Could you inspire children from across Hestia’s domestic abuse refuges to get active? We are recruiting for a qualified Sport’s coach to support us over the summer holidays! During the school summer holidays, Hestia runs a six-week Summer Play Scheme providing activities and outings for mothers and their children across our refuges. Funded through generous donations from the public, the Summer Play Scheme provides women and children with a safe and supportive space to reconnect by having fun and sharing happy memories together as family.

What you will be doing

• To develop positive relationships with the children and women, maintain professional boundaries and keep accurate records.
• Keep a record of attendees, provide feedback and report any concerns to the staff team
• Coordinate a weekly timetable of sports and active games to engage children
• General knowledge about wellbeing and how sport affects physical and mental health
• Support the children to maintain their physical health through exercise
• Support the children to learn/play and work as a team
• Plan activities or sports in collaboration with the children

• Understanding of Domestic abuse and its impact on children and women
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with people from different backgrounds

Company Three work long-term with local young people, training them as theatre-makers and providing a safe space in which to grow, explore and take risks. About the role

The Chair of the Board of Trustees is a crucial leadership position, providing strategic direction and governance oversight to Company Three. You will work in close partnership with our Co-CEOs, ensuring effective and inclusive leadership across the organisation. We are looking for someone with proven leadership experience, with a track record of chairing a board or committee, or holding a significant leadership role in a professional or community context. Replenishment and Merchandising Volunteer - Barnt Green 

The Role 

Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families. Our empowered Replenishment and Merchandising Volunteers support the team by replenishing stock on the shop floor and by merchandising it in an eye catching and engaging fashion.

How much time will it take? 

Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too), 9am to 5pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’ll need you to be available for at least 3 hours per week.

Visitor Centre Helper at South Walney

Interested in volunteering for half or a full day, at one of Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s most beautiful nature reserves? With stunning views across Morecambe Bay, this shingle island reserve is a landscape of rolling sand dunes and wetlands, surrounded by the wild Irish Sea. 

Do you love wildlife? Over 250 bird species have been recorded here, throughout the year. The reserve is also home to the only grey seal colony in Cumbria.

Are you a people person? Join a friendly team of volunteers at our visitor centre, meeting and greeting visitors to the reserve; providing information on the site’s wildlife; promoting the work of the Cumbria Wildlife Trust in general and South Walney nature reserve, in particular.

This is a unique opportunity to learn new skills through volunteering, working on South Walney nature reserve and learning how the reserve is managed. You don’t need to be a wading bird or grey seal expert, just have a natural enthusiasm for the all the wildlife that you and the visitors will see there.

Training, hot brews and, due to the reserve’s remote location, travel expenses, will all be provided.

We are looking for volunteer helpers who’d be able to come down once a week for a half or full day.

Our visitor centre is accessible for wheelchair users. Suitable for over 16s. 

As a Volunteer Helper, your role will include:

Greeting visitors on arrival in the visitor centre and assisting in the car park

Providing leaflets to visitors and advice to ensure they enjoy their visit

Spending time out and about on site, engaging with all our visitors and ensuring visitors are keeping to footpaths

Providing assistance and encouragement to visitors less experienced in bird and wildlife watching to discuss their sightings and share information

Where appropriate and safe, to deal with any misuse of the site by providing guidance to visitors

Assisting the tidying, and opening up/closing of the visitor centre.

What is Perioperative Care?

To both patients and the public, the phrase ‘perioperative care’ may be unfamiliar and yet, it should be a normal and fundamental part of the healthcare process within the NHS.

The word ‘peri’ means around. The word ‘operative’ means surgery. So ‘perioperative care’ refers to the care that a patient should get as they journey form the GP surgery (when they might be referred to hospital), right the way through to the moment they are back home recovering.

Our Client’s Vision

Their vision is to improve the health of people of all ages, at all stages of their surgical journey, by promoting the highest standards of perioperative care.

Improving perioperative care will make a difference to a lot of important things to patients. These include supporting patients to get fitter before surgery, better pain management (getting mobile quicker), recovery times (getting you out of hospital faster), reducing any anxiety felt and putting the patient at the centre of all decisions about treatment.

The Role

They are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to represent the patient voice on our client’s Board and lead the team of patient representatives.

They are committed to ensuring the patient’s voice is at the centre of everything the organisation does, therefore they are seeking a Patient Lead to strengthen and direct the patient voice and agenda.

This is an unpaid, voluntary role although reasonable expenses will be paid. Much of their work is done remotely but some travel may be required to meetings in London.

About You

They welcome people from all backgrounds and areas of the UK.

A Patient Lead will be someone who is familiar with the wider healthcare landscape and can demonstrate collaborative engagement with colleagues or stakeholders at board level. You should be keen to help advance the cause of perioperative care in the UK.

You are interested in and have the following skills:

• An interest in the NHS and delivery of high standards of healthcare
• An interest in understanding the practice of perioperative care
• The objectivity to consider health issues from an unbiased patient’s perspective
• The flexibility to arrive at shared judgments on a variety of issues and to support the majority decision
• The confidence to work with a wide range of clinical colleagues
• The ability to communicate your ideas to a wide range of stakeholders in a variety of ways e.g. meetings, presentations, events, articles and blogs

Experience of board work would be an advantage but is not essential to apply for this role. Having an interest in sharing your patient perspective on a range of challenging healthcare issues is most important.

Many meetings take place virtually to give flexibility around working commitments, therefore an ability to use standards windows software including Microsoft Teams, Word and email is essential alongside personal access to the internet. This will ensure you are able to undertake the requirements of the role and get involved in everything our client has to offer.

The Patient Lead will ideally be able to join online weekly meetings, attend quarterly Board meetings and Executive meetings, Chair the Patient and Public Engagement Network (PPEN) and ad hoc discrete projects as appropriate. They are looking for an individual with strong team working and communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.

Purpose of the Role

The volunteer will assist with gardening support in one of our Enfield services, which supports people with learning disabilities. One of our residents is a keen gardener who would love to spend a few hours with a volunteer planting and cultivating the communal garden. You will be providing a befriending service to the person, promoting fitness and contributing to a welcoming and sustainable area for all in the service to enjoy.    

 Responsibilities

• To assist the person you will be supporting with Gardening activities as he wishes for the duration of your time together incl. watering plants, planting plants/seeds, weeding, cutting and trimming of bushes
• Liaise effectively with the Support Team and Team Leader of the service for any needs that the person you will be supporting may have in regards to their Gardening Goals

Skills, Attitudes and Experience

• You are reliable and punctual 
• You are able to communicate with people with learning disabilities in an understanding way

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the branch coordinator/team leader, Cat Welfare team, branch development manager and Vet team to ensure that cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied

• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified systems
• Attending relevant volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat adoption team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with our policies and procedures

Time expectation:
The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our cat welfare team leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

The Community Support/Reach Out volunteer will be volunteering remotely, providing online support and guidance to visitors of The Forward Trust Website communicating in real time using web chat.

The Reach Out Service sits within our Recovery Support Department and is aimed at offering friendly and confidential listening support and assistance. The role involves utilising your communication skills to establish rapport with individuals seeking drug and alcohol help and or to talk about their mental health or other varied life challenges. You will be supporting people who are seeking help for drugs and alcohol help for themselves or from family members concerned for their loved one.
Training is provided to all volunteers to support them with their volunteering role and enable them to further their skills and experience with our client group.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Time Commitment: We recommend that volunteers can commit to an average of 3 hours online per week for a minimum period of six months.

Service Delivery

- Be available for the duration of the shift to answer web-chat/calls as they happen.
- Engage with individuals in a friendly and empathetic manner.
- Gain an understanding of the individual needs and sign post to appropriate organisations for further support or explore specialist services as required.
- Link individuals into Forward Trusts community drug and alcohol services when required and link individuals into drug and alcohol help in other geographical areas where Forward Trust does not have a service.
- Report any Safeguarding concerns to shift supervisor and follow safeguarding procedures as appropriate.
- Respond to offline messages at the beginning of each shift.
- Debrief with and ask for support and guidance from Reach Out Coordinator regarding any concerns arising from web chat conversations.
- Provide handover to supervisor and/or next volunteers covering the shift prior to logging off
- To book shifts in a timely fashion and inform the Reach Out Coordinator of any need to cancel a shift at the earliest opportunity.
- Engage with support and supervision offered by placement supervisor.

We are working in partnership with New Citizens’ Gateway, a charity that empowers refugees and asylum seekers to foster a sense of belonging, integrate into the UK and rebuild their lives. They provide support for refugees and asylum seekers across London and beyond through a holistic model and multifaceted approach, which acknowledges the whole person and all their physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. Their services including advice and guidance, campaigning, ESOL classes, community classes and groups, counselling, wellbeing services, youth activities and mentoring.

However, the Board is open to expressions of interest from candidates who do not possess skills in these areas, but that would like to be considered as a Board member. 

Board meetings are held four times a year (hybrid) in addition to attending occasional networking, fundraising and ceremonial events and meetings. All reasonable expenses will be covered by the charity. We anticipate a 1-2-hour monthly time commitment.

Volunteer with us!

At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, so most of the care that we provide is funded through fundraising and through our shops.

To help us to continue to provide the care that we do, we are looking for fun and enthusiastic volunteers to join us in our Kenilworth shop. Our shops are exciting and dynamic, with no two days being the same. From our walk-in customers, to receiving donations, and everything in between

As a Shop Volunteer with us, you will be:

• Engaging with customers
• Accepting and sorting donated stock
• Pricing donations for sale
• Working on the till

Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too) 9am to 5pm.  You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but it would be great if you could support in the shop for at least 3 hours a week.
