We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Bury St Edmunds Group. As our Communications Volunteer you’ll make sure people know they have a local MS Society group to turn to.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your writing skills, and gain an experience of communicating across a range of digital channels. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

We are looking to recruit an Administration Volunteer for the Uckfield, Heathfield and Lewes Group. Our Administration Volunteers are the linchpin for our local groups’ activities. They act as the first point of contact and they make sure all relevant information is circulated to other volunteers and members. And they play an important role in keeping our data and details up to date to comply with data protection legislation.

In this role you’ll develop your administration and organisation skills. Most importantly you’ll be help your local group run efficiently, so they can keep providing valuable services to our MS community.

Our House Experience Volunteers add the sparkle to any visit – giving everyone a warm welcome, bringing stories from Ickworth to life and helping people get the best out of their day. 

 This role will suit you if you are:

• Warm and friendly.
• Someone with a curious and inquisitive nature, with an ability to engage our visitors, ask questions and facilitate conversations.
• Able to listen thoughtfully and actively.
• Someone with exceptional customer service standards- a desire to put visitors before everything else.

• Sensitive to visitor and volunteer needs – working as an effective team member.
• Willing to develop your knowledge of Ickworth, its history and vast collections.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Responding to the diverse needs of visitors, including people with additional access needs.
• Sharing inspirational stories, curious facts and practical information or simply the space for visitors to wander at their own pace.
• Helping visitors to discover more, answering questions and making suggestions so they can enjoy their day, their way.
• Being an ambassador for the whole property and the National Trust. Helping visitors understand the full scope of the offer at Ickworth beyond the house.
• Learning more about Ickworth, so you can share your knowledge and stories of the family and their collections with visitors.
• Responding to the changing needs of Ickworth – supporting ongoing interpretation strategies in the House.
• Supporting with health and safety and evacuation procedures if required.
• Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines

We would like you to get involved in brainstorming new ideas for social media content. You will regularly create, schedule and post compelling content for social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn). We would also appreciate the creation and maintenance of a our social media content calendar.

Every year, hundreds of people take part in sporting events to raise much needed funds for our work. Individuals spend countless hours training through snow, rain and sun to complete challenges that support our vital work. 

We aim to help these superstars throughout their training, by giving them a friendly phone call, and this is where you come in.

We know the power of a phone call and how it can help encourage people with their training, reminding them they are not alone and who they are doing it for. We’re looking for volunteers to join us on set days to call our MS Superstars. 

What the role involves: 

• Calling our sporting fundraisers and asking:
• How their training is going
• How their fundraising is going and do they need any advice
• Conveying our thanks 
• Updating an excel spreadsheet on a laptop
• What you need for this role 
• A good phone manner and etiquette 
• Friendly tone of voice and good listening skills
• Happy to read from a script and make notes on a laptop

We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Mid Sussex and District Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.

You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.

• Multi-tasking across the site to help us keep the property looking fabulous, reporting where something may need attention.
• Looking out for ways to do the little things that make a big difference. This might include driving visitors around on our Shuttle, or supporting in the bookshop.
• Helping visitors get their bearings and informing on the best routes around the property depending on their needs and our offer.
• Finding out what’s on offer at Ickworth and other local sites, so you can encourage people to do more, stay longe and bring others. Promote the National Trust and deepen their connection to our cause.
• Keeping in touch with the wider team, so you know what’s happening, particularly during event days.
• You are important in making sure things run as smoothly as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures.

As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community.
