Main Purpose of Job: 

As the Chair of ADC, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic leadership, governance oversight, and support to drive the organisation's mission forward. As a visionary leader with experience in both non-profit governance and start-up environments, the Chair will play a critical role in shaping the future direction of ADC and spearheading initiatives to maximise our impact across Africa.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic direction and guidance to the Board of Directors and the executive team, ensuring alignment with ADC's mission, vision, and values
   
• Hold ultimate accountability for the effective governance of ADC, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while upholding the highest standards of transparency and integrity
   
• Lead efforts to diversify and secure funding sources, including corporate partnerships, grants, and philanthropic support, to sustain and expand ADC's programs and operations
   
• Forge strategic partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, corporations, and other stakeholders to amplify ADC's reach and influence within the WASH sector
   
• Drive initiatives for Board recruitment, development, and succession planning, fostering a diverse and skilled leadership team capable of advancing ADC's strategic objectives
   
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and senior management team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence
   
• Serve as a passionate advocate and spokesperson for ADC, representing the organisation at public events, conferences, and media engagements to raise awareness and champion our cause
   
• Oversee the implementation of robust systems and processes to enhance organisational efficiency, performance monitoring, and impact measurement

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Expertise

• Experience in starting a new charity, non-profit, or other organisation
   
• Proven track record of serving on boards, ideally in leadership roles such as trustee or chairperson, with a comprehensive understanding of governance principles and best practices
   
• Proven experience in leadership roles within the non-profit sector and start-up environments, with a track record of driving organisational growth and impact
   
• Strong understanding of charity governance principles and best practices

We are looking for someone with significant direct experience in technology being used in a transformational way. This experience could come from an allied sector (e.g. education technology) or where they can contextualise experience gained in any industry.

They will act as a lead trustee on Speakers Trust’s continued digital transformation to advise and support the rest of the board and the CEO. This would involve continued use of technology to manage their programmes, as well as deploying technology including Artificial Intelligence directly to improve the current programmes and to launch new initiatives.

· Education

Secondly, we would like to hear from someone with knowledge, experience and a network in education leadership and/or policy. This trustee would be integral to helping the executive team navigate an evolving education environment to advocate for Speakers Trust’s work with policymakers and other stakeholders.

They will advise and support the rest of the Board and CEO on education policy and school strategy, as the political and operational climate for schools and the education sector changes.

Would you like to help tackle loneliness, one conversation at a time?

Loneliness and isolation can have devastating effects on a person’s mental and physical health. We are a registered charity providing a pathway of support to alleviate the hurt and distress, and the impact on mental and physical health, caused by loneliness and social isolation. 

The aim of face-to-face Individual Support is to provide in-person supportive social contact for people who are hurt by loneliness.

Volunteers support Friends (people who use our services) on a one-to-one basis. After completing training, volunteers will be linked with a Friend who they will meet out of the home (usually for a coffee or a walk) or if the Friend is unable to leave their home for physical or mental/emotional health reasons, they will visit them at home. This is arranged at a mutually convenient time and usually takes place around once every two weeks.

We ask volunteers to think of this as a longer term volunteer role due to the training and time we take in order to give our volunteers, and Friends, the very best service. You will also need to consider occasional time spent in training for your role and for continuous development. 

For all our roles:

Enhanced DBS checks for working with vulnerable adults (formerly called criminal records bureau checks)  which we will organise (no cost to this) and two references are required.

For any roles involving driving Archway Friends, we will need to see evidence of insurance and driving license as well as MOT and tax documents for the vehicle to be used.

We will happily cover out of pocket expenses (eg mileage or costs for coffee out with Archway Friend).

We provide training relevant to the roles as well as ongoing supervision, guidance and support for all volunteers.

Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone

The Medical Lead Statistician will play a pivotal role in advancing Mast Cell Action's research initiatives. This volunteer position involves designing and analysing clinical studies, interpreting data, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance our understanding of MCAS.

• Study Design and Methodology:
  • Collaborate with researchers to design robust clinical studies.
  • Develop and refine statistical methodologies to address research questions.

  • Analyse clinical and experimental data using advanced statistical techniques.

We are seeking a new Treasurer who can build on the already considerable work the charity has undertaken to assert the independence, skills and abilities of people who are too often marginalised and forgotten by their wider communities. You will have considerable experience in a finance and accounting role, as willingness to get to grips with the financial governance obligations of a charity and drive the charity financial sustainability in a measured and assured manner.
