in the run up to the event and on the day

We are seeking two or three volunteers to join our Board of Trustees.

If you’re passionate about supporting children and young people in Cumbria and have skills or experience in any of the following areas, we’d especially love to hear from you:

• Business Development

• Finance

• General Fundraising

• Law

• Networking & Corporate Fundraising

As a trustee, you’ll have the opportunity to:

• Receive induction and training to support you in your role.

• Make strategic decisions and contribute to the charity’s direction.

• Develop new skills and network with other professionals.

• Help improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people in Cumbria.
