Role Summary

Our Board of Trustees work to improve the lives of people with a learning disability, exercising good governance and following all necessary policies and procedures. 

The Chair of Trustees will:

• Provide leadership and direction to the board of Trustees and enable the Board to fulfill their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation. 
• Ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation/regulations. 
• Work in partnership with the chief executive, senior staff members and support the employees, helping them achieve the aims of the organisation; and to optimise the relationship between the Board of Trustees and the staff. 
• Facilitate the Board of Trustees in stimulating well-rounded and carefully considered strategic decision-making.

Time commitment

Trustee appointments will initially be for a term of 3 years which may be extended to a second term, or more. The Board of Trustees currently meets monthly in New Milton. We aim to meet for 2 hours, although recent increased activity has tended to extend the time to 3 hours. *The Board recognizes that it would be better to move to a bi-monthly or quarterly schedule, and would like to do so in future. Trustees receive Committee meeting papers a week before the meeting to enable them to prepare for the meeting.

About Gloucestershire Nightstop

Gloucestershire Nightstop is a leading youth-specific homelessness charity dedicated to preventing homelessness among young people aged 16-25 in Gloucestershire. For nearly 20 years, we have championed bespoke housing and support models to help young people avoid, resolve, and move on from homelessness, enabling them to safely transition to adulthood and build better futures.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for someone who finds numbers and their impact interesting! We are less concerned with formal qualifications (although very welcome) than someone who commits to doing the work necessary in a timely manner and an ability to work co-operatively with the Chair, Executive Director and all trustees. The board takes the overall responsibility so you will need to be able to help trustees and staff to understand the financial information and its actual or potential impact on the charity immediately and long term. We have an experienced bookkeeper and an appointed experienced external examiner.

Overall purpose:

• Oversee all financial aspects of the charity, on behalf of the board of trustees, to evaluate our financial position and associated risks. 
• Assist the Chair and the Executive Director in ensuring that the board of trustees fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper financial governance of the charity. 

What are we looking for?

Essential:

• Financial Awareness: Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, accounting practices relevant to corporate governance.
• Understanding of Regulations: Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, financial regulations governing charities and companies.
• Collaborative Approach: Financial oversight is a shared responsibility of the board, with the Treasurer working closely alongside fellow trustees as part of a team.
• Commitment & Time: Able to dedicate sufficient time to the role.
• Strategic Thinking: Ability to plan ahead and contribute to the charity’s long-term vision.
• Ability to digest, present & critically evaluate a range of information, including written reports, statistics and verbal communications.
• Willingness to challenge and engage.
• Understanding and commitment to diversity issues.

Desirable:

• Experience serving as a trustee or working within the charity sector.
• Formal financial qualifications.

• Managing and monitoring donations made to the group

Our current volunteer treasurers usually spend between 2 to 4 hours per week in this role. More hours may be required at certain times, such as towards the end of the financial year but support is always available.

We are looking for a volunteer who can lead on a project to create a modern digital archive, ensuring these records are identified, catalogued and stored securely in accordance with our records retention policy.

With over 50 years of history as a local hospice charity, we need help to organise our archives of important records. These include legal, property, and governance-related documents that must be maintained for the future.

By supporting this project, you will help us establish streamlined systems for record management, reducing the need for physical storage and allowing more funds to be directed towards patient care.

What you will be doing

• Create an overarching project plan which serves to identify and combine sources of physical and digital data across the organisation
• Triage files in accordance with our records retention policy
• Recommend solutions for organising and cataloguing records in digital format to allow easy identification and future disposal
• Identify potential resource required to digitise records and associated timescales

VOLUNTEER PUPPY SOCIALISER

Could you be the first step in a pup’s incredible journey?  As a volunteer puppy socialiser, you’ll welcome a Dogs for Good puppy into your home, teaching them the basics, giving them plenty of love, and preparing them for their important role ahead.  It’s rewarding and guaranteed to leave a lasting impact.

The role of the Puppy Socialiser is to ensure that the Charity’s puppy has a good foundation before it starts its training to become part of one of our services. As a Puppy Socialiser you will be required to take on a puppy and have them living in your home for 16-18 months. You must have the time and commitment and be physically able to provide basic obedience training, socialisation and appropriate exercise required for a young dog. To enable you to carry out this role, most equipment will be supplied by the Charity.

A bit about this role

At Cats Protection we passionately believe that neutering cats before they can breed is an essential part of cat ownership, and without neutering the UK’s cat population would quickly get out of control. Our neutering volunteers help spread positive neutering messages and make it easier for owners on low incomes to get their cats neutered. They help raise awareness of the benefits of neutering, promote our neutering schemes and respond to enquiries from members of the public.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Promoting the benefits of neutering and our neutering schemes
• Responding to enquiries about neutering
• Completing relevant neutering paperwork and distributing neutering vouchers
• Following up with cat owners to make sure that vouchers are used
• Ensuring all cats and kittens are neutered in line with Cats Protection policies and procedures

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. • photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

St John has embarked on a journey to ensure that every community and every young person across England will be first aid confident. A leader with a passion for local volunteering and helping communities is needed to inspire and support volunteers on this journey at the County and Community Level. 

We need someone with the ability to cultivate County relationships in order to shine a light on the positive impact our volunteers make in their local communities. We need someone who is committed to equity, inclusion and the fostering of a value-based leadership culture.

Ganddee is the UK's discovery platform connecting shoppers to local second-hand shops, car boot sales, flea markets and thrifting events - think 'google maps for thrifting'.

We're building the UK's biggest thrifting community. To that end, we're looking for volunteers who share our love for thrifting and circularity.

Living in London (or the UK) would be ideal for the role given that we're mostly active there so it'll be easier to write about the thrifty things happening in the city. However, if you live somewhere else and love what we do, we're happy to chat to see how you can join the team and help out!
