Long Covid SOS (LCSOS) is a charity set up for the advancement of health and relief of need among people with Long Covid.

‘Long Covid’ means post-acute Covid-19 syndrome, where symptoms and/or long-term complications occur beyond four weeks from initial infection or symptom onset to include any post viral illness with a suspected or evidenced link to Covid-19.

LCSOS aims to raise awareness of Long Covid, its treatment, recovery and rehabilitation among health policymakers, healthcare providers and the general public.

To do this we advocate for and make it known to healthcare providers, health policymakers and other relevant policy makers the views and linked experience of members of the general public suffering from or affected by Long Covid. We also support research into the causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Long Covid, and publish results of such research.

Main duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer:

• Advising the Board about its financial duties and responsibilities
• Advising the Board on the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements
• Advising on the financial implications of LCSOS strategic plans and key assumptions in the annual budget
• Ensuring that all Board members have a clear understanding of the accounts presented at meetings and their implications
• Understanding the accounting procedures and key internal controls to be able to assure the board that the charity’s financial integrity is sound
• ensuring that a realistic budget is produced which meets the needs of LCSOS and that there is an appropriate reserves policy
• Approving, and where appropriate, advising the Board on unbudgeted expenditure proposals in accordance with LCSOS financial procedures
• Ensuring that full financial records are kept for all transactions
• Ensuring that proper financial procedures and controls are in place to safeguard LCSOS
• Ensuring that money received is only spent on the purposes for which it was given, and, where required, ensuring that reports and accounts demonstrating this are submitted to funders
• Ensuring that accounts are prepared at year-end in compliance with the Charities SORP (FRS102) and making arrangements for them to be audited or independently examined, as required by the Charity Commission
• Ensuring that annual accounts are submitted to the Charity Commission and/or Registrar of Companies, within the deadlines set
• Liaising with the Chair about financial matters
• Advising the Board on identifying and managing key risks effectively, and maintaining LCSOS's risk register
• Leading on selecting and implementing a suitable financial accounting system

Personal skills and qualities:

• Commitment to the aim and goals of LCSOS
• Professional financial or accountancy qualifications or equivalent senior financial or accounting experience
• Experience or knowledge of charity finance
• Experience and knowledge of budgets and budgeting processes
• Ability to analyse proposals and anticipate their financial consequences
• Preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the Board
• Willingness to be available to provide advice and guidance on financial matters

Other Information:

• The Treasurer is a full member of the Trustee Board
• Formal Trustee Board meetings are held online up to six times per year (or as required); Team meetings are held monthly and Trustees are invited to attend
• The Treasurer role requires approximately 2 - 4 hours work per month
• Trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years and can be reappointed
• This is an unpaid position and out of pocket expenses are reimbursed to Trustees

Brigstowe is looking for two Admin Volunteers to support our Office Manager for one day each, preferably on Mondays and Fridays.

The role will include:

• Admin for our peer support group – calling members of the group, recording attendance and client feedback

• General office admin (including front-of-house reception duties) 

• Answering/making phone calls and transferring calls to colleagues

You will be working in the office alongside our committed and supportive staff team. You will be supervised and supported by Brigstowe’s full-time Office Manager. Full induction will be provided as well as ongoing training opportunities. In return, we require a minimum commitment of six months. 
The role would suit someone with some admin experience who is comfortable with IT.

Brigstowe is a Bristol-based HIV support charity. We support people living with HIV and other long-term health conditions in Bristol and the surrounding areas and have been doing so for over 30 years. 

Hours: One day or 2 half-days a week (preference for Mondays and Fridays)

Independent Visitor Role Description
Purpose: To appoint a volunteer to visit, advise, and befriend a young person in the care of the Local Authority, providing contact with someone independent of their professional network.

Accountable to: Independent Visitors/Mentors and Peer Mentoring Coordinator

Main Tasks

• Visit a young person monthly and build a positive relationship as an adult friend.
• Encourage participation in activities for social, emotional, and educational development.
• Provide timely written reports on visits.
• Maintain contact with responsible adults for the young person.
• Ensure the young person’s views are heard.
• Ensure the young person knows their rights and is encouraged to participate in decisions.

Fundraiser

Responsibilities *Identify and approach potential donors, sponsors, and grant opportunities. *Develop fundraising campaigns to support programs like leadership training and entrepreneurship workshops. *Maintain relationships with existing donors through regular updates and reports. *Collaborate on fundraising events and campaigns.

Skills Needed *Strong networking and relationship-building skills. *Experience with fundraising strategies and donor engagement. *Proficiency in writing grant proposals and fundraising pitches is a plus.

We are seeking a Treasurer to help us steward our resources wisely and enable us to grow our community of Christian storytellers on the frontline of influence.

About the Youth Team role

​Youth Team Volunteers work with young people from a wide breadth of backgrounds, ensuring they really feel part of the St John family. Volunteers will help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be. 

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

Getting started

You will usually be able to start volunteering very quickly, joining your new youth unit, meeting the young people and your colleagues and beginning to learn on the job. However please be aware you will have some online training to do, and you will need to engage with classroom training opportunities when available. There is also optional training for those who wish to pursue higher youth team qualifications.

About the role.

As our current Chair of the Governing Body completes their term, we seek a successor to lead Ambitious College during a pivotal time. The new Chair will guide our strategic direction, ensuring the Governing Body contributes effectively to our mission and meets all educational responsibilities in line with Ambitious about Autism’s strategy. The Chair also plays a role on the organisation’s board-level Education and Care Committee, influencing decisions that ultimately shape the future of the College. While financial and property management falls outside the Governing Body’s remit, the Chair will be instrumental in overseeing the performance of the College in terms of quality, compliance with education and other requirements and stakeholder engagement.

You will work closely with governors, Ambitious about Autism’s Education and Care Committee, the Head of College, and the Executive Head, providing leadership during a significant period of growth, development, change and opportunity.

We are looking for an experienced leader committed to supporting autistic young people. Our new Chair will have experience on a Governing Body or Trustee Board. This voluntary role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of autistic young people, and we are looking for someone who is inclusive and who engages effectively and sensitively.

The landscape of SEND funding presents unique challenges. Local authorities continue to experience increasing financial pressures, which impacts SEND provision. A Chair with an understanding of the wider SEND sector is therefore essential. This could be from a leadership, governance or policy role in SEND.

Time commitment

The Governing Body meets once a term, plus an annual strategy meeting.

As Chair of Ambitious College’s Governing Body, you will be a member of Ambitious about Autism’s Education and Care Committee, which meets termly, usually online for 2-3 hours. Each term, we have twilight governor training for 1-2 hours.

As Chair, we encourage you to visit the campuses and attend occasional events. We expect the time commitment to be the equivalent of one day a month. This includes preparing for meetings and ad hoc conversations with governors, the Head of the College, the Clerk to the Governing Body and the Executive Head.

About our Health and Wellbeing Project 

Our Health and Wellbeing Project aims to improve the health equity for the Latin American community in South London, overcoming challenges such as cultural and language barriers,  digital literacy, lack of information, etc. and addressing structural inequalities and discrimination.

Through outreach work, one-to-one consultations, webinars and workshops, we support people to access basic services such as GP registration, dental care, medical appointments and mental health support. 

Working in collaboration with other organisations, we promote awareness and share information around health needs that are particularly relevant to the Latin American community, as well as other chronic health conditions identified as prevalent in Lambeth and Southwark.

We also run informative campaigns using our social media channels to produce, translate and disseminate relevant information materials and resources in Spanish and Portuguese.

Taking a wider understanding of health and wellbeing, we consider an essential part of this work to address the multiple and complex needs of our community. Therefore, we support people to access advice and support on housing, employment, welfare and immigration, among others, provided by IRMO and other organisations.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

• Providing community members with up-to-date, accurate information about health and wellbeing related topics relevant to the community

• Delivering weekly one-to-one support sessions and follow-up on enquiries from service users

• Make phone calls to service providers and partner organisations

• Supporting the development or translation of informative resources in Spanish and Portuguese, such as handouts and how-to guides (depending on the volunteer language skills)

• Participate and organise events and outreach activities and sessions

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a genuine vocation towards supporting the Latin American migrants and refugees.

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

• Academic background in health . Students in the last years of their studies will be also considered (D)

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish (E) 

• Good verbal and written communication skills in English (intermediate level)

• Ability to interact with service users from all backgrounds in a friendly, approachable and supportive way

• Ability to work with service users in a way that promotes their rights and dignity, while being aware of relevant boundaries

• Ability to set own work priorities and take initiative 

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

• Good IT skills, including competence in Google Workspace applications, and Microsoft applications, 

• Understanding of issues facing the Latin American community in the UK

• Basic DBS check (completed through IRMO)

• Safeguarding Level 1 certificate (completed through IRMO)
