About Home-Start Barnet, Brent & Harrow
Home-Start helps families with young children through their challenging times. We support families in the boroughs of Barnet, Brent and Harrow who are facing issues such as loneliness, isolation, financial difficulties, anxiety, post-natal depression, ill health, multiple births or disabilities. We help them grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and forge links with the local community.
About the Role:
We are seeking a new Chair to join our Board. As our Chair, you will be passionate about our mission, and will have the drive and motivation to lead the Trustee Board to achieving our goals. We expect that you will have some experience of senior leadership and the ability to offer strategic support and direction to the charity.

- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Experience in the nonprofit sector in a paid or voluntary capacity

We are very committed to developing a diverse board that is representative of the local families we work with and understand the complex challenges many of them face. This might include lived experience of parenting challenges, migration, being from a minoritised racial community, life on a low income, being LGBTQ+, neurodivergent or having a disability. We also welcome applications from those with experience of our work, as a supporter, a family or volunteer.
Previous experience of being a trustee is welcome but not necessary – we can provide a thorough induction and support for those wishing to gain their first trustee role.

Our core Befriending Project supports people who are socially isolated in Ealing and Hounslow. They may have a physical or sensory disability, or they may have mild dementia, and are sometimes housebound.
This is an opportunity to become a Befriender.
On successful completion of the training, Befrienders are matched with someone who lives close to them.
They make a weekly 1-2 hour visit to the client's home, where they might stay in and chat over a cup of tea or, where possible, go out for a walk together, visit a cafe or undertake a local activity.
These visits make such a difference for the client, but volunteering with BEfriend not only enriches the lives of those who are isolated, it also offers immense personal rewards.
As a Befriender, you’ll get to know inspirational people with fascinating stories, develop new skills and be part of a supportive team that values compassion and connection.
This role is for UK residents only, and applicants are required to live in or very near the boroughs of Ealing or Hounslow.
After applying, volunteers will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid for and organised by BEfriend).

- Technology – someone who can support the hospital to harness data insight and use Digital, Data, Technology and AI to drive strategy to support the ambitions of the charity
- Human Resources – an experienced HR leader that brings experience of delivering people strategy and organisational development initiatives in complex environments
- Legal - someone who can bring knowledge and skills from practising law to the hospital, ensuring compliance, sound governance and adherence to charity law
The RHN is a diverse organisation, in its staff and its patients and residents, and is keen that its Board of Governors should reflect that diversity. While it is essential that the Board must contain members with significant Board experience, the RHN welcomes applicants with less direct Board experience who have the other skills which it is seeking and can make an important contribution to the Board as a whole.

Our Linked Minds Befriending Project supports people who are socially isolated in Ealing and Hounslow due to a diagnosed mental health problem.
This is an opportunity to become a Befriender.
On successful completion of specialist mental health training, the Befriender is matched with someone suitable, by a Co-ordinator who then acts as a (non-clinical) supervisor for the befriending period, which is limited to a year. (Where applicable, this can count towards continuous professional development).
Befriender, client and supervisor make a plan together with a goal to work towards, and the Befriender makes a weekly 1-2 hour visit to the client's home, where they might stay in and chat over a cup of tea, go out for a walk together, visit a cafe or undertake a local activity.
These visits make such a difference for the client, increasing their confidence and helping them explore and work towards getting a job, joining a club, meeting other people or whatever their goal may be.
The aim is that, by the end of the year, clients feel better about themselves, more valued, resilient, empowered, more linked to their community and better equipped for their journeys in recovery.
But volunteering with BEfriend not only enriches the lives of those who are isolated, it also offers immense personal rewards.

CAT FOSTERER
Cat Fosterer (Guildford & Epsom)
We’re looking for cat-loving volunteers to play a vital role in helping us improve the wellbeing of the cats in our care whilst they wait to be rehomed. Can you help them by providing a calm and caring home whilst we find their purrfect forever home?
Overview of the opportunity
As a cat fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our cats with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a cat’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.
Once everything is in place, the Guildford & Epsom Branch will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered cat. The RSPCA is also happy to reimburse any other pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.
Whilst our cats are in your foster care, you will:
- Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.
- Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.
- Transport them to any veterinary appointments if required.
- Provide them with your time and patience.
- Help us spread the word about the cats in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.
- Playing and cuddles are also a must!
What we are looking for in a volunteer Cat Fosterer
- Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for cats.
- Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.
- For their wellbeing, our cats need to be kept in a separate room, so the whole family should be on board.
- Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

Who we are.
The Tavistock Institute of Medical Psychology (TIMP), trading at Tavistock Relationships (TR), has been helping individuals, couples and families since 1948, and now provides around 20,000 therapy sessions to individuals and couples every year, online and in person. They are a world-class research, training and policy centre in therapeutic and psycho-educational approaches to supporting couples with significant partnerships across health and education.
They are looking to recruit a Chair of the Board of Trustees, a key role in the organisation. They need a committed leader who believes in Tavistock Relationships’ purpose of developing knowledge and new methods of supporting relationships. Someone who wants to lead TR as they continue to positively influence how interventions to improve couple relationships is delivered to individuals, parents, families and children by encouraging more organisations to recognise the impact and importance of relationships. A leader with the networks, skills, and motivation to support the charity and help it grow in response to the need for its services.
About the role.
The new Chair of Tavistock Relationships will have excellent leadership skills, good communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role and engage with the CEO and other senior management at TR. They will lead the Board and work with the Executive to set the vision, values, mission, strategy and high-level policy in accordance with charity regulations and the governing document of TR. They will also monitor the organisation’s performance against established targets and hold the Executive accountable.
As a charity, TR needs someone with a clear understanding of the Charity Commission’s guidance and recommendations. The new Chair needs board experience, ideally as Chair, and/or to have worked on committees and understand how to fundraise effectively. The Chair also needs to be someone who can operate strategically and navigate them through this period of change, holding fast to the vision and mission and inspiring the wider board and executive team to do the same. They need to understand and oversee, with the rest of the Board, the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of the role.
Tavistock Relationships have an open and inclusive culture, and the Chair needs to act with impartiality, fairness, and the ability to respect confidence. They need to model a willingness to speak their mind with tact and diplomacy and hear and consider the opinions of other Board Members and the wider team of staff. They need to be an ambassador for the organisation with partners, funders, staff and also clients. They will protect and enhance the reputation of TR at events and through the media as a spokesperson.
Who we are looking for
TR is looking for someone who can lead and support their ambitions to have:
- A stable and sustainable revenue, cost base, and diverse income, independent of government funding.
- A capacity to carry out successful fundraising to undertake research, develop new methods and influence government policy.
- A knowledge and practice network of 5,000 professionals in the field and front-line staff.
- Relationship network of at least 20,000 individuals who care about couple relationships and their work, who will advocate for activity and refer clients.
- A digital mind to improve and support services and training in a cost-effective and accessible way to a wide range of people.
- Increasing participation from diverse communities in psychotherapy practice and increasing diversity in our senior leadership and teaching roles.
- A reputation as a trusted delivery partner, able to influence government policy to ensure couple relationship support is widely accessible.
- Ensure the lower cost provision of services to workers and residents of the City and neighbouring boroughs and support research and development of new approaches and interventions for the City Wellbeing Centre.

Small Animals Fosterer (Guildford & Epsom)
Can you help us by providing a calm, safe, and caring environment for our small furries whilst we find them their fur-ever home?
Overview of the opportunity
Often when we think about animal fostering, cats, and dogs spring to mind, but have you ever thought about fostering our smaller animals? The RSPCA received more than 5,000 reports last year about rabbits and other small furries relating to neglect or abandonment and rescued an average of 340 small furries a month! To help us with the rehoming of these small animals, we are actively looking to add to our fantastic team of volunteer fosterers.
Whether you foster a rabbit, ferret, guinea pig or any of the small animals that come into our care, you will play a vital role in looking after the animals until their case is resolved or they find a new home. As a small animal’s fosterer, you would play an essential role in providing the animals in our care with a temporary home whilst they are being rehomed. Like us, even small furries have specific needs and requirements, but rest assured, once we have guided you through the fostering process the animal centre will ensure that you have all the necessary guidance, equipment, food, and veterinary care.
When our small furries are in your foster care you will:
- Provide them with care, safe suitable housing, and space for playtime, as outlined in our policies and guidelines.
- Ensure that they are groomed if appropriate and fed and watered.
- Provide them with suitable and clean bedding to keep them cosy.
- Give them lots of attention and plenty of cuddles as they are very sociable animals.
- The RSPCA is happy to reimburse you for any pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at FareShare. We are the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors. We take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry, and get it to nearly 8,000 frontline charities and community groups.
The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people.
About the Volunteer Role
Demand for our support continues to increase, and we need to source food in a variety of ways to meet this demand.
This is where volunteering at the Food Collection comes in, and why it is so important and impactful.
We are holding our annual Food Collection event in-store at Tesco.
We need volunteers to help in-store, to ask shoppers to purchase long-life food items to donate, and collect the donations.
We are urgently in need of long-life items such as tinned goods, cereal, pasta and rice - as they last a long time and offer good variety.
The food collected is given to the local food charity who supports people in the local community.
Shift times
Volunteer shifts are one-off on Thursday 28 November, Friday 29 November and Saturday 30 November 2024.
Shift times are 9am-midday, midday-3pm, 3pm-6pm and 6pm-9pm.
Key tasks
The goal during your shift is to make shoppers aware that you are collecting food donations for charity, and to ask them to donate for Christmas.
