We need your support for a few hours over a three-week period to promote our pet food bank service at Pets at Home stores across the UK. This event is family friendly, and everyone, regardless of age, is invited to join in on the fun! If you are bringing children under 16, please ensure they remain under your supervision at all times.

Your support will help pets and their families in your community to stay together and get through the toughest of times.

The Diana Award are thrilled to invite you to volunteer for our Mentoring Programme and Social Action Accelerator Pilot this Autumn (2024), which operate across London, Leeds and West Yorkshire.

We collaborate with volunteer mentors to support young people aged 14-18 who are at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) through mentoring interventions, career skills development programmes, and support with their youth-led social action projects. 

WHO CAN VOLUNTEER AS A MENTOR? 

We welcome applicants across all industries and levels of experience. Through mentoring you will gain skills in communication and leadership, building empathy and understanding of issues and barriers facing young people in their communities.

OUR MENTORING PROGRAMMES  

Based on your application to mentor and your availability, you will be placed in either our Mentoring Programme or Social Action Accelerator Pilot. Both programmes run between October 2024 – February 2025. 

Mentoring Programme:  

• Twelve weeks of weekly group mentoring sessions. 

• Mentoring sessions last one hour (excluding travel) and are delivered on the same day and time each week. 

• Volunteer mentors share advice and guidance with young people who are at risk of becoming NEET. 

Social Action Accelerator Pilot: 

• Five months of monthly group mentoring sessions. 

• Mentoring sessions last two hours (excluding travel) and are delivered at the same time of day each month. 

• Volunteer mentors support young people to develop and deliver their youth-led social action project. 

We will train you to mentor and provide ongoing support for the duration of your programme. 

The Diana Award can provide you with a professional reference, paid for DBS check, and refund your travel expenses in exchange for your voluntary work. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Requirements 

• A minimum of 18-years-old.

• Willing to complete Right to Work and DBS Check (organised and paid for by The Diana Award).

• Willing to provide contact details for one referee.

• Able to commit to weekly and/or monthly face-to-face sessions. 

• Able to attend a three-hour in-person mentor training session.

• Has the right to work and volunteer in the UK.

• Lives or works in London, Leeds and West Yorkshire.

Skills 

• Passion for working with young people. 

• Has developed or willing to develop active listening skills. 

• Ability to see solutions and opportunities when working with people or in a group setting. 

• Ability to show resilience when faced with challenging situations or behaviours. 

Experience / Knowledge 

• Has work experience, this can be professional, from previous volunteering, or social action initiatives. 

• Has developed or willing to develop experience of picking, planning, and delivering a social action campaign. 

Optional Experience / Knowledge 

• Has experience in organising grassroots activism. 

• Has experience or knowledge in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). 

• Has experience or knowledge in Widening Participation. 

• Has experience in project management. 

Responsibilities

• Commit to weekly sessions for twelve weeks and/or to monthly session for five months, demonstrating consistency and punctuality. Mentoring Programme sessions last 60 to 90 minutes (excluding travel) and Social Action Accelerator Programme sessions last 120 minutes (excluding travel). Both programmes are delivered in an education setting. Follow through is key when working with young people at risk of becoming NEET. 

• Collaborate with The Diana Award facilitators and other volunteer mentors to deliver and support sessions. 

• Review session plans and prepare for weekly and/or monthly sessions. 

• Create a safe and positive learning environment and provide young people with encouragement, guidance, and constructive feedback. 

• Nurture positive relationships with young people. Listen, understand, and acknowledge their feelings and experiences. 

• Support young people to plan a social action project. 

• Foster a growth mindset and encourage young people to challenge themselves to work towards their goals. 

• Support young people’s professional development by connecting them with further opportunities. For example, workplace visits, work experience, resources, relevant networks etc. 

• Identify and report any safeguarding and child protection concerns or disclosures to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, as per The Diana Award Safeguarding Policy. 

OUR CHARITY 

The Diana Award is the charity legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change the world. We seek to empower young people, delivering bespoke youth programmes for children and young people aged 9 – 25. Our programmes seek to address three key problems for young people: challenges to their mental health and emotional wellbeing; social and economic barriers; and not being understood by people in power. Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity and our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs. Cats are at the centre of everything we do and our objectives are: homing, neutering and educating people about cats and their care. We help thousands of cats across the UK each year thanks to our network of dedicated volunteers, staff and supporters.

A bit about this role

Across the UK, many cats are cared for by volunteer fosterers who provide a stable, safe and loving environment in their homes or in purpose-built pens in their gardens. They provide vital hands-on care and accommodation to stray or abandoned cats or cats whose owners could sadly no longer keep them, and are part of a dedicated team of volunteers committed to finding new homes for cats in need. Our fosterers carry out this role with support from their local branch or centre.

Most of our fosterers care for one or two cats at a time and enjoy providing lots of TLC to those cats, who have been pre-loved or have had a difficult start in life. Some of our fosterers look after new mums and kittens and provide round-the-clock care to newborns to give them the best start in life.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Meeting the needs of the cats and kittens in your care
• Cleaning and looking after the cats’ environment and equipment
• Feeding, grooming and administering medication
• Spending time enriching the cats’ experience in care including; play, exercise and stroking

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend one and a half hours per day on average (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care. In order to help you feel confident in your fosterer role we ask that prior to looking after your first foster cat you complete some online cat welfare learning modules.

Support, guidance and keeping you safe

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

The wellbeing of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we come into contact with as part of our activities.

Been There is a charity in the form of an app that connects adults with a vetted and trained Mentor to support with their mental health relating to body image issues. We are looking for a lovely Safeguarding Lead to take the reigns.

What will you be doing?

As the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead at Been There to ensure the safety of our service users and volunteers. The role will be remote with the opportunity to meet up too (optional). 

As the DDSL, you will:

• Support the DSL and senior team in developing and establishing Been There's approach to safeguarding.
• Help to maintain and review Been There's plan for safeguarding.
• Help coordinate the distribution of policies, procedures and safeguarding resources throughout the charity.
• Support the DSL with training needs and development, providing training where appropriate.
• Provide safeguarding advice and support to staff and volunteers.
• Help the DSL with safeguarding concerns, allegations or incidents reported to your organisation.
• Support DSL with referrals to key safeguarding agencies (e.g. social services or police) of any incidents or allegations of abuse and harm.
• Help to build an effective safeguarding team

What are we looking for?

• Level 3 Safeguarding training
• At least 1 year of experience in a safeguarding role
• Experience of handling sensitive data
• Unerstands importance of maintaining confidentiality at all times
• Experience of providing training, guidance and support to others

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Surrey Young Farmers currently consists of 8 clubs (7 junior and 1 senior) who take part in a range of weekly term time activities such as go karting, countryside walks, farm visits, sports evenings, and craft evenings and we are looking for Assistant Club Leaders to join our Cranleigh, Merstham or Chobham Clubs.

By volunteering with us, you can help young people aged 10 – 17 years old build their confidence, have adventures, learn new skills and have loads of fun - no matter what your experience. All we ask you to bring is your enthusiasm, you don’t need to know anything about farming, or have even heard of us to get involved!

The position is unique as it allows you to bring your own skills, interests, experiences, and projects into the role, to really get stuck in, and to have a positive impact on the young people involved as well as the surrounding community. In the past clubs have been involved in fundraising and community events such as cake sales, barn dances and local litter picks.

The HR Assistant will be assisting in responding to candidates’ applications, updating Quilombo UK policies and documentation, induction of new members and organising interviews. The candidate should have organisational and communication skills, but further guidance will be given by other members if needed.  The HR assistant will be working closely with the HR Admin Assistants. The candidate will have further possibilities to develop their skill sets through tasks given.

The role provides you with flexibility and autonomy at work. Where necessary, specific training will also be provided to help you develop and grow your skill set

Main Responsibilities

•  Updating Quilombo UK policies and documentation
• Assisting in recruitment
• Assisting in interviewing new members
•  Assisting in induction of new members

General tasks

• Contribute to staff meetings and other internal meetings with views and suggestions etc.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Subsequently, you'll meet with your Head of Department or Assistant Manager for your First Day.
